There are some actresses that have a few great roles and already leave a lasting mark on the entertainment world. Think of Rachel McAdams, for example. She got her start on The Hot Chick with a small role, then graduated to comedic goodness with Mean Girls and played the bad girl better than anyone. The last role securing her incredible career? That would be The Notebook, where she showed her talented dramatic side, alongside Ryan Gosling. Then, there are some that have just one role and become household names just like that. In Emma Roberts' case, she is an actress that has a lot of famous family members (aunt Julia Roberts is just one), but she has proven that her acting chops are just as good, if not better, than her familial counterparts.

Roberts got her start in small roles in popular films like Blow and America's Sweethearts when she was just ten years old. Her two big breaks were two lead roles, one in Aquamarine and the other in Nancy Drew. She was just fifteen then. Now, she has exploded into the Hollywood scene in an incredibly big way and it seems like no one is stopping her.

Below, read sixteen cool facts about cool girl Emma Roberts that only fans would know about her.

16 She Was Born In Upstate New York

Blonde, beautiful, and quite the talented young woman, Emma Roberts was born on February 10th, 1991. What many don't know is that she was born in upstate New York in a little quaint and cute town called Rhinebeck. Her father, Eric Roberts, and mother, Kelly Cunningham, welcomed her in the second month of the year when there was still snow on the ground. As many knows, Eric Roberts is a famous actor (which we'll get to in just a bit). The two split up less than a year after Emma was born and were never actually married. Despite Cunningham's disagreement, Roberts came to love being on set with her father and her aunt, famous actress Julia Roberts and decided she wanted a career in acting.

15 Her Dad Is A Famous Actor, And So Is Her Aunt

Eric Roberts was around acting all his life, as his mother is a famous acting coach. Roberts was just eight when he had his first role and since then he has had over 500 roles to date! That is incredible in itself. The actor, who just turned 62, starred in Runaway Train, The Ambulance, Lonely Hearts, Freefall, and The Cable Guy. Once Emma was older, he went on to star in more popular roles like Public Enemies, La Cucaracha, The Alternate, National Security, and Final Approach. Most recently he starred in The Dark Knight and The Expendables. He has starred on shows like Law & Order: SVU, Grey's Anatomy, CSI: Miami, and more! He is very well-known, too, but you will see Emma didn't use that to her advantage like many may think. And we all know Julia Roberts, right? Most recently she was in the movie Wonder but is best known for Pretty Woman, Erin Brockovich, and Notting Hill.

14 Emma Nabbed The First Role She Auditioned For

Let's be honest, readers: Emma was already a 'household' name due to her famous father and family. Her aunt is Julia Roberts, after all. So, it is no surprise that a lot of people would assume that she got certain roles or moved up the ladder quickly due to that last name. But, nepotism is so 1980! How can we prove that? Well, Roberts actually got the first role she auditioned for! That's right-- she did have to audition. That very first role was in Blow, alongside Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, and Ray Liotta. She played the younger version of fellow actress Jaime King's character, Kristina Jung. She was just ten when she appeared on screen for the first time, even though she had been visiting sets for years at that point.

13 Her First Lead Role Came At The Young Age Of 13

Yet another reason to clearly see that nepotism is a thing of the past, Emma Roberts scored her first lead role at the age of thirteen. She played Addie Singer on the Nickelodeon show Unfabulous from 2004-2007. She played a young teenager that loved to write and sing while growing up in a world of crushes, new and old friendships, and a new school environment. In fact, when it comes to acting, Roberts discussed how it was actually easier than singing in an interview many years ago. She states: ". . . I get more nervous singing than I do acting. You know, acting you're playing a character and stuff but singing, you're presenting yourself as you so it's different." Little did we all know this interview would allude to the stellar career she would someday have!

12 She Is A Musical Artist, Too

On her show Unfabulous, our beautiful and talented Emma Roberts actually played someone whose life very much focused on music, teenager Addie Singer. She even released an album for her show, which brings us to this information about her that many may not know: Emma is actually very musically talented! While on her show, she made an album, Unfabulous and More, and released it to the masses. She had two hit singles: I Wanna Be and Dummy. After this, Roberts even recorded two songs for different soundtracks for movies: Ice Princess and Aquamarine. Even though she found success here, she did decide to focus on her acting career after this. By this time, Roberts was almost 18 years old and taking on more adult-like roles.

11 Emma Attended Sarah Lawrence College

In 2011, Emma had just turned 20 years old. Since her Unfabulous days, she had gone on to appear in Hotel for Dogs, Valentine's Day, and Scream 4. Then, in August of that year, Emma decided to announce that she would be attending Sarah Lawrence College in New York! That's right, she decided to join the likes of Carrie Fisher and Vera Wang by attending college there. She started that September with an English literature major. Then, just months later in early January of 2012, Roberts announced she was putting college on hold due to too many work commitments. Many speculated that she was too scared to take that many years off of acting in fear of not being able to find jobs after she was finished with her degree. Either way, Roberts has never returned to school.

10 Her Grandmother Was An Acting Coach

With her father being a famous and successful actor and her aunt being one of the best-known names and most talented actresses in Hollywood, it really isn't any surprise to us that Emma ended up on the same career path as the two of them. However, what many do not know is that Emma's grandmother-- Eric Roberts' mother-- was a famous acting coach! Betty Lou Bredemus was born in August of 1934 and grew to be an actress and eventual acting coach. She performed in many plays as she grew up and met her future husband, Walter Roberts, while performing. They moved to Georgia in 1960 after they had Eric and started a workshop for acting called Atlanta Actors and Writers Workshop which proved to be wildly successful. They went on to have Julia as well before divorcing. Betty Lou died in Los Angeles in 2015.

