Kim Kardashian West has a beautiful family, and she and Kanye West have four children: five-year-old daughter North, three-year-old son Saint, one-year-old son Chicago, and baby Psalm. Kim welcomed her third and fourth children via surrogate because she has Placenta accreta. When a woman has this high-risk condition and she gives birth, the placenta becomes stuck.
Kim hired a surrogate named La'Reina Haynes for her third baby, Chicago, but no one is certain if she is the one who brought Psalm into the world as well.
We might have heard that Kim has had strict rules for her surrogates, and we might be wondering what some of them are. From food to lifestyle factors, there are many things that her surrogates can and can't do.
Here are 15 strict rules that Kim Kardashian's surrogates had to follow.
15 Saunas And Spa Tubs Are A No-Go
Cheatsheet.com says that spa tubs and saunas aren't something that Kim's surrogate can use.
While this is part of the strict list of rules, it's true that all pregnant women are advised not to be near super warm water. According to Healthline, "During pregnancy, your body temperature shouldn’t rise above 102.2°F (39°C). That can easily occur if you spend more than 10 minutes in a ... tub with a water temperature of 104°F (40°C)."
14 Organic Food Only, Please
Another one of Kim's rules has to do with food. We know that pregnant women should eat healthily, but we might think that saying that a surrogate has to eat organic food might be a bit too strict.
According to Page Six, "The mom of three also wanted her carrier to eat organically" and Kim said about this, “which is just how she eats, so it was a good match for us."
13 People Wonder If Kim Wanted Her Surrogate To Eat Healthily With No Junk Food
Preggo women crave a lot more than just ice cream (despite that being the most popular craving). Since Kim has talked about wanting her surrogate to eat organic food, people wonder if that means that she doesn't want her surrogate to eat junk food.
As In Style says, "Sources told People that Kardashian was 'super adamant' that the surrogate stuck to a healthy diet."
12 No Bedroom Activity At Certain Points
Kim's rules for her surrogate also say no getting busy at certain points, which does seem on the strict side since it involves telling someone something so personal.
Cheatsheet.com says that there should be none of that business "in the weeks leading up to the pregnancy" and "for 3 weeks following embryo implantation."
11 Don't Go Near Cat Litter
According to Cheatsheet.com, Kim's rules for her surrogate also say not to go near cat litter.
At first, this seems to be a really rigid rule... but here's why: according to Baby Center, pregnant women can get an infection called toxoplasmosis from a cat's fecal matter. This can be dangerous for the baby.
10 Visit Kim's Doctor
Page Six says that Kim wants her surrogate to visit her doctor.
Like all of the rules on this list, this might seem really strict and like something that you shouldn't ask your surrogate to do. But it does make some sense, right? You want to feel comfy with the situation and if you really love the doctor that you have, you would probably do the same thing.
9 Don't Even Think About Getting That Hair Colored
Cheatsheet.com mentions that getting hair color done is another thing that Kim's surrogate can't do.
This is a subjective thing and you have to do what feels right to you. As Am. Pregnancy says, "Although fairly limited, most research indicates the chemicals found in both semi-permanent and permanent dyes are not highly toxic and are safe to use during pregnancy."
8 Say No To Unhealthy Habits
There are many unhealthy habits that Kim has noted as part of her rules for her surrogate. These are totally legit and they are what we generally consider to be big no-nos for pregnant women.
While some people might think that Kim has too many rules, it's definitely understandable that she wants to oversee the pregnancy.
7 The Surrogate Can Drink One Daily Coffee Only
Cheatsheet.com says that Kim wants her surrogate to drink one coffee daily only.
This is interesting because some people think that one coffee each day is totally fine to drink while pregnant and others say no caffeine at all. Am. Pregnancy suggests "one 12 oz cup of coffee" or "less than 200 mg per day" based on the March of Dimes recommendation.
6 Listen To Kanye's Tunes
It turns out that Kanye had a rule as well: according to Evoke.ie, Kanye wanted the surrogate to listen to his tunes. A source said, "Kanye believes hearing dad’s music in the womb will bond them."
Some of us might see this as a strict rule... and others might think that it sounds sweet.
5 Six Ounces Of Tuna Only (Seriously)
According to The Hollywood Gossip, Kim also said that her surrogate could eat six ounces of tuna only.
This rule is so incredibly specific and rigid that it might seem confusing to us... but The Hollywood Gossip says, "The weekly tuna 'allowance' is also because of the mercury found in tuna."
4 Kim And Kanye Went To The Doctor With Her
Page Six says that Kim and Kanye to the doctor with their surrogate. It seems like this was something that was important to her.
We can totally understand this since you would want to have that level of involvement. After all, if you were pregnant yourself, you would be going to those doctor's appointments, right?
3 The Surrogate Had No Idea It Was Kim's Baby (Until Kim Let Her Know)
At first, the surrogate didn't know that it was Kim's baby, and Kim decided to tell her.
Parents.com quoted Kim as saying, "You could do it totally anonymously. You could go that route." She continued, "What if they didn’t want to be carrying our baby? I wanted to give them that choice, and be proud and on the same page. I wanted a relationship with her."
2 Stay Away From Raw Fish
Romper says that Kim wanted her surrogate to stay away from raw fish.
Just like the rule about one coffee daily, this one is part of the pregnancy food advice that is generally given. Baby Center says "Because your immune system is suppressed during pregnancy (which helps your body not attack your growing baby), you're more susceptible to foodborne illnesses."
1 Give Birth In Los Angeles
According to Page Six, Kim also wanted her surrogate to give birth in Los Angeles.
We can totally get behind this rule since while it might seem strict, of course she and Kanye would want to be there for the birth. It's such a big moment in their family's life.
