"50 is Eminem's favourite rapper. I'm my favourite rapper." Kanye West is a man with an ego. Easily the most outspoken celebrity around, Kanye is the kind of man who can make global headlines from a single tweet.

In 2016, BBC Music ran an article asking what a psychologist thought of Kanye West's Twitter feed. Yes, we've finally reached the point where tweets from a rapper can warrant input from psychology professionals. They're examining the thoughts of a self-proclaimed "God" and "genius" who manages to make as many headlines for his musings as he does for his music. Can you believe it?

Kanye West has his fans and his..."not so fans." Whether you worship the guy or you 100% can't stand him, you'll have an opinion. Of course, Kanye's thoughts manage to reach the mainstream a lot more than they used to now that he is married to Kim Kardashian.

A lot of words get thrown around when Kanye comes up. "Narcissist" is one that we see regularly. Then again, so is "marketing genius."

Remember that this guy is running the Yeezy empire (with a little helping hand from that wife of his and a parking lot). Ariana Grande? She's always in Yeezy sweaters. The Rock? He works out to Kanye West. At the same time, there's no denying that Kanye is #Controversial. Here are 16 of his most extra statements (including 4 from Kim).

20 "My Greatest Pain In Life Is That I Will Never Be Able To See Myself Perform Live"

And so begin the quotes of Kanye West. In 2013, The Independent took this Kanye quote and called it "sheer arrogance." Kanye had said this on VH1 Storytellers, as News reports, and it isn't a quote we're likely to forget.

In some ways, the egotistic streak is one that we've seen before with stars. Nicki Minaj might not be quoting her regrets, but she's calling herself a #Queen. Victoria Beckham just called herself a "style icon" not too long ago.

"My greatest pain in life is that I'll never be able to see myself perform live" probably tops them all. Well, Kanye will have to settle for watching playbacks of his performances.

19 "I'm Like A Vessel, And God Has Chosen Me To Be The Voice"

Quotes like these will find themselves on lists entitled "Kanye West's Most Outrageous Quotes." While it's pretty obvious why, there are two sides to Kanye. One seems to take his deity beliefs 100% seriously. The other admits to being "human."

Kanye has referred to himself as both a "god" and a "genius." At the same time, he talks about being a human and having flaws.

"God chose me," Kanye said on VH1's Storytellers, as Metro reports. "He made a path for me. I am God's vessel and God has chosen me to be the voice and the connector." Not our words, his...

18 To Kim: "No, You Don't Understand. I See The Vision"

KimYe have been flaunting their "mismatched couple works out fine" status since 2012. To be fair, the seemingly most self-obsessed woman in Hollywood is proving a great match for the man who legitimately thinks that he is god-like. Kim and Kanye don't always see eye to eye, though.

In 2018, Kim wanted to post a series of pictures of herself to Instagram. KUWTK fans learned that Kim wanted to post beach pics. "I'm like: I like the beach one," she said, as People reports. "He's like: No. You don't understand. I see the vision." Kim admitted to being super frustrated that Kanye wanted to "control" which pics she chose. Well, you can't argue with "the vision!"

17 Kim: "I'm Kind Of Annoyed Because I Wish He Would Understand"

The more you read these statements, the more you kind of start to respect Kim. Kim seems genuinely happy in what is now her third marriage (even if it did take two failed ones to find "the one").

Kim does get frustrated with Kanye, though. When Kim didn't get Kanye the Band-Aid that he wanted on KUWTK, she vented to Kourtney. "I'm kind of annoyed because I wish he would understand," Kim said, as Metro reports. Kim added that she is "exhausted."

Kanye appeared jealous that Kim "would have gotten Saint the right Band-Aid."

Khloe offered help: "If that's going to make him feel better– just get him a Band-Aid."

Is she married to a man or a man-child?

16 On Yeezy Sales: "Only Thing Close To This Is The iPhone"

In April 2018, Kanye took to Twitter. "The Yeezy 350s sell 400 thousand pair [sic] in four hours. Only thing close to this is the iPhone," he wrote. This followed a similar quote about the Desert Rat sneaker.

Kanye has made so many outlandish Yeezy statements, GQ actually hired someone to analyze them. "Hard to say" was their take on this quote.

GQ's take? Before you laugh off Kanye's claims, bear in mind that Yeezy 350 Boost sneakers were the most searched-for sneaker online this year. Whether Yeezy is up there with the iPhone might be pushing it, but even GQ's experts had to slap this one with a "hard to say."

15 "Just Talk To Me Like A 4-Year-Old."

In 2016, Surface Mag sat down with Kanye West to talk music, fashion and the one thing that Kanye is proving to be good at– business. Kanye's techniques aren't conventional, but they were enough for Business Insider to call the rapper a "marketing genius."

