The past year has been big for celebrity babies. Celebrity baby watch is a real thing, but every now and then a star surprises us, whether by having twins at 56 - yes, we're talking about you George, or sometimes by hiding their pregnancy almost completely; this year Rachel McAdams basically vanished and then welcomed a baby boy, nearly keeping her pregnancy a secret for nine months, minus a few paparazzi shots! Mindy Kaling tried to keep her pregnancy private too, but Oprah let it slip and Cardi B even shocked us on TV; these are the surprising pregnancies that we didn't see coming!
15 Cardi B Announces Pregnancy On Live TV
Cardi B made headlines several times this week. She not only released a new music video for "Be Careful" this week, which fans and Cosmopolitan called "very interesting," but also had a scary moment with her fiancé this week as well. Cardi B's fiancé, Offset, was in an accident this week that left his car wrecked and had him hospitalized. The rapper swerved while driving and hit a tree. According to People, Offset said, "I could have been dead from this accident."
People also reports that a pregnant Cardi B met Offset at the hospital and later announced that she was "grateful and happy," as her fiancé and the father of her first child survived the crash.
Cardi B took to SNL to officially announce her pregnancy back in April, after months of speculations and supposed "leaks." According to Harper's Bazaar, Cardi B revealed a baby bump during her performance on the show; the singer had been shutting down pregnancy rumors telling people that she was "getting fat," and asking that people, to "let [her] fat in peace." According to People, Cardi B posted a video of Offset rubbing her baby bump following the accident, which she captioned, "I love you. You so strong!" This is the first baby for the singer, Cardi B, while Offset is already a parent.
14 Kirsten Dunst Brings It On With Baby Bump
Kirsten Dunst, famous for her roles in movies Bring It On, Spiderman, Mona Lisa Smile, and more, recently revealed that at 35, she's taking on a new role, that of a mother! According to Today, Kirsten Dunst and her fiancé welcomed a baby boy last week! Kristen and her fiancé, Jesse Plemons, famous for his roles in Breaking Bad and Fargo, are excited about their new bundle of joy. According to Marie Claire, last summer the star opened up about having babies, saying, "It's time to have babies and chill. I wasn't one of those 'I need a baby!' people until my goddaughter was born. I love her so much. That love is just like...you can't experience that unless you have a kid...That's what I want." The star got what she wanted! Kirsten made headlines this week after selling her home in Soho for over $4 million dollars, the star had also told Marie Claire in their July issue that LA has a lot of pressure to look a certain way, but in Austin, "no one cares." Her fiancé is from Texas and the couple spends a lot of time in Austin. We're wondering if the star sold her Soho home to start a quiet family life down South! Harper's Bazaar reports that Kirsten and Jesse named their son Ennis, meaning island.
13 Rachel McAdams Welcomes Baby, And It's About Time!
Rachel McAdams made headlines when, this year, at 39, the star welcomed her first child, with her boyfriend. According to Daily Mail, Rachel and boyfriend, Jamie Linden, have been together for two years. Daily Mail reported that Rachel said this about motherhood almost a decade ago, "Having a few [kids] would be great. I'm looking forward to it someday. My mom is a great inspiration to me. She's a nurse and very nurturing and gentle. She lets me be who I am. Hopefully, I can take on those qualities and be as great as her." Daily Mail also reported that Rachel told InStyle
"Part of me is very attached to the idea of having children. It'll depend on if I find the person I want to do that with."
It looks like Rachel found the right person! E! News reported that Rachel and Jaime welcomed a baby boy back in April, but are laying low, not releasing the baby's name or any photos, which shouldn't be a surprise, considering Rachel managed to keep her pregnancy secret for so long. According to People, "The last time McAdams appeared at a public event was at the Toronto International Film Festival in early September 2017."
