It has been just over three months since Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth got married in their Tennessee home. Being one of the most talked-about stars of the last few years, it’s no surprise that Cyrus attracts a lot of attention to anything she does, which of course includes becoming someone’s wife.

But even though this was one of the most highly anticipated weddings in Hollywood, hardly any details were revealed until after the big day was over. For two of the world’s biggest stars, Cyrus and Hemsworth had a surprisingly intimate wedding, worlds away from celebrity tradition.

With a relationship that has spanned almost a decade, and plenty of ups and downs to keep them occupied, Cyrus and Hemsworth have certainly learned a lot about each other, and a lot about love. While the newlyweds seem to be enjoying their privacy in the early days of their marriage, we have been able to gather some details about their new lives as husband and wife.

Having been brought closer by the California wildfires in 2018, this couple is now united by an unbreakable bond and are more in love than ever.

20 Hemsworth’s Parents Were Reluctant To Give Their Blessing

The approval of parents doesn’t mean a lot to everyone in the dating game these days, but it can also have the power to make or break a relationship. After Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth reunited in 2016, it was reported that their wedding was so delayed because members of the actor’s family were having their doubts about the pop star.

Because of Cyrus’s past unconventional behavior, Hemsworth’s parents and brother, actor Chris Hemsworth, weren’t sure that she would make the best wife for their son and brother. But whatever doubts there might have been, it looks like they’re all in the past!

19 There Was Also Resistance From Members Of The Cyrus Family

According to Screen Rant, the Hemsworths weren’t the only people in the equation who had concerns over Miley and Liam’s relationship. Some sources claim that Cyrus’s older brother Trace did not approve of Hemsworth and did not think he was the one for his sister.

But other sources have argued against this claim, stating that no inside sources ever confirmed the rumor. Without confirmation from more trustworthy sources, we’ll never really know if there was resistance from the Cyrus side or not. But again, if there was, it looks like it’s in the past now, as the wedding brought just about everyone together!

18 Cyrus Turned Her Life Around And Won Approval From Her Husband’s Family

If there was any truth to the claims that the Hemsworths had their doubts about Cyrus, she changed their minds by turning her life around. Around the time her Bangerz record was released and she performed (now infamously) at the VMAs in 2013 with Robin Thicke, Cyrus was determined to shed her Disney image and liberate herself.

This phase brought with it a lifestyle of carefree partying, which may have triggered the Hemsworths worrying about whether Cyrus was right for their son. But when she left this phase of her life behind and turned over a new leaf, they felt more confident in her compatibility with Liam.

17 Cyrus’s Sister-In-Law Has Her Back

Even if there was once animosity between Cyrus and members of Hemsworth’s family, the relationship between the two parties is now strong. According to Screen Rant, Elsa Pataky, who’s married to Chris Hemsworth, was reported to have “played a key role in winning over Hemsworth’s mother, Leonie Hemsworth.”

Pataky has praised Cyrus in public before, gushing about her in an interview at the L.A. premiere of 12 Strong in 2018. The actress said that she and her children, India Rose, Tristan, and Sasha, love the 'Malibu' singer. She also revealed that other members of the Hemsworth family have a soft spot for Cyrus because she’s creative and fun to be with.

16 Their Wedding Followed Cyrus Tradition

On December 23, 2018, two days before Christmas, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth wed in their five-bedroom house in Tennessee, which is located just down the road from her family. “Miley and Liam couldn’t be happier with how their wedding went,” an insider revealed to E! News. “A lavish ceremony wasn’t important, all that mattered was that their families could be there.”

Weddings at home in Tennessee are something of a Cyrus family tradition, since Miley’s parents, Tish and Billy Ray, tied the knot in the country music star’s Franklin home. Though they kept things simple, Cyrus and Hemsworth did opt for a balloon arch and lots of flowers to decorate the space!

15 But That Was A Last-Minute Change

It’s poetic that Cyrus wed the love of her life in her Tennessee home, the way her parents did just over 24 years before her. But according to The List, the decision to get hitched in Tennessee was very last minute.