That Paris Hilton pic where she was dressed in Yeezy as Kim K? Carefully planned. The result was a 45% spike in online Yeezy searches, Business Insider reports. This is where Kanye's quote doesn't make much sense. Kanye told Surface that business "has to be stupider."

Adding that he wants to do "really straightforward, stupid business," Kanye said: "Just talk to me like a 4-year-old." Okay, then.

14 "I Feel Like I'm Too Busy Writing History To Read It"

Kanye West might not be your favourite person, but you've got to admit, he's got a way with words. "Dressed smart like a London bloke/Before he speak his suit bespoke/And you thought he was cute before/Look at this pea coat/Tell me he's broke." Snappy, right?

Much like his style, Kanye's statements tend to be either super pared-down or straight-up explosive. When Kanye said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that he was "too busy writing history to read it," fan comments soon poured in. Kanye has also admitted that he isn't much of a book reader.

Regarding the quote, Kanye has kind of made history. Perhaps not for the best reasons, but put it this way– Kanye won't be forgotten.

13 "Fashion Breaks My Heart" (Front Row At Louis Vuitton, Mentions The Brand 19 Times In His Lyrics)

And that's the problem with quotes. Make a statement as a celebrity, and the quote will stick. The years will pass (and your image might change), but the original quote lingers forever. "Fashion breaks my heart," Kanye has said.

"Break records at Louis/Ate breakfast at Gucci."

Break his heart it might, but Kanye now seems to live for fashion. Yeezy now has full-blown fashion shows, and Kanye has probably name-dropped more designers than any other rapper. His lyrics mention Louis Vuitton 19 separate times, as Complex reports. Here he is, in the front row at the Paris Louis Vuitton Show.

12 "I Went To Paris On That Trip To Protect Her"

The harrowing 2016 robbery that will forever be a painful memory for Kim is one that made global headlines. Slam her all you like, but Kim's experience isn't something that anybody should ever have to go through. Kim broke down in tears on The Ellen Show when recalling the robbery. Kanye admitted to feeling "helpless" during the incident. "You're feeling like what else can you do," People reports. Unfortunately, Kanye's phrasing didn't paint him in the best light.

"I went to Paris on that trip to protect her. Not to protect her physically, but to go and just help her with her looks,"

In hindsight, it sounds just a tad shallow.

11 Kim: Kanye "Smells Like Money. Rich. I Can't Explain It"

Kanye might make bizarre-sounding statements, but Kim isn't far behind. In many ways though, it's what makes us love her. In 2018, Kim found a new way to profess her love for Kanye. It wasn't his talent, his music or his style. It was his scent.

That's the Kardashians for you. KKW Beauty might offer sandalwood fragrances, but Kim's favourite scent seems to be money.

"He smells...Rich. I can't explain it, but like a rich person," Kim told The Cut. "Like...money. I don't know! He smells like what you think a really expensive, Saint Laurent fragrance campaign would be."

Oddly, Kylie's boyfriend, Travis Scott is now the face of Saint Laurent.

10 "Yeezy Will Hit A Billion Dollars This Year"

Hitting a billion dollars as a Kardashian used to be a fantasy. With the 2018 news that Kylie Jenner is worth $900 million though, the billion-dollar horizon is all too real for this family. "Yeezy will hit a billion dollars this year," Kanye has claimed.

"It is a unicorn on its way to becoming a decacorn."

When GQ analyzed this claim, the magazine had no choice but to call the statement "unlikely– but not impossible."

Kanye's Yeezy line now sells footwear, clothing, and it's set to conquer homeware. Yeezy couch, anyone?

9 "I Don't Even Listen To Rap. My Apartment Is Too Nice To Listen To Rap In"

This one is straight-up hilarious statement, particularly since it's from a rapper. In 2013, Complex ran an article on rappers who claim they don't listen to rap. Interestingly, the list included Lupe Fiasco, Lil B, 2 Chainz, and DMX (although to be fair, DMX couldn't name his 15 children during a radio interview). "I don't even listen to rap," Kanye told DJ Semtex, according to Complex.

"My apartment is too nice to listen to rap in. I have to be in a more grimy environment to turn any rap music on."

Considering that Kanye now shares a $60 million California mansion with Kim, as People reports, it's unlikely that their environment is even remotely "grimey."

8 "You Should Only Believe 90% Of What I Say"

Most statement-makers stand behind their words. Kanye? He's a different breed. With Kanye, it's all about the riddles. His 2013 interview with W Magazine might have had promoting a collab with Jay-Z as its agenda, but it didn't come without its quotes. Kanye didn't just state that 90% of his words are "not to be believed." He went as far as to say that nothing he says should be "believed at all."