12 Julia Stiles Has A Prince Of Her Own
Julia Stiles, famous for her roles in 10 Things I Hate About You, The Prince & Me, and The Bourne Series, recently welcomed a baby boy with her husband! The star is 37 years old and surprised fans by posting an Instagram about her "shotgun wedding" back in September. The star took to Instagram to post a picture of her husband's hand on her baby bump. The star welcomed a son, Strummer, in October. Stiles got a lot of attention back in December when fans started commenting on a picture of her and Strummer, where they accused her of holding him improperly. According to People, Julia Stiles said this, "It was brought to my attention that in the previous photo I am not holding my baby correctly. Wow, I didn't expect that. What was supposed to be a shout out of products I like suddenly becomes an invitation to comment on my baby, and my ability as a mother. That's the internet for you..." We think Julia is doing alright, except maybe with son, Strummer's, name! People reports her parents agree! Stiles said, "Both sets of grandparents don't like the name that we came up with. But they're gonna get over it."
11 John Stamos Welcomes Son For A Fuller House
Uncle Jesse, from Full House, is finally a dad! The 54-year-old star, John Stamos, welcomed a son this year and finally became a father for the first time, after years of waiting! Stamos, welcomes son Billy, with wife Caitlin McHugh. The two had been together for about two years, and according to People, John said this,
"The [pregnancy] happened. Then I said, I better have a ring on her finger because it's the right thing to do, and I wanted to marry her anyway. So I called her parents to ask, and it was like, 'You better!"
Stamos took to Instagram to welcome his son, captioning a sweet photo, "From now on, the best part of me will always be my wife and my son. Welcome, Billy Stamos..." In the words of Uncle Jesse, "Have mercy!" That's seriously the cutest way to welcome newborn baby, Billy! Uncle Jesse isn't just an uncle anymore, now he's a dad and husband too! We're wondering if Caitlin told John with a baby-themed meal, like when Aunt Becky told Uncle Jesse?! John Stamos also told People, "I cry a lot. It's more beautiful than anyone told me it would be. I've been waiting a long time."
10 Mindy Kaling And The Baby Project
Mindy Kaling gave birth to a daughter, Katherine, back in December. Kaling has yet to share any photos of her daughter, or reveal who the daddy is! Mindy might have kept her pregnancy a secret if it weren't for Oprah spilling the baby beans! Vanity Fair reported that Mindy said this about Oprah revealing her pregnancy, "If anyone was going to announce big news about your private life, Oprah Winfrey is the person." According to Us Weekly, Kaling said this about becoming a mom years before she ever did, "I think I've decided unlike everything else in my life, I'm going to be fast and loose about kids. I'm not going to not actively plan, but if it happens, it would happen. I'm not cavalier about who I would have a kid with. But the thing I ask every parent that I really admire, the one comment they all have is that they wish they had kids earlier." The star welcomed her baby at 38 and is enjoying all the worrying that motherhood brings. She told Today, "I knew how much I would love her and love the experience of being with her. I never understood how much I would worry and how much that worry is unceasing. Happiness for me, now, is just a feeling of relief. I'm in a constant state of worry but I'm enjoying it too."
9 George Clooney Welcomes Twins, Alex And Emma, At 56
George Clooney and Amal Clooney made headlines in the last few weeks; they were one of the best-dressed couples at the MET gala and were guests at the royal wedding this past weekend too. Today, we're looking at their twins, who happened to skip the gala and the royal wedding, although some did joke they were hiding under Amal's MET gala gown. As for the wedding, we think they'd distract the Queen with all that crying, but George says otherwise. George Clooney waited until 56 to become a dad. He recently opened up about fatherhood and having kids late in life, telling Daily Mail,
"They don't cry. I cry more than they do. I cry four times a day right now because I'm so tired."
"All of this is icing on the cake. Look, I'm 56 years old and I didn't think it was going to happen for me. I thought my life would be focused on my career, not relationships, and I'd sort of accepted that. And then I met Amal and I thought, 'Well, I have this incredible relationship, this is wonderful.'" George was a Hollywood playboy before settling down. He dated actresses, models, waitresses, and ended up with Amal, a lawyer! According to Town & Country, George got a call from his agent the day he met Amal, "I met this woman who is coming to your house, who you're going to marry." The pair married less than a year later, and now have twins, which was also a surprise!
