20 Behind The Scenes Facts About TLC’s OutDaughtered

Adam and Danielle Busby not only entered the spotlight back in 2015, but at the same time made history when they welcomed not one, not two, but five beautiful baby girls and went from a family of three to a family of eight.

Before the birth of their girls, the loving couple was enjoying life as a family of three with their daughter Blayke, who was born in 2011. They wanted more though and that is when they decided to try for another baby. Little did they know what they were in for. During Danielle’s pregnancy, the family was chosen to have their own show on TLC called OutDaughtered, where they show the world what their daily lives are now like as a family of eight.

20 Each Girl As Her Own Distinct Personality

Just because the girls are quintuplets, doesn’t mean that they all are the same.

In fact, according to scribol.com, each girl has her own personality that differs from her sisters. Parker is shy and energetic, Riley is loud and adventurous, Hazel is a wordsmith, Ava is thoughtful and last, but not least, Olivia is fun loving and has a talent for bringing out Ava’s silly side.

19 Two Of The Girls Are Actually Identical

When Danielle first started trying, doctors originally inseminated four eggs. Incredibly, all four eggs took, but what makes things more amazing is that one of the eggs split into two, creating five babies.

According to scribol.com, most of the babies are fraternal twins, except for Olivia and Ava who are identical. No matter how mirror imaged they are though, their parents can still tell them apart.

18 Adam Suffered From Postpartum Depression After The Quints Were Born


Adam has been pretty open about his battles with mental health since the girls were born.

According to scribol.com, back in 2017, Adam opened up to People and told them, “After coming face-to-face with postpartum depression following the birth of our five daughters, I quickly learned that this is a very real struggle that dads all around the world go through, yet you rarely ever hear it talked about.”

He has since tried to be as honest and open as possible in hopes that it will help other dads who struggle with similar issues.

17 The Couple's Marriage Survived Rumors That Adam Was Being Unfaithful


When Adam’s mental health issues started, he became a lot more closed off than usual, causing rumors to start circulating that he wasn’t being faithful to Danielle.

According to scribol.com, the rumors caused a lot of stress on their marriage, but they were able to power through them and survive all the accusations.

16 Hazel Is Slower Than Her Siblings Developmentally


As the girls began to grow, Danielle and Adam noticed that little Hazel wasn’t growing as fast as her sisters.

According to scribol.com, she was even hitting milestones slower than her sisters. That is when mom and dad decided to hire an occupational therapist to help her get back on track.

That wasn’t the end of her issues though. She soon started developing problems with the movement of her eyes. She ended up needing corrective surgery to repair the issues.

15 All Five Girls Were Born With Heart Murmurs

Hazel is not the only one of the quints to have medical issues.

In fact, according to scribol.com, after the girls were born, doctors informed Danielle and Adam that all five girls were born with heart murmurs.

Luckily, the condition is manageable, and they now have medicine to help treat it.

14 Danielle's Mother Moved In To Help When The Girls Were Born, But It Wasn't Long Before They Wanted Her Out...


When the girls were born, Danielle and Adam needed a lot of help taking care of not only their five girls, but also their eldest daughter, Blayke.

According to scribol.com, that is when Danielle’s mother Mimi moved in to help. Her help was soon not needed though and during the second season of OutDaughtered, Adam and Danielle admitted that they were ready for her to leave.

It was an awkward conversation when they told Mimi that they found some places for her to rent. Adam even tried to help by saying, “Don’t you want to get out of here?”

13 ....Then She Lost Her House During Hurricane Harvey


When Hurricane Harvey hit Texas back in 2017, it impacted so many people, including the Busby family.

According to scribol.com, Mimi lost her home due to the store. Luckily, she had already been evacuated when the flooding happened.

The family updated their fans on the entire situation via Facebook with this message: “We have thrown out Mimi’s entire house today, it’s sad. Though stuff is just stuff and can always be replaced, it’s not easy tossing your belongings.” They added, “One thing is for sure, we all stick together and will make it through.”

12 They Don't Earn Much Doing The Show


With a hit show that has been airing since 2016, one would think that the Busby family must make a decent income.

Well, according to scribol.com, they do not make as much as some might think they do. In fact, according to producer Terence Michael, each episode takes around $250,000 to $400,000 to make, and Danielle and Adam only get ten percent of those figures.

11 They Started A GoFundMe Account Before The Girls Were Born


Let’s be honest, having children is expensive. They need diapers, formula, clothes, wet ones, and the list goes on and on…

Now, imagine having six, five of which are quintuplets.

