Anna Wintour shared what it was like the last time she met with Princess Diana before her tragic death in 1997, and the editor in chief remember it quite vividly. It was during an interview last Friday, at the Women in the World Summit in New York City, that Tina Brown asked Anna brought up the topic. Tina is the author of the book The Diana Chronicles, a biography of Diana, Princess of Wales, and she was also in attendance at the lunch at the Four Seasons when Anna Wintour and Diana met for the last time.
Anna explained how Lady Di had been impeccably dressed in a mint green Chanel suit, and that she had looked incredible. Anna also recalled how was told Diana had spent a long time deciding on what to wear for this particular luncheon, which is quite understandable. While Anna stressed how fantastic the late princess looked, Tina added that she had seemed terribly lonely. The two women also remembered how lovingly Diana had been speaking about her sons Prince William and Prince Harry, then fifteen and twelve years old.
As reported by ET Online, Anna Wintour remembered how Diana had explained that the British royal family was so uncomfortable with the media. Anna compared this to how inviting and in tune, Princess Diana herself had been with the press, and how she had been the first in the royal household to realize how they could benefit from having a good and open relationship with media.
Anna also spoke in defense of Prince Harry's wife, Meghan Markle, and praised her for bringing modernity into the royal family. Meghan walking down the aisle by herself is, according to Anna Wintour "representative of a modern woman". Anna dismissed the rumored complaints from the royal staff regarding Meghan texting a lot and waking up at five in the morning. She refers to Meghan as a "normal California girl who gets up early and does yoga and meditates", and said that communication via text messages should not be a surprise to anyone.
Anna Wintour is undoubtedly one of the most influential people in the industry, so it must mean a lot to Meghan to get her support. Princess Diana being the icon that she is, means that people will always find it fascinating to hear other people talk about how she was as a person.