8 Kylie Is Keeping Up With Diapers, Delivers Baby At 20
Although we speculated for what felt like years about Kylie being pregnant, the world was kind of shocked when she officially announced she was a mom at 20 years old! The star welcomed baby Stormi back in February. She took to Instagram to fill in her fans, "I'm sorry for keeping you in the dark through all the assumptions. I understand you're used to me bringing you along on all my journeys. My pregnancy was one I chose not to do in front of the world. I knew for myself I needed to prepare for this role of a lifetime in the most positive, stress free, and healthy way I knew how...Pregnancy has been the most beautiful, empowering, and life changing experience I've ever had in my entire life and I'm actually going to miss it." The world was shocked when Kylie finally confirmed what we were all wondering. Even sister Kendall admitted that she was surprised that Kylie became a mom so early on. Kendall interviewed Lana Del Ray for Elle Magazine and mentioned this during the interview, "It's obviously a bit weird that your little sister is having a baby before you. I didn't expect it to happen like this. But it's beautiful. It brought us closer together. We've always been very close, but we would butt heads all the time. This had made her a bit more loving toward me."
7 Serena Williams Welcomes A Little Loved One
This week Serena Williams made headlines for wearing sneakers to the royal reception. We didn't expect to see Serena at the royal wedding, and likewise, we were surprised when the pro athlete announced that she was pregnant! Serena Williams and husband, Alexis Ohanian, welcomed a baby girl, Alexis Olympia, late last year! The gold medal athlete was 36 when her daughter arrived! The star recently opened up to People about finding out she was pregnant. Our first thought was the same as Serena's.
She said, "When I realized I was pregnant, I was like, 'Oh my God. How am I going to play?'"
The star made headlines this week, as fans and feminists alike feel as though the pro athlete is being punished for taking a maternity leave. According to Business Insider, "The [Women's Tennis Association] has a 'special ranking' rule that allows players who have gone on maternity leave to preserve their entry into tournaments, but not their world ranking. However, some have argued the rule punishes women whose ranking drop because they decided to have a child." Serena had complications after her pregnancy, which made her road to recovery even more difficult. Regardless of her current tennis ranking, Serena is living her best life, from becoming a first-time mom to being invited to the Royal Wedding.
6 Eva Longoria, Desperate For A Baby?
Eva Longoria, 43 and famous for her role on Desperate Housewives, is pregnant with her first child. Her and husband, José Antonio Bastón (Pepe), are getting ready to be parents to a baby boy; this will be Eva's first child and Pepe's fourth! According to People, Eva said this about meeting and falling in love with Pepe and their happily ever after, "I want to yell from the highest mountaintop about everything that goes on with us because I'm so happy and excited to be with a person as kind as Pepe is. He is probably one of the first men I've dated that's been older and established and, basically, a grown-up. It is so nice to be arm-in-arm with someone who is your equal." Longoria had high profile relationships with athletes and celebrities before meeting her equal! According to People, even tabloids were surprised with her pregnancy; Longoria joked about pregnancy rumors that plagued her for 20 years, "I had a burger and they're like, 'Eva's pregnant.' I had a pizza and they're like, 'Baby bump!' And finally, the tabloids came out and they were like, 'Eva's gained weight.' And I was like, 'I am pregnant!' They were like, 'Eva's fat.'" Eva and her husband are sure to make great parents, especially being each other's equal!
5 Jordin Sparks Takes Motherhood "One Step At A Time"
Jordin Sparks, American Idol star, took to Instagram at the beginning to the month to introduce the world to her newborn baby boy, DJ. She captioned an adorable photo, "He's here & we couldn't be more in love!!! Go DJ!"
Her next post was an adorable selfie of her and the newborn baby snuggling, captioned, "My new normal. I love it. Look at that face!"
Baby DJ seems to be smiling, laying on top of mom, Jordin. We're sure he's already gotten some soulful lullabies! Jordin and her husband, Dana Isaiah, got married over the summer and according to People are both, "really excited." Sparks said, "We're really proud to be married to each other and to be celebrating this." Dana is a model, and we're loving his and Jordin's model relationship. According to Allure, this week when Chrissy Teigen welcomed her son, Jordin showed her support on Instagram, commenting on Chrissy's picture. Chrissy posted a photo wearing mesh underwear, with her new baby in her arms, and Jordin commented, "Same boat! Adult diapers for the win! Congratulations on the little one!" Does this mean a play date for little DJ and Miles?! We can only hope!