Cyrus and Hemsworth actually share a home in Malibu, California, and were originally planning to have the ceremony there. But the wildfires that took place in California in 2018 prevented that from happening. It looks like perhaps the universe wanted them to become man and wife in Tennessee, which is where they’ve been living since the fire took their CA home.

14 And Was A Total Surprise To Fans

It was no surprise that Cyrus and Hemsworth were engaged, but fans had no idea that their wedding was going to take place in December. This is mostly because the couple chose not to give away any information leading up to the big day. And the previous year, in 2017, the pop star actually gave an interview implying she was in no hurry to tie the knot.

“I don’t envision marriage. I’m 24. I hope I get to live a little bit more,” she told The Sun (via The List). An insider who spoke with Entertainment Tonight just before the wedding confirmed that the couple “talk about a wedding and kids all the time, but they are in no rush.” Hm!

13 It Took Them 10 Years To Get To This Point

Cyrus and Hemsworth got married very soon after an inside source revealed that they were in no hurry, but when you consider how long it took them to get to the point of marriage, it’s clear that they really weren’t in a hurry and didn’t want to rush anything. These two first met in 2009 on the set of the romance film The Last Song. They dated for a while and then split, and then confirmed that they were back together in 2010.

The engagement came in 2012, but was called off the following year. For three years, Cyrus and Hemsworth embarked on their own journeys, which included dating other people, but ultimately came back together in 2016, nearly three years before finally getting married.

12 Cyrus Wore A Dress By Vivienne Westwood

Fans didn’t know what to expect when it came to the wedding dress. Cyrus has rocked such diverse styles over the years, from pieces influenced by her country roots to eccentric outfits that make headlines, and now she’s a little unpredictable.

But fans were pleasantly surprised when photos emerged on social media of the pop star in a floor-length gown by Vivienne Westworth. The off-the-shoulder ivory dress comes from Westwood’s made-to-order collection and, according to The List, can be bought for $8,600 USD. Cyrus also straightened her blonde locks for the ceremony and looked like she was born to be a bride.

11 There Certainly Was A Party After The Nuptials

The wedding may have taken place at home rather than in some romantic faraway location, but that doesn’t mean there wasn’t a party afterwards! Footage from the festivities found its way to social media and proved that this couple knows how to party.

Only close friends and family were in attendance, which is just what Cyrus and Hemsworth wanted. A video on Twitter showed Cyrus having the time of her life while dancing to ‘Uptown Funk’ by Bruno Mars and a surprise feature from the groom. Earlier in the evening, Hemsworth was shown to be having a few celebratory drinks with his father and brother.

10 Their Honeymoon Was A Group Event

The exact details of the honeymoon that followed the wedding haven’t been released, but some sources have claimed that the couple went on a honeymoon in Montana, along with Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky and their three children. It has also been said that Cyrus’s hairstylist, Aleksey Bishop, joined in on the fun too.

Pictures emerged online from the group trip, which may or may not have been a honeymoon for Cyrus and Hemsworth. Though Cyrus’s face is not shown in any of the pictures, one photo posted by Bishop shows a woman from behind whose hair is strikingly similar to Cyrus’s.

9 Kids Will Probably Come In The Future

Only a few months into their marriage, it probably seems too early to start talking about kids. But one source who spoke with E! News revealed that the couple have already spoken about adding to their family! “Liam and Miley both want kids, but that is not the current focus,” the insider revealed.

With Hemsworth so close to his brothers, and Cyrus so close to her siblings, it’s no wonder that these two are keen to expand their family and bring babies into the world. It still might be a while before we hear the patter of little feet in their home, but it’s a strong possibility for the future!

8 They Rekindled Their Romance In Malibu

After taking a three-year break from their romance, Cyrus and Hemsworth rekindled things in 2016, and it seems that Malibu, California, played a huge role in bringing them back together. The two retreated to the famous city by the ocean, where they fell back in love with each other and decided to give things another shot.

Malibu provided such a perfect romantic setting for them that Cyrus even dedicated a song to the location on her 2017 record Younger Now. “But here I am,” she sings on the track. “Next to you/The sky is more blue/In Malibu/ Next to you/In Malibu.”