According to scribol.com, back in 2014, before the quints were born, Adam started a GoFundMe to help cover some of the costs that their five new bundles of joy were about to inflict.

It turned out to be a huge success and were gifted with more than $23, 000 to help cover the girls' needs.

10 Danielle And Adam Actually Met While They Both Worked At Target


Adam and Danielle have been together for a while. Not many fans know it is how they got together.

According to scribol.com, back in 2003 both Danielle and Adam were working at a Target in Lake Charles, Louisiana. In 2017, the couple informed Style Blueprint: “We both just kind of hit it off from working side by side, and we fell in love. I like to tell everyone our carts collided in aisle five.”

The two then wed in 2006.

9 Danielle Had To Eat Over 4,000 Calories A Day While Pregnant


When a woman gets pregnant, nutrients are the key to a healthy mom and baby.

According to scribol.com, Danielle had to up her food consumption greatly while pregnant with her quints. During an interview with Fit Pregnancy in 2016, Danielle revealed: “There were parts of my pregnancy where I had to consume 4,500 calories daily. I had not one craving ever because I worked with a dietitian, and I was able to eat pretty much whatever I wanted to just fill up that allowance – especially ice cream shakes!”

8 Even With Their Popular Reality Television Series, Adam Still Works Full Time


As stated earlier, the Busbys do not make that much from their reality show. The show has changed their lives completely and is a big help to cover some expenses, but Adam still works a full-time job to help cover some of those expenses.

7 They Were Told It Would Be Wise To Not Go Through With Some Of The Fetuses

According to scribol.com, Danielle and Adam revealed on their GoFundMe page that their doctor doled the very same advice due to it being highly improbably that all babies would survive.

However, the couple refused and wrote this: “Every week, not one baby showed any signs of having problems or issues. All heartbeats and scans have been great. How would you even choose at that point?”

6 Danielle Had A Unique Reaction To Finding Out She Was Having Five Daughters

Sometimes, accidents happen. When a woman becomes pregnant and it wasn’t planned, she is most definitely going to be shocked.

Well, according to scribol.com, Danielle and Adam weren’t expecting their doctor to tell them that they had five babies on the way.

Adam was so shocked that he dropped his drink and started shaking. Danielle, on the other hand, had a rather unusual reaction. She told Fit Pregnancy during an interview: “It was a huge shock. We never thought this would happen to us, and I became hysterical – laughing. I literally could not stop laughing at the situation.”

In an interview with Style Blueprint, Danielle had this to say: “You do bottles, milk, breakfast, get them dressed, play, they nap and that’s when I shower or do some laundry, constantly run the dishwasher, constantly cooking or making food, constantly cleaning up, and they usually go to bed at about 7:00 p.m., and then you start the dishwasher for the night and start over again in the morning.”

4 Adam Is Pretty Skilled With A Round Brush

Typically, when a family has a little girl, it is the mom that does their hair and such.

The Busbys are no typical family though.

According to scribol.com, during an interview in 2017 with Parade, Adam had this to say: “Usually the mom takes on most responsibilities having to do stuff like fixing hair, picking out outfits and matching hair bows with outfits for the girls. When you have six of them, you find yourself right in the middle of that. I’m better with a round brush than Danielle!”

3 More Children Is Out Of The Question

When Adam and Danielle decided to have more children, they had no idea that they would be getting five.

According to scribol.com, with six children total now, the couple has no plans on having any more children. In fact, shortly after the quints were born, they had this to say during an interview with KPLC: “Our family is complete. The shop is closed!” And at one point on the show, Danielle even asked Adam to have a vasectomy.

2 The Couple Have Their Toes Dipped Into Different Projects To Help Keep Up With All Their Bills


When Danielle first decided she wanted to go back to work, Adam was not all too thrilled about it.

Since then, Danielle has had her toes dipped in quite a few different projects, including a family-owned cycling company called Rush Cycle.

Also, according to scribol.com, on top of the show, and her cycling company, she also earns money through her social media accounts by promoting different products such as beauty and skin care, even popsicles.

1 The Couple Doesn't Force Their Children To Be On Camera If They Don't Want To


Although almost every aspect of their lives is aired for the public, Adam and Danielle do not want to force this lifestyle on their girls.

According to scribol.com, the couple does not force their girls to be on screen if they do not want to. In fact, Danielle had this to say: “We respect all the kids’ wishes, and if they don’t want to be on camera at certain times, we don’t make them. And we’ll do that with all our kids.”
