16 Messed Up Things The Duggars Have Actually Said

On September 29, 2008, TLC released the series about a family who just keeps growing. This family has 19 kids and they are still counting–if it was not obvious from the little 19 Kids and Counting. The show was originally called 17 Kids and Counting but maybe the reason the name for the series changed twice is clear. The show focused on the Duggar family, who all claimed to be devoted Christians, and they mainly spoke about their virtue and their purity. The family undoubtedly did not believe in birth control due to the fact that they have so many children.

The show followed all of their family and basically just told the stories of their ups and downs. The docuseries was canceled in 2015 after the eldest son admitted to assaulting five girls. So yeah, the family does not have the best reputation at the moment. The entire family has received backlash from their ways and some of the things they have said. The Duggars have said things that some people would not even dream of hearing and it just surprises so many fans of the TLC network. Read on to see some of the baloney that the family has shot out of their mouths.

16 The Woman Should Do What He Wants When He Wants It

The Duggar family members claim that they follow the Bible 100% and are not ashamed about it. The man is the king of the household in their eyes and a woman should do as she is told and is supposed to "give it up" whenever her man says he needs it because that is her job–at least that is what Michelle Duggar said.

Here is her quote, "Your hubby comes home after a hard day's work, you get the baby to bed and he is going to be looking forward to that time with you. Anyone can fix him lunch, but only one person can meet that physical need of love, and you always need to be available when he calls." She is making it seem like she doesn't really have a choice and a lot of independent women out there probably don't like the sound of that.

15 Michelle Duggar Claiming There's An American Holocaust

Via: Google Images

Now we all know that the Holocaust was a horrendous time in human history and it is disgusting when someone uses the event within a bloodless joke or is cold-hearted when speaking about the subject. And please for the love of God, never use the Holocaust as a metaphor for something that does not even compare to the millions of murders that happened during that time.

If what Michelle Duggar said above was not bad enough, she also said this: "A couple of weeks after we went to the Holocaust Museum, it dawned on us that there is a holocaust taking place right here in America! More than 56 million lives have been destroyed in our country! That is over 4,000 babies being killed and 4,000 women being wounded each day."

14 Claiming The Bible Is Not Neutral When It Comes To The LGBT+ Community

Via: Google Images

With the family being so uptight within their religious ways and was as bigoted as they have appeared on television and social media, it would not be too unrealistic to believe that they would say anything ornery in regards to the LGBT+ community.

America may slowly be becoming more progressive towards the different "lifestyles," but Josh from the show had this to say in response to being asked about same-sex relationships, "The Bible's not neutral about lifestyles. The Bible blesses and approves of some and not others."

A lot of citizens use the Bible as a rulebook for their entire lives but most of them do not use it as heavily as the Duggars do and they also do not read into it as hard as they do. Everyone has the right to their own opinions, but don't try to take someone's rights away because it's not something you like.

13 Cultural Insensitivity

Via: Google Images

Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard are a popular couple that happened during the time the show was on the air. They found it so fascinating to be able to work with international students—and a lot of people would find that activity to be intriguing—but they were both extremely insensitive to the fact that most of the students were Muslim. They had a Muslim family over for dinner and they were so excited to share their gospel with the family.

Jill even said, "We are praying for him (referring to the father of the Muslim family), as Derick and others continue to befriend him, that God will save his soul." Sharing their views and wanting people to understand their ways is such a big part of their lives but we are all positive they did not once seem interested to ask about the family's religion or ask to hear some things from their Quran.

12 Are They Trying To Offend An Entire Race?

Via: Google Images

Anna Duggar was under-fire once she said this incurious comment about abortion during Black History Month. She said, "Because of the violence of abortion, over 16 million black people are history. Human beings should be remembered, not dismembered." Black History Month is a time to celebrate the lives of some of the amazing African and African-American people who conquered history and did phenomenal things for society.

It is a time for people to be proud of who they are and love their culture. It is not a time that is supposed to be used to your advantage as a promotional tool for your personal protests. Anna, maybe you should take the time to understand what the community has had to go through and still has to go through before you make remarks that will deliver you backlash.

11 Overpopulation Is A Hoax

Via: Google Images

A fan sent in a question for Michelle Duggar asking her what her opinions were about overpopulation on the Earth because of her family's enormous size.

In response to the question, she stated, "The idea of overpopulation is not accurate because, really, the entire population of the world, if they were stretched shoulder to shoulder, could fit within the city limits of Jacksonville." Michelle Duggar seems to believe that overpopulation means there is not enough space left for people to move when in reality it is determined by the number of resources that are available.

If every family were to have 19 children—and were still counting—then there would be no possible way to have enough food, water, etc. to support every living human being. It seems like this family disregards basic science and other facts.

10 Anti-Trans Remarks

Via: Google Images

We all remember that dreaded bathroom bill that was created to condemn transgender individuals and keep them out of their preferred restrooms. So many people were against it and in Trump's America, we knew there would be people who were for it. Anything that is different disserves to be denounced.

Michelle Duggar was overly-excited about the idea of the bill because she stated this: "It would allow men—yes, I said men—to use women's and girls' restrooms, locker rooms, showers, sleeping areas and other areas that are designated for females only."

There have been zero cases of transgender people hurting women in public restrooms. The bill was imagined to protect women and children. It was created to hurt the LGBT+ community. It is just so flabbergasting that any single soul could hate someone or disagree with a lifestyle just because it is not like theirs.

9 Eyes Up Here, Boys

Almost every family's idea of the best vacation is relaxing on the beach, riding waves and soaking their feet in the beautiful crystal blue water while the sun is tanning their skin. The Duggar family has a different idea of the beach than most other households do.

