This past week has been a very difficult one in the world of pop culture. Tuesday, August 16th will be a day that will forever go down in history... because that is the day that Justin Bieber, aka our most favorite and most adorable singer ever, deleted his Instagram. Immediately we were incredibly confused and a million thoughts were swirling through our heads. We hoped it wasn't true, but unfortunately, it seems like it is lasting. Justin was super fed up with getting comments on the platform because of his relationship with Sofia Richie (aka Lionel Richie's daughter). That's not all, though: he and his ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez got into a bit of a comment war. She thought it was silly for him to put up Insta photos of his new girl, and seemed to accuse him of cheating on her, and then he went right back and accused her of cheating (with someone we might have heard of named Zayn...) Here are 15 reactions we all had when Justin Bieber deleted his Instagram. Now excuse us while we mourn the death of The Bieb's amazing social media account. We might need a moment (or three).

15 Confusion

When we first heard the news, we were incredibly confused. We did not think we were reading it right, whether we first heard about it on Twitter or in a news article. Or maybe our BFF texted us a bunch of sad emojis and we thought something was seriously wrong until she told us the truth: Justin deleted his amazing Instagram account. Okay, she was right. Because now something really is seriously wrong. We were just so confused, we did not know what to think or do. Would this be permanent? Was he just blowing off steam? Was he just mad at Selena because, as everyone knows, he is probably secretly still in love with her and they should just admit it and get back together already? We do not like being so confused about someone that we care so much about, so this wasn't a great day for us.

14 Disbelief

Confusion then turned into disbelief. We just could not imagine living in a world where Justin Bieber no longer has an Instagram account. This seemed like such a hard truth to swallow, because it just did not seem like something that he would actually do. Doesn't he love Instagram? Doesn't he adore posting about a million selfies every single day of his new hairstyles? Why does he even change up his hair so much if he's not going to post them for his fans to see? Does he hate his fans? Why? Why does he hate us so much? He decided a few months ago that he would no longer be taking photos with his fans because he's now being more careful about his privacy, but does he really think that the fans wouldn't be upset if he deleted his Instagram? Justin, if you're reading this, we miss your selfies.

13 Denial

Then we reacted with a ton of denial. We just didn't think that this was really happening and that this was really real life. How could it possibly be? Didn't he understand that people would be really upset about this and that they would want to keep following his life on the platform? We kept refreshing his page and even though we keep getting an error kind of message that proved that there was literally nothing on that page anymore, we just couldn't believe that. We just kept going to his Instagram page, hoping that it wouldn't really be true, and hoping that it was all just a sad joke or a bad dream or something like that. To be totally and completely honest, we've had a few days to process the news but we're still pretty much in denial now. We just don't know how this can be true, and we don't want to accept it.

12 Sadness

Then we became totally sad. Like really, really sad. At first, we felt kind of silly and stupid because how could we possibly be so sad about something that seems like it doesn't matter? But the truth is that we cared a lot about keeping up with Justin Bieber because we like to know what's going on in the lives of the pop culture hero that we worship. That may sound totally melodramatic but honestly, it's the truth. These people are so fun and they inspire us and motivate us on a daily basis since they're out there in the world, being awesome and following their own dreams and goals, and we want to do that, too. Plus there's just the enjoyment and entertainment factor. That's why we keep up with the Kardashians, after all. So we're finding this pretty sad and we're really wishing that it wasn't the case.

11 Despair

Sadness sometimes crosses over into despair, and it's never a fun thing, but this definitely happened when we first heard the news that our beloved Biebs deleted his Instagram account. We felt a crazy amount of despair. Again, it might seem melodramatic, and maybe it is (okay, it definitely is) but we have zero shame about this. After all, if we're not going to care that our favorite celebrities are deleting their social media accounts, then why do we even like them at all? Why do we watch their movies and TV shows and listen to their music and all that? If we're going to be fans, we're going to want to see them on social media, and we don't want to believe that we're never, ever going to see Justin on our favorite platform. That just doesn't seem fair and we're still so upset about it. We wish we could tell him that he can come back and we would welcome him with open arms.

