Selena made headlines for producing Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why, a controversial teen drama that focuses on a teen girl’s suicide and the bullying that drove her to make her fatal decision. Though the show received positive reviews, it also received severe backlash from those who alleged it promoted or could even trigger self-harm.
The star indirectly responded to the controversy by defending the script, saying they stayed true to the book it’s based on. "We stayed very true to the book and that's initially what Jay Asher created – a beautifully tragic, complicated yet suspenseful story – and I think that's what we wanted to do,” she said.
She added, "[Backlash] is going to come no matter what,” saying that she’s proud of the show regardless. However, many still feel that the show was more graphic than the original book.

Selena really wants to be the only Selena Gomez in the industry. Back in March, TMZ reported the singer was filing the legal paperwork necessary to trademark her name.

But this also means no one can do a live TV or movie appearance, distribute music, or make any sort of promotions using her name. Pretty much, Selena wants to make sure no one uses her name and that her famous name stays solely her own. We can’t blame her for wanting to secure her empire, but it seems a bit shady that she’d go to such lengths to protect her name.

Selena shocked the world when she announced she had a kidney transplant this past summer without telling barely anyone. Her best friend Francia Raisa was her donor, but both girls kept the surgery under wraps from the public as well as a lot of their famous friends.
Tons of fans noticed Sel was on the down low when the surgery must have taken place, which prompted her to release a statement. “I’m very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of,” she wrote. “So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering.
She added, “It was what I needed to do for my overall health. I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you. A few weeks back, a source came forward that claimed Selena has a hard time trusting her boyfriend The Weeknd. They say it’s because of her past bad experiences with dating (aka Justin Bieber). But it doesn’t sound like these two are as solid of a couple as fans have been led to believe.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West shut Taylor Swift down when they released footage of the singer approving the lyrics to Kanye’s hit “Famous,” which she would later claim she had no idea about. Selena is one of Tay’s closest friends, so it was no surprise she defended her amid the drama. But it was the way she did it that didn’t sit right with many fans.
Selena complained that people should worry about more important things. “There are more important things to talk about Why can’t people use their voice for something that f—ing matters?” she tweeted. “Truth is, last thing we need right now is hate, in any form. This industry is so disappointing yet the most influential smh.” Afterwards, she faced a lot of heat from fans who pointed out that her bestie was wrong in the ongoing feud, and that indeed does matter.
