Sure, Chris Hemsworth might have played some great roles in some of the biggest blockbusters that Hollywood has ever seen, but when it comes to his personal life, there’s one role that he takes very seriously: his role as a father.
The Hollywood hunk and his wife Elsa Pataky have three children: their daughter India Rose and their twins, Tristan and Sasha. Whenever he’s not in Los Angeles or filming somewhere on location, he’s back at home in Australia living the good life with his family. And by that, we mean that simple, laid-back kind of lifestyle that would expect from a man that was born and bred Down Under.
Chris has always said that he wants to give his kids the same kind of happy childhood he has while he was growing up with the Hemsworth brothers. That’s why he and Elsa made the decision to move to Australia even though they both film in Hollywood. And while Chris has done everything he can to protect his family from the limelight, he still likes to give us behind-the-scenes pics of his life as a dad. Here are 20 times that his fans couldn’t help but swoon seeing him in dad mode!
If you grew up in Australia, spent some time in Australia, or have friends that come from Australia, there’s a good chance that you know just how important beach life is to them. It doesn’t matter where you visit Down Under, the beaches are always packed! That’s why there’s a very good chance that on any given Sunday you can perhaps see or bump into Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky with their kids at the beach. Not only do they like to enjoy the best of what Mother Nature has to offer, but all of the Hemsworth kids have picked up surfing, too.
Working on one continent and raising your children on another is not easy, but Chris and Elsa make it work. Chris has made it pretty clear that the Hollywood lifestyle simply doesn’t interest him. He’s always wanted to give his children the same, normal childhood he had while growing up. That’s why they made the difficult decision to leave Los Angeles and settle Down Under instead. Even though they have their family members close by, Chris and Elsa often have to travel for work, which makes it hard on their day-to-day life, especially when they are filming projects weeks at a time.
Chris Hemsworth might be one of the biggest stars in the entertainment industry thanks to his role as Thor and his performance in the Avengers movies, but he doesn’t live the same kind of fast-paced Hollywood life as his co-stars. The expensive cars, big mansions, and the pulsating nightlife was never for Chris. Instead, he wants to live a life that is as quiet and as authentic as possible. Chris and Elsa might not always agree on what they both want, but they’ve learned to compromise. Plus, they’ve made it clear that their family’s priorities always come first. So far it’s working for them.
But let’s face it: any Hollywood star who says that they want to live a normal life but still likes to cash in their multi-million dollar paychecks really aren’t telling the truth, right? As much as we love Chris Hemsworth for being a stand-up (but totally down to earth) kind of guy, the moment he became a household name his life has never been the same. He might have a long commute like some of us out there, but at least that commute is first-class on his trips from Sydney to Los Angeles and back home again. But who are we kidding? Chris deserves it.
A lot of people might not know this about him, but Chris Hemsworth is actually a very hands-on father at home. As a matter of fact, the box office hero likes to make his children’s school lunches whenever he’s at home with him! Elsa Pataky recently shared a social media story of the Hollywood hunk making sushi rolls for his kids’ lunches. He also likes to make healthy meals for the family at home. In other words, Chris loves the kitchen as much as we love him. A man with a heart, skills and hunky biceps? Elsa, don’t let go!
If you haven’t already noticed, Chris Hemsworth, Elsa Pataky, and their children are always spending their time outdoors. But that shouldn’t surprise anyone, right? Seeing how they love hiking, going to the park, or simply spending quality time together outside and as a family, the Hemsworths are always exploring. But then again, if we lived Down Under all year round, we would probably take advantage of the incredible weather they get to have every day. Lucky parents and lucky kids! Chris Hemsworth and his beautiful wife Elsa are giving their kids the kind of upbringing that other people can only dream of.
Chris doesn’t only make his children’s school lunches at home, but he also likes to volunteer at his kids’ school too. While a lot of people might assume that it’s a mom’s job to put in the volunteer hours at their kids’ elementary school, it’s Chris Hemsworth who does it for his family. He might be super busy, but the actor (both at work and at home) wouldn’t have it any other way. Chris said, “I’m busier than I’ve ever been, but you can go through the lists of people who are bang up there one minute, and then just disappear.”
Sure, Chris Hemsworth is already a very handsome specimen and there are very few people in this world that would challenge that claim. But whenever he is in dad mode, the hotness factor is through the roof! Yes, being a dad sure as heck makes Chris even more attractive to his fans. And if there is one person who noticed it before the rest of us, it’s his wife, Elsa. She loved seeing him with kids before they had their own. “He was a very mature person for his age,” recalls Pataky. “I could totally feel that he loved kids. And it's something that just melts you, as a woman.”
Don’t be fooled, folks. As much as Chris says that he would love to one day retire early and just retreat to his ‘normal’ home somewhere next to the beach by Byron Bay, the man is not ready to leave the industry yet. He’s at the top of his game! Thankfully, Chris also loves the work that he does and wakes up every morning feeling good about working on his set. Chris has said, “I enjoy working on a movie that lets your imagination run wild, it’s great to be a part of and watch. As a kid, you run around the house pretending to be a superhero, and now to be doing it as a job, I feel very lucky.”
