It's the end of an era–Ariana Grande got a haircut. The pop singer said "Thank u, next" to her signature high ponytail, documenting the change with a fresh selfie on Instagram. Fans are shocked to see Grande's long hair go, but they're supportive of her change.
Grande shared her new shoulder-length light brown hair on her Instagram feed on Thursday, tucked behind one ear and topped with a floral bunny-face filter. She didn't acknowledge the short hair in her caption, but rather the filter itself. "This filter took my eyebrows away but I promise they’re there," she wrote.
The pop singer's long hair has been a part of her look since her musical debut. She was always known to wear a high ponytail that still reached her middle back in length. In August, Grande's hairstylist, Chris Appleton, explained that the height of the "Sweetener" singer's ponytail correlated to how she wanted to appear that day.
For example, a higher ponytail looks a bit more playful. But, when the ponytail is styled at the back or the bottom of her head, Grande appears more professional and serious. Grande was also known to add extensions to her hair for extra texture and length.
Grande's new cut isn't a total shock, as she has been experimenting with a few different looks recently. She was spotted a few times with her hair pin-straight and down , a rare appearance for the star. She also tried space buns with scrunchies during her Pete Davidson days (how did she get all that hair into those tiny buns?). She even sported a platinum blonde wig for the debut of her hit single, "Thank U, Next."
Although Grande has not commented on her new haircut or the reason for her change yet, she did reveal to Camila Cabello recently that the ponytail can be a bit painful. Grande has expressed before that the look causes her pain, but it was never really a complaint; she always confirmed that she willingly wore the ponytail despite the pain.
Overall, Grande's fans appreciate her bravery for such a big post-breakup change. Warm comments flooded the singer's Instagram post, telling her how great she looks either way.
