Poor redheads! So many people want to copy their fiery flaming style, but no one wants to actually BE a redhead. As far as we know, they still get the short end of the stick. Other kids making fun of their hair, joking about gingers having no souls, and never really getting over the fact that Anne of Green Gables is always and forever the only well-known redheaded character. The world has taken pity on them though, and luckily we’ve found 7 things exclusive to redheads that might make you jealous… But don’t worry. Blondes have more fun anyway, right? Read on and find out! On top of the 7 things exclusive to redheads, we’ve also included 10 things just for blondes. Sorry, brunettes. You’ll get your time in the sun eventually, but for now we need to give some love over to our redhead and blonde friends.
17. Strand Out
Blondies of the world, finally you can bond over something other than jokes about your intelligence! Blonde hair is interesting, especially naturally blonde hair. It looks so fine and delicate, but is usually quite thick and strong. Plus, the way the light shines on it makes it look more full than it often actually is. And why? There’s definitely a real reason behind it. This isn’t just the fact that blondes have all their special hair products that keep it looking full and rich. No, actually, blondes have been proven to have more strands than other hair colors. The blonde headed bodies of the world might not have thicker hair, but they do have more of it! Maybe that’s how they get that luxuriousness so thick and rich. It’s not the products, it’s the whole head!
16. Blonde Ambition
It’s said that blondes have more fun, but it’s hard to know that for sure. We’re skeptical, to be honest, as we’ve definitely met blondes that are all business all the time. There’s only so much fun one person can have. Eventually a blonde has to get down to work and show everyone who’s boss. This is true in the creative world, in the professional industry, and everywhere else where there’s the opportunity for career advancement. In fact, the statistics don’t lie. Blondes have more fun is maybe a bit of a lie when we look at the level of blondes in positions of CEO powership. While white people in the US pull up the rear with 5% of them having naturally blonde hair, 48% of female CEOs in the US have blonde hair. That’s wild! Not to mention how 35% of female senators in the US are blonde. Now that’s the sign that blondes definitely have a hard working side.
15. Festival Magic
But only for the redheads in the world! Yes, it’s true. It’s like Shambala, but with less music and only for redheads. Maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration. The redheads we know are all eager to go still though, as it takes place in a beautiful place. You’ve missed it this year, but if you’re looking for somewhere to go next September, book your flight early and head over to Breda, a Dutch town. The first weekend of September consists of the biggest gathering of all the natural redheads in the world. For more than ten years now it’s been going on. The fact that it doesn’t distinguish between shades, ethnicities, or anything else is awesome. It’s just a good old celebration of the red glow emanating off of people’s heads. We want to check it out just to see– young, old, and everything in between must be incredible to see!
14. Centerfold Stars
If the festival isn’t enough to get your fill of redheads in, you should try checking out this incredible magazine. MC1R is the name of the magazine, which is also the gene that causes redheads to grow that incredible flaming red color. While you might not have been able to guess that, we bet you can guess what the topic of the magazine is. Yes, it’s all about redheads. This isn’t just a visual thing though. MC1R is all about the culture of redheads. Not just their looks, but also their experiences growing up, the careers they’ve forged, different products that help your hair shine the brightest, as well as some interesting artistic projects that have been created around the idea of redheads. There’s also editorial pieces to give non-redheads an idea of what it’s like to live in this world with such a brilliant color drawing attention. And the best part? As far as we know, this is one of the only magazines like it in the world!
13. Saving Mad Moolah
Even though it shouldn’t get you anything, your hair definitely can be an asset. It can find you love, it can be something that gets you work, it can be a means to express yourself. Some people spend tons of money on their hair, especially people who are trying to go blonde. Luckily, if you’re a redhead, you don’t have to spend all that much money on your luscious locks. Your hair can actually SAVE you money, believe it or not. There’s a restaurant in Prestatyn, which is in the United Kingdom, called Ginger’s Grill. And no, it doesn’t feature ginger-flavored everything. Tripadvisor rates it as 3.5 stars, but it gets a five star review from all the gingers out there. Why? This is the only place in the world that offers you 20% off for having red hair. The owner is a natural ginger, and his thinking is that it’s time to give them redheads a break. Which is great for all you poor, broke redheaded students out there!