Does Elsa Pataky like all of the attention that her husband Chris Hemsworth gets from his adoring female fans? By now, you would think that she would be used to it, right? After all, Chris is one of the biggest stars on the planet and everywhere he goes, he sure as heck gets recognized. That’s probably why whenever they are posing on the red carpet together, Elsa always makes sure to keep her hands on her man. Hey, we are not judging. We would probably do the same! Back off ladies, because Elsa is here to let you know he is taken!
At first, Elsa Pataky says that she wasn’t very open to the idea of relocating to Australia. After all, most of her family and friends are back in her native Spain. Also, her work is in either Europe and Los Angeles. Thankfully though, the Hemsworth family has been very accommodating. Chris is even someone who loves being around his kids and all of his nieces and nephews, too. They always have big family gatherings during the holidays throughout the year. Chris said, “My daughter and my nieces paint everybody’s nails, so I actually had my nails painted as well around Christmas time.”
In case you are wondering (and we are sure that a lot of people are): moving back to Los Angeles is simply not in the cards for the Hemsworth family. While Chris was very hungry for fame during his early years, he’s not very keen on being a stereotypical actor who can only fit certain roles. “I came into Hollywood thinking I had to be Russell Crowe. I loved his performances, and because of my physicality and my size, that was the obvious choice. I think I was aware that it could kind of get me in the door,” Hemsworth told GQ in an interview. “But it wasn't me.”
Now, living in Los Angeles wasn’t all that bad for Chris and Elsa (with the exception of the photographers at every corner, of course). They had their good days and they had their bad days, but no matter how hard he tried, he just didn’t feel like it was home.
Chris told CN Traveler, “There were parts of Los Angeles-living that I loved – but me and my wife just felt it was right for the family that we moved back to Australia. The locals in Byron treat us just like locals. It’s more relaxed than Los Angeles, less intense, and just more conducive to raising our three children.”
Just like millions of his fans from all over the world, Chris’s sons idolize their father. They want to grow up to be just like him and learn how to surf! It’s a good place that they live in Australia, right? Chris told CN Traveler, “The beaches I grew up on – not just for the surfing but for the exploring as well. We are so spoilt in Australia but my favorite beach might have to be Cape Woolamai on Victoria’s Phillip Island for the surfing. And Julian Rocks in Byron Bay for diving, as the sea life is just incredible.”
Chris is so dedicated to his family that he would move mountains for his children. Just like so many other fathers out there, there’s nothing that he wouldn’t do for his wife Elsa and their three children. However, he does admit that there are challenges to being a husband and a father. Chris told Bang Showbiz, “It’s much more difficult than you think it’s going to be. You have to change your thinking and be completely there for them. They have also taught me what real love is and what true responsibility means. Your life becomes more focused and you don’t have time to get distracted by unimportant things anymore. You become a lot less selfish.”
If there is one thing that is a huge priority in the Hemsworth family, it’s that everyone is both healthy and happy. And yes, physically fit! Chirs and Elsa both like to work out together and from what we can tell, their workouts in the gym are intense. Sure, Elsa is best known for her Hollywood work, but she’s also a huge fitness fanatic and health advocate on social media, too. ‘Family time’ and ‘gym time’ might as well mean that same thing for them, seeing how they spend so much of it pumping iron and sweating those calories. Are we jealous? You can bet we are jealous.
The great thing about Chris Hemsworth is that he’s the kind of person that thinks before he speaks. You don’t meet a lot of men that actually do that these days, right? Well, we always knew that Chris was one-of-a-kind. He is also very particular about the things he says and the way he acts in front of his children. That’s because he knows that they are watching him all the time. He wants to make sure that he’s always a good role model to them. According to Brainy Quotes, Chris said, “As kids, our experiences shape our opinions of ourselves and the world around us, and that’s who we become as adults.”
If there is one thing that will never change in Chris Hemsworth’s life, it’s that his family will always be his top priority. As far as his position in Hollywood, he can always find a film to work on. But when it comes to his wife and kids, his time is precious. Speaking about a typical day with his family, Chris told CN Traveler, “Growing up near the beach is such an amazing opportunity for the kids, and I want to make the most of it. Then we would head to the farm, which is such an amazing community concept: you can interact with the animals and eat some fresh produce. In the evening, we would barbecue fresh fish that we’d caught ourselves that afternoon.”
While Chris knows that being on social media is part of being a huge celebrity in the entertainment industry, he’s very careful about revealing what the fans want to see, but not revealing too much. After all, he has to protect his children. Plus, he doesn’t want people thinking that he is anything like the characters people see on the big screen. “The more they know about you, the harder it is for people to believe your character,” he remembers the publicist telling him. “They want to believe the fantasy that that could be them on the screen in that situation, doing whatever.”
As far as Chris and Elsa and their future plans, no one really knows what’s in their future. Hopefully, whatever they do, they will always do it together. Chris said (via Bang ShowBiz): “When I was younger, I dreamed about having this kind of life and that’s exactly what I’m living now. I am more mindful of leaving enough time between projects to be at home with my wife and our children. I am very conscious of my responsibilities as a father and I love my wife and children more than I can possibly describe.”
Awww! Don’t you just love him even more?
