Behind the scenes, it is a tumultuous time, to say the least. WWE is set to debut on FOX in the fall. That’s the good news. The bad news is that the product hasn’t been on a high as of late. RAW continues to receive low ratings, along with bad reviews nearly every episode. As any wrestling fan can imagine, this has created a lot of toxicity behind the scenes.
In 2018, the women’s division seemed immune to any type of controversy or flaws. However, 2019 seems to be a different story. The division isn’t as fire as it once was, especially on RAW since the departure of Ronda Rousey. Things continue to trend in the opposite direction with lots of details emerging behind the scenes. These are current issues WWE would rather keep on the DL.
In this article, we’ll take a look at various topics including potential future matchups, unhappy talent behind the scenes, former couples splitting, and even new relationships forging. Although things might not be the best, we can all admit that the drama backstage is at an all-time high. Wrestling fans definitely love the drama backstage; it keeps things interesting when the on-screen product just isn’t delivering.
Enjoy the article folks and like always be sure to share it with a friend. Without further ado, here 17 current things the WWE Divas locker room wants to keep on the DL. Let’s get started.
17 Becky’s WrestleMania Opponent Already Confirmed
These days, WWE really doesn’t think too far ahead when it comes to storylines and booking certain programs. In fact, today, it is said that everything happens just prior to a show. Back in the day, things were much different with storylines booked months in advance.
That seems to be the approach WWE’s taking with Becky and her WrestleMania 36 match. The word backstage is that WWE has already confirmed her opponent. Surprisingly, Ring Side News claims that her adversary won’t be Stephanie McMahon, Charlotte, or the heavily rumored Ronda Rousey match. This news definitely raises lots of eyebrows. For now, WWE might want to keep this on the DL.
16 Paige Managing Ronda Rousey
According to her recent interview with Comic Book, Paige admitted that she pitched the idea of working as the advocate/manager for Ronda Rousey, a role similar to the one Paul Heyman has for Brock Lesnar. Paige details what she had in mind with the same site;
“I pitched to manage Ronda Rousey, kind of like the Paul Heyman-Brock Lesnar thing. And then also be with Asuka, because Asuka had trouble speaking on the mic sometimes. As much as she’s an amazing athlete, an incredible wrestler, and I was like, ‘I’ll help her, give me the microphone, I’ll talk for her'.”
15 Paige Turning To Hollywood
Watching Paige call it quits was that much harder to deal with given that she’s still in her mid-20s. Surely, the plan for Paige was to keep on going at least until her 30s. Although those plans were derailed, she’s still a part of WWE, having worked as a GM and now in her current role as the manager for Asuka and Kairi Sane.
However, Paige is also working on life after wrestling–we really don’t blame her one bit. Paige was caught in the streets by the TMZ cameras and she admitted that she’s now auditioning for non-wrestling related film and TV roles. Given the current state of the division, the last thing WWE wants to admit at the moment is that a popular Diva is looking for work elsewhere. Best to keep this one on the DL, for now.
14 Carmella & John Cena Rumors
Carmella finally ended this bizarre rumor once and for all. It was reported last year that Cena and Carmella were together following John and Nikki’s breakup. It was even said that they were spotted together at a bar in Tampa. Finally, Carmella put the rumor to bed during an interview on the Bellas Podcast. Here’s what she had to say;
“That is the most insane rumor. It was when I had split up with my ex and we had been seen out in a bar in Tampa, and they just assumed he was with me.” Sounds like fans were overeager to pair the two up.
13 Lana Using Risqué Tactics
Things aren’t too steady right now, especially when it comes to the ratings. The women’s division was also on a giant high back in 2018, though we can’t say the same for 2019. Even the likes of Becky Lynch, the company’s most popular act, are starting to lose some steam.
Lana decided to have some fun via social media with the current WWE issues. Lana put a risqué photo up on her IG account, claiming that she has the answer to what can fix the rating issues. Given the WWE is a PG friendly program; they likely want to keep this post on the DL.
12 Alexa Bliss Leaving WWE
Let’s be clear here: this rumor wasn’t started because of Alexa Bliss or anything that she said. Instead, it was former WWE lead writer Vince Russo that stirred the pot on this matter.
Via his podcast, Russo made mention that Alexa is way too good for WWE and that she should look for work elsewhere. Here’s what he had to say via Wrestle Zone; “You’re too good for that show. You’re too good for that product. You need to get yourself an agent. You need to go outside of that because they’re going to drag you down. She’s very good at what she does.”
11 WWE Makes A Roster Change Because Of Charlotte
WWE is quite understanding when it comes to couples. When talent is living the road life, sustaining a relationship isn’t very easy. It gets that much harder if wrestlers are on different brands working different schedules.
That was almost the case with Andrade and Charlotte. The newly formed couple was split up when it was revealed that Andrade was moved to RAW for the Shakeup. It is said that behind the scenes, Charlotte was none too pleased. Ultimately, WWE would go back on this decision and Almas was kept on SmackDown Live alongside his partner. We're guessing that's good news for their relationship, but the impending split had us worried for a bit.
10 Nikki Takes A Shot At John Cena
When it comes to anyone taking a shot at John Cena, WWE most certainly wants to keep it on the DL. Even if he isn’t on the programming regularly like he used to, John is untouchable in WWE’s eyes.