Michelle Duggar said, "We typically don't go to the beach in the summertime. And, in general, we don't do a lot of swimming events where swimming suits are worn because it's just too hard for the guys to try to keep their eyes averted in those situations."

It appears that mama does not want her little boys' eyes to be tainted with the appearance of a human body. Almost every teenage boy in America loves to go swimming and play in the water. Of course, they are going to have roaming eyes. Every young man does! It is only human nature. Don't take away their fun.

8 Josh Makes An Incest Wisecrack

Via: Google Images

This one is fairly gross. The members of this family have proven to be a little insensitive and tend to make gags about delicate topics. The gag this family member made might cause a reader to feel uncomfortable.

The oldest son of the Duggar family made this little joke talking about incest and it is just cringe-worthy to a lot of fans of TLC: "We chose Jana and John David. We thought, why not have a double date...We are from Arkansas, no?"

Why would anyone make an incestual joke? It is just disturbing. Even suggesting certain themes can make people's skin crawl. Arkansas residents probably are not too fond of being referred to as incestual either. Do we think normalizing brother-sister relations would be something the Arkies would be in support of? Yeah—probably not.

7 He Was Just Curious

Via: Google Images

Most people who have been following the Duggar family or paying attention to anything TLC-related have heard about the allegations of the scandal involving Josh Duggar. Josh Duggar was responsible for molesting four little girls right before the show was canceled in 2015. It is understandable for any parent to want to protect and defend their child but safeguarding an acting such as abuse is not something any sane person would be an advocate for.

Well, Mr. Jim Bob of the Duggar family said this about the actions his son did, "He said he was just curious about girls, and he had gone in and basically just touched them over their clothes while they were sleeping.” Oh, so it is okay to inappropriately touch somebody—let alone a child—without their permission as long as it is over their clothes? What kind of statement is that?

6 Still Defending Josh's Actions

Via: Google Images

Jim Bob Duggar was not the only one taking up for his son while he was getting in trouble for his heinous actions. The opinionated Michelle Duggar had to throw in her two cents as well declaring, “To them they probably didn’t even understand that it was an improper touch.”

What did she say? Must it be read again? They did not understand that it was an improper touch? Does that still make the situation okay? Is it alright that your son did what he did just because the children did not understand what was happening?

These kinds of awful statements are just not okay. Opinions like these are the kinds of terrible beliefs that get people hurt and keep the world from becoming a safer and more accepting place.

5 They Are Advocates Now

Via: Google Images

Still speaking about the molestation scandal that ruined their show, the Duggars tried to flip-flop the subject to make someone else look like the bad guy. They claim the details of the crime were leaked illegally. Jim Bob explained, "This information was released illegally, so I wonder why all this press is not going after the system for releasing juvenile records. That’s a huge story!"

It may have been a huge story. We are positive more people would want to hear about what your son did. They even tried to make themselves look like victims in this certain situation. It has been so hard on them since things were released that now they want to be defenders against records released illegally. Jim Bob said, "We want to be an advocate for protecting juvenile records."

4 Denial From The Sister

Via: Google Images

Josh's sister—Jessa—is tired of hearing of the situation. She does not want to be put in the middle of it and she is just irritated by the idea of people saying such things about her brother. Jessa announced, "I do want to speak up in his defense against people who are calling him a child molester or a pedophile or a rapist... I'm like, that is so overboard and a lie really."

Jessa does not want to believe any of it happened. Could she be in denial? Josh even admitted to doing what he was accused of. So, if the scandal had a confession to go with it, how is it a lie? That information right there is basically proof. It is enough proof most people need to believe at least.

3 More Hate For The Transgender Community

Via: Google Images

The family must have a strong hate for the transgender community. They must not want to learn about who the transgender people are and they want to deny specific facts regarding people that have gender dysphoria. Michelle spoke for the people of Fayetteville by saying, "I don't believe the citizens of Fayetteville would want males with past child predator convictions that claim they are female to have a legal right to enter private areas that are reserved for women and girls."

Where is she coming up with these facts that transgender people have child predator convictions? It has been proven that more cis-gender straight males have committed more crimes within public restrooms. We should be able to just go potty where we want to use the potty! We do not worry about anyone else. Michelle also went to bat for Derick when he was accused of hate-tweeting the transgender community. Where does it end?

2 No Wandering Eyes

Via: Google Images

Jim Bob Duggar has a code word for his children–specifically his sons. Mom and dad do not want their sons having wandering eyes so keeping their heads down when necessary is enforced.

The Duggar daughters were speaking of the code word—which happens to be "Nike"— and they all said this, "That's a signal to the boys, and even to dad, that they should nonchalantly drop their eyes and look down at their shoes as we walk past her...It's meant to help keep the guys' eyes from seeing things they shouldn't be seeing. By using the single-word signal, the warning can be given quietly and discreetly."

The Duggars are dead serious about looking at their toes rather than women. The sons are probably finding the urge to hard to resist at times.

1 The Earth Is So Young

Via: Google Images

Every person has heard about how old the Earth is within their science classes. We know that it is theorized that the Earth was created by the big bang and that the beautiful world we live in today took millions of years to form. Jessa—like a lot of other religious people—is not too sure she believes that theory.

She questioned science by asking, "Does radiometric dating prove the earth is old?" Well Jessa, according to science it does. If it makes her feel any better, maybe the world was created in seven days by God. No one knows exactly how long a day is for God so is it possible to say that maybe the big bang theory is real because her creator caused it?

Anything is possible, but questioning what is known to be a fact can cause you to look a little dense.