12. Icons on Icons
Blondes have SO MANY people to look up to. Blondes have basically taken over the media and have always been seen on the silver screens. They’re sexy symbols of the world, which means there’s tons of people to look up to. Marilyn Monroe, one of the biggest symbols of the world, one of the most well-known actresses of all time, is still making money. She’s still being put on mugs, dresses, postcards, buildings, and literally everything else. Blonde people are never without someone to look up to, and are never without an icon to see if the haircut is going to suite them or not. Everyone from Hulk Hogan to Marilyn Monroe can be icons for people. Even non-natural blondes, like Lady Gaga, have lots of people looking up to them. Gwen Stefani, Pink, and lots of other powerful women have also taken on the blonde. There’s definitely no shortage out there.
11. Fountain of Youth
Grey hair is one of the most telling factors of a person’s age. Those who have grey hair are usually inclined to dye it, especially when they start with a darker base. Many men like to keep it, as they think it adds distinguishment. Many, that is, except the blondies out there. Why? Blonde hair often actually doesn’t go grey to the same degree that other hair colors do. And even if it does, it’s hard to notice. The hair color is light enough that it tends to retain pigment. And because there’s such a variety of blondes, and such depth of color to the blonde, grey actually isn’t an issue. You can’t see it! This is where the brunettes get the short end of the stick, and the blondies prevail. Not to mention how blonde is a youthful color; many kids get born with blonde hair and let it change as they get older. Thus, we associate blonde with childhood energy. No wonder so many people try to dye it!
10. An Artist’s Daydream
Redheads have been featured in stories, paintings, films, and myths for ages. But what about now? Have their been any stories about the great myth of redheads yet? While there’s some novels that do feed the great myth of redheaded beauties, often times nowadays we hear about kids getting bullied over their hair. Or at least, that was the way it was before the climate started changing. Kids now have a whole book to flip through of beautiful redheaded portraits; all sizes, all races, and all different body types. The artist acquired these portraits from 20 countries around the world, and put all the portraits into a published book. The book is called Redhead Beauty (big surprise, huh?) and it shows just how beautiful redheads can be. All the gold-hearted redheads can rest assured as well: the proceeds of sales went towards anti-bullying efforts.
9. Shaving Grace
Yes, it was just a matter of time before this tip came up. Blonde hair is light, and is often quite fine as well. This means that blonde haired individuals can skip shaving longer. The hair is light and fine, so leg hair and armpit hair (as well as any other hair) is usually not as noticeable as coarse, dark, thick hair. Growing back the shaved hair is also going to be less of an issue. Blonde haired people usually don’t get the same sort of prickly, pin-poked look of dark hair. We think that that’s great, if you decide to shave or if you don’t decide to shave. Unfortunately, this is a double-edged sword. While it’s great for all the ladies out there (shavers or savers), the guys tend to have it rough. Blonde haired men have a difficult time growing beards, especially visible beards. However, they look totally cute when they do manage to get it going.
8. Naturally Brilliant
No, we’re not talking about intelligence. Unfortunately people are quick to draw upon the stereotype of the dumb blonde. While there’s probably one or two of them out there that make this true and perpetuate the idea, there’s a different type of brilliance that we’re talking about here. Summer is one of the most popular seasons; it’s something about the long days and warm nights or maybe the fact that we can spend all day in the sun. Either way, it’s a beautiful time with some great benefits… If you’re a blonde, that is! Blondes get the benefit of natural highlights. They get to sit in the sun and experience the joy of not needing to go to the hairdresser to lighten their locks. While it’s not set across the board, most blondes (especially the really light blondes) get the benefit of sun streaks in their hair after spending hours in the sun. We’re certainly jealous!
7. True Love (Red Hearts and All)
Yet another special redhead thing. It sounds like there’s no shortage of people who love redheads, but it’s actually the opposite. Many people, especially redheads, have trouble with finding people who really love them for who they are. Redheads are portrayed as super sexy and there are sites out there devoted to the worship of redheads. Luckily, there’s also a site out there that’s preserving the integrity of these beautiful bright red souls. The dating site is called Redhead Dates, and is marketed specifically for those who have red hair (or who love red hair). It’s the best way to find someone who can keep that special gene alive, or who can understand the bullying that came with growing up as a redhead. And don’t worry; as far as we can tell, it’s not just for those natural redheads. It’s anyone who identifies as such!
