Actress Paige Billiot is promoting embracing your flaws and uniqueness. The 25-year-old knows first hand what it is like to be ashamed of being different, but she wants people to embrace their differences instead.

Billiot was born with a large, port-wine birthmark on her face forcing her to have to develop a strong self-esteem at a young age. She had to endure taunts and bullying from other kids her age when she was child. It is what caused her to be ashamed of being different, something she is now promoting others to embrace.

“With what the societal beauty standards were, it made me feel like it wasn’t ok to be different and that something was wrong with me. I would have done anything to be normal just like everyone else,” she told People magazine about how being bullied made her feel.

However, she was lucky enough to be born with a strong personality and a love of sports, which helped the actress gain confidence. It was after her confidence grew she realized her classmates teased her because they were ignorant about her birthmark. The next time her family moved, she decided to introduce herself at the new school in a way to help her classmates better understand her birthmark.

“I nervously walked to the front of everyone, I looked around, and I explained who I was and what my birthmark was. That’s when I noticed a huge difference in how others perceived me. I learned that ignorance usually comes from a place of the unknown. Once I actually accepted my birthmark I was finally able to start my journey in embracing it,” Billiot explained.

Now she is using her newfound fame to teach others to be confident and embrace their flaws like she did. Billiot started Flawless Affect to help others stop looking at their flaws as problems. She does it through photography and videos to highlight her and others’ “flaws” and makes them art.

“I’ve always wanted to be somewhat of a role model for anyone who had a flaw and saw it negatively. One of the biggest challenges I faced growing up was feeling alone. If I would have known that there were other people facing similar struggles as myself of not being normal it definitely would have helped me,” she revealed.

Actress Paige Billiot is being the person for so many other women and men that she did not have growing up, a person who embraces his or her flaws as opposed to looking at their flaws as problems. She is becoming a role model that many young kids will look up to. The world needs more people like Billiot.