"As a matter of fact, don't even believe anything that I'm saying at all,"

Kanye said, as Capital FM reports. "I could be completely [messing] with you, and the world, the entire time."

7 Kim: "I Ask His Opinion On Everything"

If Kim and Kanye are anything, it's a partnership. They have three kids together, they make appearances together, and above all, they collaborate. In 2015, Kim credited Kanye for transforming her style. "I ask his opinion on everything," she said, as reported by Bustle. She added,

"Kanye sees what's out there on the streets and just knows how to translate it into something that would look good on me."

Now, 100% a Yeezy model, Kim indeed seems to have listened to Kanye's every word.

6 "If You're A Kanye West Fan, You're Not A Fan Of Me. You're A Fan Of Yourself"

The internet has literal websites dedicated to this bizarre quote. Ariana Grande thanks her fans with signed coffee cups. Lady Gaga calls her fans "Little Monsters." Kanye? His fans are "fans of themselves."

It's riddle time again. Let's back up –  if we're fans of Kanye, we're actually fans of ourselves? Can somebody please explain that?

"If you are a fan of Kanye West, you are a fan of yourself," Kanye has said. The lyrics debunking website Genius explains this as fandom being about "self-improvement and gaining mass confidence." Well, it's definitely a confident statement. Ultimately though, does it make sense?

5 "Study Me Closely, Because When I'm Not Smiling, I May Be Smiling On The Inside"

This is a pic from Kanye West's 40th birthday. The family gathered for a family meal. Fan comments quickly poured in regarding Kanye's "miserable" face, though. In 2015, Kanye explained that his smile (or lack thereof) isn't always what it seems. "You know the paparazzi, always coming up to me, 'Why you not smiling?'" Kanye said, as E Online reports. He continued:

"And I think, not smiling makes me smile. When you see paintings in an old castle, people are not smiling because it just wouldn't look as cool."

Kanye has separately said that he should be "studied closely." Apparently, if we study him closely enough, we'll notice that he's "smiling on the inside."

4 Ellen: "What Do You Do When No One Is Looking?" Kanye: "Smile"

Ellen Degeneres has a knack for asking the best questions (and just letting the guest do the talking). In 2018, Kim appeared on The Ellen Show to discuss the Khloe and Tristan drama. She called the whole thing "[messed] up." When Kanye appeared on the show, he didn't give much away.

Oh, Ellen, you hit the nail on the head every time. Ellen even made Kim play "Is Kanye Happy Or Not Happy?"

"What do you do when no one is looking?" Ellen asked. Kanye might be a man of many words on Twitter, but in interviews, he's pretty quiet. "Smile," was his response, as Mashable reports.

We didn't see it, though (well, he wasn't alone, was he?).

3 Kim: Posting Pics "Gets Her Into Trouble" With Kanye

In November 2018, Kim revealed that those risqué Instagram posts of hers are getting her "into trouble" with Kanye. Speaking on The Ellen Show, Kim said that "too many photos like that" are upsetting Kanye. Remember, this is the woman who literally doesn't hold back when it comes to showing her body.

"I was going to ask if [pictures like] that bothered him," Ellen asked, as People reports. "Yeah, it does," Kim replied. "You know, it's like half-and-half," she added:

"Because, you know, he always wants me to be me and feel confident and [have] fun, but it also bothers him."

A handful of a husband, indeed.

2 Kanye: "I'm This Generation's Disney"

Most celebs aspire to getting an invitation from Disney. Either that, or they do the normie thing and take their kids to Disneyland. Kanye West has spent most of 2018 filling his Twitter account with #Headline statements.

Alongside tweeting that he is "this generation's Disney" (and Steve Jobs), Kanye tweeted that he no longer has a manager. "I can't be managed."

Kanye maintains on Twitter that there has "never been a Disney or Apple of apparel and now there is. We are hiring the greatest technical and industrial designers in the world to deliver the highest level of product to all class."

That might be true, but his wild statements and egotistical declarations are starting to sound ridiculous.

1 "I Love Sleep. It's My Favourite" (Fair Enough)

We all need sleep. Whether you pull shifts at Wendy's, run an office or happen to be running the Yeezy empire, sleep is important. How and where Kanye chooses to sleep might make him a bit of a handful, but at least the guy is honest about it.

"I love sleep. It's my favourite," Kanye has said. Kim has said that Kanye "can fall asleep anywhere," as Entertainment Tonight reports. Kim added,

"My first fashion dinner when he was introducing us to people, they hardly spoke English and we were in France and [Kanye fell] asleep at the dinner table in a restaurant."

In this pic, a seemingly exhausted Kanye appeared to have fallen asleep with North (also asleep) in the background.