6. The Whole Rainbow
This is something that redheads definitely don’t get a leg up on. The benefits to being blonde are many, but none is as great as the fact that blondes get to wear whatever color they’d like. Red, pink, black, green, even light yellow looks good on blondes. While it does depend on the shade of blonde and their skin tone, on the whole, blondes are said to be able to wear every color. It’s so great, and probably why we’ve seen so many models and superstars go blonde. Unfortunately for those that have dyed their hair, the benefit may not be as clear. Natural blondes usually come with a complexion that allows for the color coordination to happen naturally. Dyed blondes will still get the washed out look common in a lot of folks who try to wear white, yellow or other tricky colors.
5. The Whole OTHER Rainbow
Okay, Instagram Queens. We get it. You like your hair. You like your self-expression as well. There’s been a recent upswing in popularity over the last few years of the pastel hair trend. Pale blues, periwinkles, dusty rose, and lavender all feed into the beautiful lightly dyed hair trend. While dark haired folks have to wait for two or three processes before they can get to their pastel dye phase, you blondes are lucky. You get to skip the first three steps and just jump right in to having beautifully lightened hair. Oftentimes those with blonde hair will dye it or will dye parts of it. This usually fades into the much-admired “pastel” trend, or can easily be washed or toned out. Your Instagram pages reap the benefits of this without a doubt. Blondes look good in almost every photo, no matter what their hair color is. And because of this ease of dye-ability, you’re more likely to change your hair and post mad hot pics. Watch those followers come rolling in; if you’re blonde you never have to worry.
This isn’t a benefit to being blonde, but it is something that only blondes have to deal with. It’s ridiculous just how many resources there are out there for people who want to be blonde. It seems like the more we look at changing a hair color, the more the world pushes us to be bold and beautifully blonde. Why? Well, besides the fact that blonde is the most common color to ombre or highlight with, blonde is a popular color. You’ve read benefit upon benefit of being blonde, and it’s no surprise that everyone and their mother is trying to hold on to it or flat-out achieve it. If you want to join those luxurious blonde ranks, you can walk into literally any salon and they’ll be able to do it. Plus, blonde coloring tends to stay in hair longer than red. The next time you’re looking for a change, consider the color that everyone seems to want: bodacious blonde.
3. But Remember…
Blondes are beautiful, but so are redheads. While the redheaded folk seem to have more tangible benefits in the world, classically they’ve been represented as weird, dorky, and all together undesirable. Blondes have felt no such thing. There’s no need to have a festival celebrating redheads, as they’re already celebrated in every other aspect of our world. Blondes are well loved. Luckily that love is starting to spread to other hair colors. Redheads are now seen as sexy, quirky, and smart. They’re mysterious and silly and fiery and raw, which is a great balance to blondes: cool, calm, fun-loving, peppy, and reminiscent of the summer sun. No matter what you prefer, no matter where you fall on the strawberry blonde spectrum, rest assured that redheads and blondes are both equally as good.
2. Metal Bands
Red’s the color of blood, and blood is pretty metal, so it makes sense that redheads would be more metal than everyone else, right? Well, maybe not. Some redheads are very sweet and prefer the soft rock/synth pop trend. Some redheads don’t want anything to do with music at all, which we find hard to believe. Whether you like it or not though, there is a metal band out there that’s made up entirely of red heads, who write songs about being a redhead. They’re called Bloodnut, as you might expect from a bright-red band, and yes, they have released an album or two. It’s more music than comedy, which makes them more popular than you might have expected. Besides, don’t we love looking at those attractive red-headed boys? Don’t deny it… Everyone has a bit of a soft spot for the redheads. That’s why they’ve gone so far as to create…
1. A Whole Calendar of Redheaded Men
YES! Finally, a calendar we’re willing to spend money on. You might think it’s strange to own a wall calendar when our electronic devices are so much more efficient. Some people like to keep track of things on the wall though, presented for anyone who wants to see. Many families have family calendars so they all know who’s doing what, when. This calendar isn’t exactly family friendly though. It’s called the Sexy Naked Redheaded Men Calendar and all the proceeds go towards various anti-bullying campaigns. The project was founded by a group of men who wanted to make a difference in the world. Those men were all (coincidentally or not) redheads, who were way too hot for their own good. What a gift to the world. Finally, we’re able to stare with no shame at the attractive men. It’s a good life.