4 Laura Prepon, Pink Is The New Black
Orange Is the New Black star Laura Prepon recently welcomed a baby girl! Laura, and fiancé, Ben Foster, are parents to daughter, Ella. The couple has known each other for basically forever. Laura recently opened up about motherhood and People reports; Laura said this, "Being a mom is the most incredible gift in the world and it's one of the hardest things, as we all can relate to, and we just have to help each other." Prepon is 38 years old and this is her first child. Us Weekly reports that Laura is a working mom and can't help but gush about her little one. Prepon said being a working mom is, "torture." She continues, "I went back to work at six weeks. I was directing when she was a 4-month-old. But she would be proud if she knew what I was doing." We're sure that Ella would be proud to know that mom and dad are both hard-working actors in Hollywood, and maybe it's something that she'll grow into too! According to People, Laura and Ben try to keep their private life private. Friend, Ashton Kutcher joked, "I get it. But private lives include friends!" The fellow That 70's Show star joked after finding out about Laura's engagement while getting off a plane! We're wondering if Laura, Mila, and Ashton have play dates, or if their kids do!
3 Pippa Middleton Pregnant With George, Charlotte, And Louis' Baby Cousin
We've all still got royal wedding fever! Way back when Kate and William got married, Pippa Middleton became an international celebrity; she carried Kate's train and the world wanted to know who she was and pictures of her went viral. Now, years later, her and husband, James Matthews, are getting ready to welcome their first child, who will be the cousin to William and Kate's royal babies, George, Charlotte, and Louis. Pippa, 34, attended Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding this past weekend and showed off a barely-there bump, opting out of wearing a maternity dress, according to People, as she's barely showing! She looked happy as she and James walked together.
According to People, Pippa Middleton and James Matthews celebrated their first wedding anniversary the day after Harry and Meghan's nuptials and now are awaiting their first child.
People also reports that Kate Middleton and sister, Pippa, shared a brief moment of pregnancy together before Kate delivered baby Louis; the sisters are obviously very close, having each carried one another's trains in their weddings. According to Vanity Fair, "Kate was the first person to hear of her sister's happy news." Pippa took after sister Kate, and now we're hoping that Harry takes after brother, William. We're wondering if Meghan and Harry will welcome a baby soon after Pippa - we hope so!
2 Khloe Welcomes True, After Years Of Waiting To Be Due
It's no secret that Khloe Kardashian has wanted a baby for years; the star tried to have a baby while with Lamar Odom. According to Refinery 29, Khloe said this about her and Lamar, "At the time, I was like, 'Oh I have to have a baby!' That's all I wanted at the time, and I thought it would maybe fix the situation [with Odom], so I'm also happy that it didn't happen because I was young. I was 27, and I thought, 'A baby will fix this,' and it's not going to fix that." Khloe and Lamar split before they announced a pregnancy, but now, years later Khloe has a newborn bundle of joy, baby True! Although a lot of drama surrounds Khloe's relationship with Tristan Thompson and the cheating allegations that followed as they became parents, we're happy that Khloe got the baby she wanted for so long! Some fans questioned if Khloe had lied about the fertility treatments she tried, while with Odom. According to Elite Daily, "[Khloe] was going through fertility treatments, but she wasn't committed to making a pregnancy happen with Odom. Instead, she let rumors spread that she was struggling with her own fertility issues when the problem was actually on Odom's end."
1 Rachel Weisz Is Definitely Maybe With A Baby
Okay, okay! Rachel Weisz is not actually a first-time mom, but this adorable recently debuted baby bump will be the first child for her and Daniel Craig, who have been married for seven years. It's a bit of a surprise that they're expecting their first baby together, as the stars are 48 and 50 years old! According to People, the star chatted with Stephen Colbert; she said, "Um, I think it's kind of visible, I guess, right?" And continued, "Too much pizza! Yes, I'm pregnant." The star announced her pregnancy on The Late Show and later told Good Morning America,
"I was feeling very dodgy for about four months, but the good bits kicked in."
The couple has been notoriously quiet about their personal lives, living a relatively quiet life in New York, considering they're both huge stars! According to People, Rachel didn't think she'd get married, but then she met Daniel. People reports that Rachel said this about meeting him, "It was not an ambition of mine. It was the opposite. I couldn't relate to romantic comedies - marriage seems to be the whole point of them. Then it just happened, happily, at a more mature moment."
