Selena Gomez is truly America's sweetheart. The former Disney star, who became super famous starring on the show Wizards Of Waverly Place from 2007 until 2012, has done a lot in her young life. She's an amazing double threat and has found incredible success as both a singer and an actress. She has released two albums as a solo artist and three albums as part of a band called Selena Gomez and the Scene. She has also starred in movies like The Big ShortMonte CarloRamona and Beezus, and Spring Breakers.

The latter movie role was definitely a shock for people since it's always pretty wild to see a former Disney kid becoming more of a young woman. Selena Gomez doesn't seem to really care what people think, though, and that's honestly the best way to be. Whether we're listening to her cool songs like "Fetish" or watching the Netflix drama 13 Reasons Why which Selena and her mom produced, we're always big fans.

No matter how much you adore Selena Gomez, how much do you really know about her? Chances are, there are some things that you just don't know. Check out these 15 things that even die-hard fans don't know about the singer and actress!

15 She's Been Seen Hanging Out With Her Ex Justin Bieber

OMG. That's really the only legit response to this news, right? We all loved the time when Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez were a thing. They were a super cute couple, if an on-again, off-again one.

In the past week, news has broken that Selena and The Biebs have been hanging out and grabbing breakfast. People are totally freaking out and wondering if that means that they're back together. Vanity Fair published a story called "Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, and the Unexpected Breakfast Of Intrigue" which is just the best and most hilarious headline ever. The exes are also going to church these days. So what's the deal? Is love in the air for them once again? There's no official news yet, but hopefully they'll get back together. We're always going to be shipping these two.

14 She Canceled Her 2013 World Tour Due To Her Lupus Illness

For a while, Selena wasn't super public about the fact that she has struggled with lupus, but now the news is out and she has been sharing her story. She canceled her world tour back in 2013 because of her illness.

It wasn't until October 2015 that Selena went public about what had happened and why she canceled. She said in an interview about why she was so private about it: "I think it was just very complicated because I didn’t understand and then that was something that I did want to keep private until my whole life suddenly wasn’t private.” She has had chemo and has gone through a super long recovery process, and we definitely feel for the singer and actress. This past summer, she had a kidney transplant.

13 She Fired Her Mom As Momager

Selena and her mom, Mandy Teefey, are super close. They bonded over Jay Asher's popular young adult novel 13 Reasons Why and loved it so much that they brought it to Netflix. They were both executive producers of the resulting Netflix series. For a while, Mandy was Selena's manager (aka her momager) but Selena actually ended up firing her.

While this sounds like the impetus for some major family drama, it wasn't a big deal. It sounds like it was literally just because Selena was getting older and felt she needed to do it. As Selena told Elle magazine, "It's like when a kid goes to college. I wanted to make decisions for myself. It was time. In all aspects of my life." Makes a ton of sense.

12 She Actually Drinks Olive Oil

Singers have all kinds of quirks and they do all kinds of things that they swear help with their voice. We've probably heard some singers say that they can't drink a lot of milk or eat a lot of dairy because it's not great for their voice. Selena Gomez has her own unique way of preserving her beautiful voice: she drinks olive oil.

Yup. She actually drinks the stuff. So when does she drink olive oil? She has said that she does this before she starts a performance. She once told The Associated Press, "This may sound gross, but sometimes I drink a little bit of olive oil. It tastes terrible, but it coats your throat so it's really good for the vocal chords." Yeah, we're not going to lie: it does sound a bit gross. We're not sure that we would be down with drinking some oil. But, hey, if it works, it works, and she obviously has an amazing voice.

11 She's A Game of Thrones Fan

If you're crossing your fingers that you have something in common with Selena Gomez, here's some really good news: the singer is a huge fan of Game of Thrones. Stars: they're just like us.

In fact, Selena has said that she's totally obsessed, which, again, we can relate to. We all are, right? We're not sure that it's even possible to be a casual viewer of this show. We're either completely into it or we're not even watching it at all. There is just no in-between. As she said in an interview with Elle magazine, "I want to be Khaleesi. Who doesn’t?... I think Jon Snow is very attractive." Now we're wishing even more that we could be BFFs with Selena and hang out and watch Game of Thrones together. It could happen, couldn't it?

10 Her Mom Was Pregnant At 16

When Mandy had Selena, she was only 16 years old, and in several interviews, Selena has been open about their family story. She has talked about how her mom didn't have a lot of money and that there were a lot of hard times.

It's really great that Selena remembers where she came from and that she's not super into the whole Hollywood thing. It would be pretty understandable if she decided that she wanted to forget all about her past and just move on and focus on how amazing her life is today. But she's not like that. She's a really genuine girl and she wants to be honest and real about her life story. That's honestly why she has so many fans and why her career will continue to soar.

9 She's An Only Child

Did you know that Selena Gomez is an only child? It makes sense since she and her mom are super close. There's just something special about that mother/daughter bond and sometimes it seems like that happens the most when there's just one kid. Think Lorelai and Rory on Gilmore Girls.

If any of us are only children, we know that we've heard all the annoying, insulting things, like that we're spoiled brats who are used to getting everything that we want. But people are going to say whatever they want, right? There are all kinds of stereotypes out there whether someone is an only child or a middle or oldest child. We can tell that Selena is a really cool girl and that she's absolutely not spoiled.