We can imagine that they weren’t too thrilled when Nikki decided to take a shot at her ex via Twitter. It is said that Nikki wasn’t too happy with one of John’s tweets so she decided to respond with one of her own. Here’s what she tweeted out; “When you don’t give him what he wants, he will delete you, silence you, manipulate you, do what he can to destroy you, but turn that hurt into strength. Take the high road and prevail! Happiness can’t be bought, it is priceless.”
9 Ronda Rousey To Join Total Divas
According to Wrestle Talk, the current plan behind the scenes might be to include Ronda Rousey on the next season of Total Divas. The show is undergoing some major changes behind the scenes. The biggest might be the Bella Twins deciding to leave the show. That causes a huge gap given that they are the most popular. It is also said that Lana won’t be returning either, due to the network officials not totally digging her work on the program.
Rousey would be a wise move and one that would make lots of sense. Though given her current standing with WWE, lots of fans remain in the dark when it comes to this locker room story.
8 Charlotte Breaking Character And Calling Becky Her Best Friend
It isn’t always the best look for the company when one of the top villains in the women’s division breaks character and calls an adversary her real-life best friend out of the ring. That’s exactly what happened during Charlotte’s interview with Newsday. WWE surely wants to keep these comments on the DL;
"My best friend is Becky Lynch," Flair said. "It was very challenging fighting for the same thing because we always travel together, eat together, work out together, share everything. So when we started competing against each other, I lost that one person that I relied on. But it made me stronger in the process."
7 Sasha’s Backstage WrestleMania Tantrum
It wasn’t the best look for Sasha when it was reported that she had a temper tantrum backstage following her WrestleMania defeat. Various wrestling publications reported on the matter. It is a story that needs to be kept on the DL, especially for WWE.
Sasha’s husband Mikaze actually addressed the rumors via his social media account. According to the backstage WWE worker, the tantrum simply never took place and claims that it was totally fabricated. Fans are hoping this is true–at the very least, it’ll give Sasha a chance to return. Of course, we don't know for sure what really happened behind the scenes, meaning WWE likely won't want to share details.
6 Toni Storm’s Match Gets Cancelled
The great part about working for NXT: UK is the fact that the younger wrestlers can keep active with other independent companies at the same time. That is a big-time key for younger wrestlers looking to get as much exposure as possible.
What WWE wants to keep on the DL is the fact that they recently canceled a match featuring one of their own talents taking on a Diva from AEW. Toni Storm was slated to take on Bea Priestley, however, the company stepped in and forced an end to this bout even before it happened. We're guessing they don't want the news getting out.
5 Liv Morgan’s SmackDown Move
One of the more surprising changes during the Superstar Shakeup saw Liv Morgan get drafted over to SmackDown, leaving her partners behind. At first glance, fans thought this was done in order to give Morgan a big push on her own.
However, there might be another reason for the big move. According to the backstage gossip, Liv is set to join the cast of Total Divas, which might have been the reason for the shakeup. Not only that, but she’s also been barely utilized on SD Live since making the move. So much for the push, huh... Clearly, WWE doesn't want fans to know what's really happening.
4 The Bliss & Murphy Breakup
At the moment, this is one of the most trending stories from behind the scenes. It was recently revealed that Bliss and Murphy not only called off their engagement but split altogether. What was even more surprising is the fact that the two had split up way back in September of 2018.
Although they ended things, it is said that they did so on amicable terms and are both fans of each other’s in-ring work. At the moment, both are on different brands, with Alexa on RAW while Murphy recently making his debut for SmackDown Live. At the very least, working on different shows might make the breakup easier.
3 No Timetable For Sasha’s Return
This one is very troubling for WWE and the environment behind the scenes. Not only is the moral low at the moment but it is also believed that one of the top stars from the division isn’t slated to return any time soon.
Since WrestleMania, we really haven’t see Banks much at all, aside from her social media account. That doesn’t appear to be changing any time soon, with no talks pertaining to a return at the moment. This isn’t the greatest news and we can see this one playing out with no resolution until Sasha’s contract comes to an end.
2 Championships Defended On Both Brands
At the moment, this seems to be the plan moving forward. WWE wants to keep the championships on both brands. Don’t expect to see the Women’s Tag Titles on one show; the plan moving forward is to have the belts on both shows. The same is set to take place with the Women’s Championships, as it seems like WWE enjoys the idea of having one title holder on both brands.
It especially helps that the title holder is Becky Lynch, the most compelling act in WWE. Don’t be surprised if she stays champion of both brands for an extended amount of time. In the event that she does lose, the plan is to keep Becky on RAW but again, that might not go down.
1 Seth & Becky Together Behind The Scenes
Even before Lynch’s reveal, there were lots of rumors swirling around that the two were, in fact, a couple. Lynch would basically make it official during a Twitter war with Beth, telling her that she was going to ask her man, Seth Rollins.
Seth would then confirm the relationship posting a picture of the two together backstage sharing a warm embrace. Given that it really isn’t wrestling related, we assume WWE would have rather kept this on the DL. But it's way too late for that now as the story continues to trend across the wrestling community.
