Have you ever heard of Sarah Hyland? Well, you should have, and if you don't know who she is, then you're probably living under a rock! If you're a fan of the hit ABC sitcom Modern Family, then you're probably crushing hard on the adorable, and all-around talented Sarah Hyland. On the show, Sarah plays Haley, the eldest daughter of the Dunphy household. The character often comes off as totally scatterbrained, at least when you compare her to her on-screen smarty pants sister, Alex, played by actress Ariel Winter.
Haley Dunphy is also known for having some serious issues with her love life. Remember her on-again, off-again boyfriend, Dylan? Ugh! He just as dopey as he was cute! To most viewers though, Haley comes off as insensitive to the needs of her family, particularly, her siblings, Alex and Luke. But she has proven that she has a big heart...she just doesn't like to advertise it. However, the New York City-born actress who plays Hailey is all heart, brains, and talent. Aside from Modern Family, she has appeared on Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments, The Lion Guard, Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja, and a bunch of other movie and film credits that date back to 1997. Seriously, the girl is unstoppable! But there are quite a few interesting fun facts about Sarah Hyland that you probably didn't know.

Sarah has been dealing with kidney dysplasia for a long time.

For a time, it seemed like Hyland was in a great relationship with Matt Prokop, a native Texan who moved to LA to pursue acting. Prokop has appeared on hit sitcoms like The Office and even played Jimmie Zara in High School Musical 3: Senior Year. For a while, the two seemed inseparable. But Prokop became extremely pushy, so Hyland called it off.
Things got so complicated between them that Hyland had to reach out to Julie Bowen, her on-screen mom who actually told her to get out of her house. Hyland also took out a temporary restraining order against Prokop. Thankfully, Hyland bounced back and seems to be totally in control of her life now.

People started criticizing Sarah, claiming she looked “way too skinny.” But this was back in 2012 when her condition with kidney dysplasia wasn't going well, as she had spent several months on bed rest.

It's safe to say that everyone in this family is getting some TLC! Carl is so adorable that he even has his own Instagram page, @carlthebloodhound. In one post, Adams had this to say about Carl: "You're my favorite thing in the world." Clearly, there's something special about this pooch!

When InStyle spoke to Hyland about her similarities to Kunis, she confessed that she gets confused for Kunis all the time. Apparently, Kunis has the same issue. Back in 2010, during a Nylon party, Hyland shared her first encounter with Kunis: "She came up to me and said she gets called me all the time too. She said that sometimes she pretends she's me because it makes her feel young. I asked if I could pretend to be her next time somebody asks me if I'm her, and she said OK." Okay, that is seriously cute!

You would think that an actress would love taking acting classes because you can learn to improve your presence in front of the cameras or on stage. But it turns out that Sarah Hyland is not a big fan at all.

Getting help from her actress mom was instrumental because she was able to teach her the tricks of the trade.
But eventually, the student outgrew the pupil: "When I was 12 I was like, I got this mom. I can do this on my own.” Judging by her incredible career, Hyland wasn't kidding!

Actors, even those who are well seasoned, don't always land the role of their dreams. But that's a concept that many young actors have a tough time dealing with. Sadly, rejection it's just a part of life when you're a Hollywood star, but Hyland seems to be unaffected by it by now.
When she was interviewed for Backstage, she offered a few words of advice for future actors: "Get used to rejection because no matter what, you're going to be rejected more times than you're accepted and more times than you'll book a job. I can't even tell you how many auditions I've gone on. I can't even count. Thousands of auditions, and I've booked less than 100, less than 50, less than 30. So, it's like you win some, you lose some.”
7 She Was A Dancer Before Becoming An Acting Star
While Hyland is most famously known for her role on Modern Family, it turns out that she has a lot of other skills that may have slipped under our radars. For example, you might not know this, but she made her Broadway debut as Jackie Bouvier in the musical Grey Gardens. She also sang in the remake of Annie.
So, singing on and offstage was beyond easy for the talented Hyland.
But she also has a past as a dancer! Even though it’s been over 10 years since she danced, she still feels connected to this art. In 2016, Hyland posed for a ballerina-inspired photoshoot for Beauty Coach, in which she proved she was still “on pointe” with her flawless form.
6 Sarah Starred On The Remake Of The Movie 'Dirty Dancing'
When the original Dirty Dancing movie premiered back in 1987, it became a blockbuster hit. The cast had an amazing chemistry in front of the camera. So, when fans heard that ABC was remaking the classic movie, some fans were a little worried that the movie would be a total let down.
But despite some initial apprehension, the 2017 movie was still the bomb and had a great deal of talent, which included actress Sarah Hyland, who played the extroverted older sister, Lisa Houseman, of the character Baby in the movie. Proving she’s a jack of all trades, Hyland did a duet based on the cover of Bob Dylan's rendition of "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright," with J. Quinton Johnson.

I’m more of a homebody type. I don’t want to look like I want to be in the public eye. I didn’t become an actress to be famous.”
4 She’s A Disney Alum
Before landing her big role on Modern Family, Hyland starred in the Disney remake of Annie. But in 2011, Disney decided to once again cast her in another film called Geek Charming. In it, Hyland plays a high school diva who “allows” another student, played by her ex Matt Prokop, to document her life on film.
But while the documentary is supposed to highlight her popular life, the film quickly starts to show her downfall in this comedy-drama that makes for a hilarious Saturday afternoon movie! Of course, not all of her Disney roles were live-action either. She actually voiced animated characters like Tilfu in The Lion Guard, and the character Theresa Fowler in Disney's Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja.
3 One Of Her Tattoos Represents The Independent Boss Lady That She Is
You probably can't even tell by looking at Hyland, but she’s got three tattoos discreetly placed in her body that hold a special meaning. Her first ever tattoo is a phrase that reads, "Follow my heartbeat," which is actually part of the lyrics from one of the songs from Hair, the musical.
There's a hummingbird behind one of her ears, which the actress claims symbolize endurance, playfulness, and balance.