7 And Real Flames Strengthened Their Bond

Sometimes, good things can emerge from the most negative events. In 2018, the four-bedroom mansion that Cyrus and Hemsworth shared in Malibu fell prey to the California wildfires and burned down. A friend revealed to People that, although the fire was challenging to get through, it actually “deepened their bond” and brought them closer together.

On the Howard Stern Show, Cyrus herself confessed that Hemsworth was a true hero in the face of the fires, which made her fall more deeply in love with him. “He was so incredible, he got all the animals out in his truck,” she said. “He put two pigs in crates, which I tell you is so hard.”

6 They Think Of Each Other As Survival Partners

A lot of couples have pet names for each other that don’t really make much sense to anyone outside the relationship. Cyrus and Hemsworth refer to each other as “survival partners,” which we love! “[He’s] my partner,” the singer told Howard Stern, only weeks before she married Hemsworth. “I call him my survival partner now.”

We’re guessing that the fires probably had a lot to do with this nickname, since they proved that they really can help each other fight the odds in the face of real challenges. They’ve been through a lot together over the past decade, so it’s easy to see why they now think of each other as partners.

5 Marriage Hasn’t Changed Their Relationship

Some couples worry whether tying the knot is going to change their relationship. There are even those who avoid marriage because they believe it’s going to put unnecessary pressure on them as a couple. But according to Cyrus, being married hasn’t changed their relationship at all.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, she confirmed that being Hemsworth’s wife feels “zero percent different” from being his girlfriend. “I would say that losing the house changed us much more than getting married changed us.” She also revealed that she got married because she wanted to, not because she felt pressured to: “We’ve worn rings forever, and I definitely didn’t need it in any way.”

4 Marriage Hasn’t Changed Cyrus As An Individual

Not only has marriage not changed things between Cyrus and Hemsworth, but it also hasn’t changed Cyrus as a person. In other words, she doesn’t feel like she has a whole new identity just because she’s someone’s wife now. “My relationship is very special to me, it is my home,” she said (via Elle). “I feel less misplaced when we are in the same room, no matter where that is, but just because something changes in my relationship doesn’t mean something has to drastically change in my individuality.”

Cyrus added in her Vanity Fair interview that she wore a traditional dress because she felt like it, not because she’s suddenly adopting a new clean-cut image.

3 Hemsworth Is Loving Being Married To Cyrus

Cyrus isn’t afraid to gush about her husband in interviews, and it looks like Hemsworth is also prepared to reveal how much he loves his new wife and loves being married to her. In January 2019, while the actor was on the red carpet for the Annual G’Day USA Gala, he opened up about married life.

“It’s the best. It’s the best,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “I feel so lucky to be with someone like her. It’s great. Very lucky.” Later in the night, as Hemsworth was accepting an Excellence in Film award, he made sure to thank Cyrus, calling her his “sweet, sweet angel.”

2 They Feel Stronger Together Than As Individuals

In her interview with Vanity Fair, Cyrus also got real about how she feels stronger when she’s with Hemsworth than when she’s alone, even though being married hasn’t changed who she is as an individual.

“… a lot of people use marriage I think maybe for a curse,” she said. “But like my favorite woman in the world, Hillary Clinton, says: We’re stronger together. That’ll make me get emotional. That’s what she meant by it. Like, who [cares] if he’s a guy, if I’m a girl, or if he was a woman … We really are stronger together. One is the loneliest number.”

1 They Wear Coordinating Outfits Now

At least one thing has changed since Cyrus and Hemsworth tied the knot last December: it looks like they’re more open to wearing matching outfits now! The newly married couple turned up in matching suits to the Women’s Cancer Research Fund charity gala, and fans are losing it.

The suits weren’t exactly the same: Cyrus’s suit was by Tom Ford with a pink silk lapel and side-stripe trousers, while Hemsworth’s was a simple grey suit. But this is one of the only times we’ve seen them in coordinating outfits, and we totally hope it becomes a new and super fashionable tradition!