9 She Has Been With Actor Evan Peters On-And-Off For Six Years

Emma Roberts has been known to date stars like Chord Overstreet and Alex Pettyfer. Then, in 2012 when she was just 21, Roberts started dating Adult World co-star Evan Peters, who was 25 at the time. Then, in the summer of 2013, Roberts was actually arrested on suspicion of being violent towards Evan after the two stars were found in a hotel room. Perez Hilton reported that the couple's people released a joint statement; "It was an unfortunate incident and misunderstanding. Ms. Roberts was released after questioning and the couple is working together to move past it."

Peters did not press charges and the two made up shortly thereafter. The two got engaged just months later before splitting up again in June of 2015. The two reconciled two months later just to break up again in the spring of 2016. The two got back together for a third time in the fall of 2016 and have been together ever since. What a whirlwind romance right?!

8 Emma Has Been On Teen Vogue's Best Dressed List Multiple Times

Emma Roberts has been in the spotlight virtually all of her life. When she was a teenager and the star of her own show, she probably had her clothes chosen for her. But, as she grew up, she had a lot more choice in what she wore to events, out on the town, and possibly in movies even. Her red carpet looks got better, too, and everyone loved her changing hairstyles. Then, around 2008-2009, Roberts dyed her hair dark to the point of black and started wearing more daring looks. It was clear she very much came into her own, especially when she started gracing Teen Vogue's Best Dressed list week after week. If it wasn't a cute skirt and stiletto outfit, it was the perfect LBD for her skinny frame.

7 She Is Left-Handed

How many times do you see an actor or actress write? Probably not so often, right? That is why this one is definitely not known by many people, because only friends and family close to her-- and maybe some business people she works with-- would know that she writes with her left hand! That's right, our favorite American Horror Story actress is left-handed. Roberts joins the ranks of other famous left-handers, including Angelina Jolie, Sarah Jessica Parker, aunt Julia Roberts (hey, maybe that's where she gets it from!), Oprah Winfrey, and Demi Moore. They say left-handed people are more creative, more in tune with their emotions, and very talented with anything they decide to put their mind to-- even if it takes them a little while to get good at it.

6 She Has Four Movies Coming Out In 2018

Recently, Emma Roberts has starred in popular movies like Nerve with Dave Franco, Empire State with Liam Hemsworth and Dwayne Johnson, and We're the Millers. Another thing that is great about Roberts is that she doesn't always choose movies or shows that will just be popular; she chooses what she is interested in. She has also starred in the TV movie Delirium (2014) and Ashby with Mickey Rourke. Coming up this year, Roberts has four movies in the queue. Two of these films are in post-production, Little Italy and Billionaire Boys Club, and one is currently filming: Paradise Hills. Anya's Ghost is a movie that only she is connected to at the moment and it is based off of a novel by Vera Brosgol.

It is clear that Emma's career is going nowhere but up!

5 Emma Likes To Eat Whatever She Wants

Roberts is clearly a skinny and petite woman, but even small women have to find their own ways to stay healthy and keep her frame. She loves working out, doing Pilates, and maintaining a nice figure for her many movie roles. However, when prepping for a photo shoot with Shape magazine in early November, Roberts decided that she would eat a cupcake just a few days before the photo shoot. Why? Well, that is because she wanted to! Of her diet, Emma says: "With my diet, I eat what feels good for me at the time." She goes on to say that she does not force herself to eat what she expects, but responds to what her body seems to be telling her to have.

4 She Loves Pilates

In the same Shape magazine interview, Emma talks about the different ways she stays fit. Similar to her 'diet' philosophy, Emma states that she only does what works for her body. Even though she tried to get into running, she said it didn't work for her, whereas Pilates does. "I love Pilates. I feel very energized and centered when I walk out the door afterward. . . . Pilates is something you take your time at, and it makes me feel very clear." That being said, Emma isn't scared of breaking a sweat to get herself to that centered and refreshed point. Emma Roberts can teach us all something: you have to do what works best for you and your body in order to be your happiest and best self.

3 She Also Loves Breakfast Food

In the same vein as working out and dieting, Emma Roberts is clear about her favorite type of food. Did you know that the breakfast type is her all-time favorite? "I adore classic breakfast foods," she states. She can eat it pretty much every day all day and is usually eating some version of it for almost every meal. "On my days off, I'll have eggs, bacon, and toast." (Emma Roberts: she is just like us!) Roberts goes on to say that she also loves donuts, ice cream, and cupcakes-- and will sometimes bring them to work for everyone as a nice treat. Even though she eats pretty healthy and maintains a healthy weight, Roberts does not cut out the things she loves, no matter what.

2 She Leaves Her Phone At Home If She Has Plans

Yet another thing we can all learn from Emma, 27, is that she never gets distracted by technology, specifically her cell phone. In her Shape magazine interview, Emma says that she doesn't Instagram or Snapchat everything she does-- and that isn't why she makes plans, either. "If I'm going out to eat with friends or my boyfriend, I leave my phone at home so that I'm not reaching for it." She goes on to explain that it clears her head and allows her to be fully present in the moment, instead of worrying about who may be texting her or what other things are going on anywhere but where she is. Giving your brain room to breathe is something we can all aspire to do.

1 She Believes That The Opinion You Have Of Yourself Is What Matters Most

Talented, bold, and kind Emma will be 28 years old next year in February. She may be young and possibly naïve at times, but she has been through and learned a lot as we have read in this article, and we can all take a page from her book. And, if there is any page we should take, it is the one we are about to leave you with.

Regarding confidence and remaining true to yourself, Emma states: "I believe we are all innately confident. It's so important to stay true to ourselves and find that confidence we had as kids. Know that your opinion about yourself matters more than anybody else's. Keep turning up the volume on your own voice, and don't let other people's voices get louder."