8 She And Her Mom Were Poor

Selena Gomez told Elle magazine all about living in a poor area in L.A. with her mom when she was growing up. She said, "We couldn't leave at times. It was scary. I think there's a lot of stuff my mom doesn't tell me out of the kindness of her heart, because she's been through so much in her life."

Awww. That just tugs at all of our heartstrings, doesn't it? It's really sweet to see how close Selena and her mom are and how much they care about each other. That's another refreshing thing about her: she's so genuine. She is legitimately close to her family and honestly acts like a regular person who cares about the people in her life. We love that about her and that's yet another reason why we love her so much.

7 She's Into Horror Movies

If any of us are big time horror movie fans, we can jump for joy because it turns out that Selena Gomez is totally into that genre, too.

It's always fun to find out about the pop culture habits of our favorite celebrities. We can't help but freak out when we learn that they like something that we do, too. Maybe that's because our lives are so totally and completely different that it's just nice to have something in common, even if it's just a favorite TV show or genre of film. A few years ago, Selena Gomez was interviewed by Pop Mania and said, "I feel like I love scary things. I love getting scared. So, I find myself putting myself in situations like haunted houses, or going to haunted hospitals for my birthday — yes I’ve actually done that. I kinda like the idea of being scared, I don’t know why."

6 She Dated Nick Jonas Before The Biebs

We tend to think that Selena has had one great love in her life and that's (of course) Justin Bieber. But she has also dated Nick Jonas.

It was a long time ago so some of us might not know that. It seems like the two ended things on a very positive and friendly note. When Selena shared that she had a kidney transplant this past summer, Nick Jonas had some really sweet and supportive things to say. He said in an interview on SiriusXM's Hits 1, "I was as surprised as everyone else when I woke up and saw her Instagram. But wow, just incredible. And the strength she's shown through all that's amazing and inspiring. And I'm pumped for her. I'm happy to see that she's doing well, it seems, and that she was able to get the surgery. And her friend helping her was a beautiful thing, so it's all amazing." Awwww. We totally hope that all exes could speak like that.

5 She Wore A Purity Ring For A While

It doesn't seem like Selena Gomez is wearing a purity (also called a promise) ring anymore, but for a while, she was. She had a ring that said "True Love Waits."

Now that you know that Selena dated Nick Jonas before she dated The Biebs, here's another fun fact: it turns out that she and Nick wore the same purity rings. It's pretty refreshing to learn this since so many young stars are totally oversexed and they're not really the best role models for younger fans who look up to them and want to be them. Selena has done a great job changing up her image because while she's definitely got a more mature brand these days, it wasn't a huge change that happened overnight, so fans had some time to get used to it. That's really the dream scenario.

4 She And Demi Lovato Were On Barney

One of the coolest fun facts about Selena Gomez is that she was on Barney... and that Demi Lovato was actually her co-star. Yes, really.

When Selena was interviewed by Scholastic once, she said that she literally got the job from an audition and that it was the only time that she had ever acted. She was on two entire seasons of the show. It seems like Selena and Demi would be the very best of friends thanks to that shared experience... right? Well, not so fast. Apparently the two of them have had some hard times, mostly when Selena and Taylor Swift started becoming good friends. Nothing like a friend triangle to get the drama going. It's kind of nice to see that even famous people have friend problems. We definitely can relate to that.

3 She Was Bullied As A Kid

It sounds like Selena Gomez has a pretty sweet life and that her career has always been smooth sailing, especially since she started her acting career by starring on Barney. As it turns out, she had some rough times too, mostly because when she was a kid, she was bullied.

It seems crazy to think about anyone bullying Selena Gomez because, come on, just look at her. She's beautiful, she's sweet, she's smart, and she's amazing. Unfortunately, kids are always going to be kids and sometimes they are just super cruel and that's just the way that it is. Selena has talked a lot about the culture of bullying thanks to her work on 13 Reasons Why. As she told the New York Times,  "I think [Asher] understood that I knew what it meant to be bullied. I went to the biggest high school in the world, which is the Disney Channel. And my mom had a lot of history dealing with [bullying]. I heard her stories growing up. She's very open about it."

2 She's A Britney Spears Fan

Selena Gomez absolutely loves Britney Spears and has said in interviews that Britney's video for her song "I'm A Slave 4 U" was so great. How come? She loves that Britney changed her brand from being more of a good girl to someone older.

She told MTV, "I think she's one of the best that made that transition. That video ["Slave 4 U"] is so hot, it's incredible, so I love that, and I definitely wanted to do that with my transition, but I don't think there's a path you have to follow. I think you just have to figure it out and hope for the best, so if it has a similarity, that's only a compliment." People have said that Selena has made a similar switch in her career since she was originally a Disney star. She's definitely done an awesome job.

1 She Has A Unique Morning Ritual

Most stars have something that they do every single day when they wake up. Morning routines of the rich and famous are always kind of fascinating, right? We're always reading about how celebrities are starting their days with lemon water (usually hot) or a specific kind of tea or maybe a smoothie full of superfoods. It's never a bad idea to have some healthy habits that ground you and make you feel more awake and ready for the day.

Selena Gomez has a pretty unique morning ritual: as reported in Vogue, she eats ginger or  While we might not want to swap our morning cup of coffee for some ginger, it might be something worth looking into. Hey, if it works for this amazing singer, maybe it'll work for us, too...