10 Hope

Then we started feeling totally hopeful. We thought, no, this was just a drill or a joke or whatever else we wanted to call it. We started feeling pretty hopeful that Justin would realize this was a horrible, horrible mistake and that he would decide to reinstate his account. He's definitely going to miss his Instagram community. He's going to miss that interaction with his fans, and getting the chance to share his life and daily routine with everyone. After all, if he's not even going to be dealing with his fans on Instagram or taking photos with those fans when he meets them in person, isn't he going to feel kind of guilty and bad about that? We really think that he will. He's a good person. He cares about us, right? Yes. He totally and completely does. He's gotten where he is today thanks to his fans and he's not going to completely turn his back on us.

9 Anger

Then we became pretty angry, because seriously Justin, what's the deal here? Why would you possibly think that getting rid of your Instagram was a good idea? You have 77 million followers. Yes. 77 million. That's a pretty massive number of followers, which means that that's a whole lot of people that want to see what you have to say and what kind of photos you choose to post. You can't just think that no one cares about you. Also, let's talk for a moment about how you want to "stop the hate." You're claiming that your followers and fans are "haters" and that they want to be "mean" to you and make you feel bad. No, that couldn't possibly be further from the truth. Sure, a few people weren't super nice to you, and yes, you got into that Instagram spat with Selena. But that's just a couple of people out of those 77 million. That's honestly no big deal. So we're not super thrilled with you because we don't get why you're acting like it's so important to say goodbye to Instagram.

8 Disgust

Yes, then we became a little bit grossed out by Justin's attitude. Sorry Justin, we love you and we support you but yes, to quote the lovely words of your amazing hit single, it's a little late to say sorry right now. We're not on board with your belief that too many haters made you delete your Instagram account. We're just not. We don't understand why you're acting this way because the fact is that you're a famous person. You're a celebrity. You have tons and tons and tons of money and fame and followers and fans and resources and all that. You should be able to deal with some negative and unsupportive comments on your Instagram account. After all, you're kind of asking for it if you're a super wealthy and famous celebrity and you are living your life in the spotlight. This is not the best way to deal with your fame struggles.

7 Annoyance

Yes, Justin, we're a little bit annoyed with you right now. Okay, we're more than a little bit annoyed. To quote the words of the great Jessica Simpson from her judge role on the short-lived reality show Fashion Star, we're a "lot bit" annoyed (love you, Jessica). You have come so far and gone through so much in your short life. You have survived so many struggles and come out on top. Just think about your beautiful and amazing album Purpose. You swore that you found your purpose for living and that you had gone through something tough but had finally come out on the other side. You said you were sorry for messing up and making mistakes and essentially being a silly kid. So if you said all that, why are you doing this now? Why is it really necessary to delete your Instagram and make such a massive deal out of it? If you're a survivor, then this would be no big deal at all and you would have kept your account.

6 Empathy

Okay, okay, yes, Justin, we totally feel for you and we feel empathetic about your situation. We know that you have dealt with lots of issues surrounding your relationship with fame and that you are probably going through with something pretty tough right now. We understand that it can't be easy to be famous and have the entire world watching your every move. So when we first heard the news, we might have been mad and sad and all that, but then we became pretty empathetic. We tried to be as understanding and supportive as possible and we tried to see this situation from your point of view (as much as we can guess what you are going through, of course, since we don't exactly know you in real life... although that's a hard thing to admit). So we started feeling empathic towards you and we hoped you were okay.

5 Disappointment

We then became super disappointed in Justin Bieber because we just didn't know why he had to deal with this situation in this way. He has been through a lot and he has not always done the right thing (just think about any of his unfortunate actions over the past few years... yikes). So Justin, we just think that you could have been the bigger person and not have engaged with these people on Instagram or even continued to talk to Selena about it. You could have just posted a super positive and polite and friendly photo on your Instagram account and say that you understand that people are going to have opinions, but you want to keep things positive on your account. That would be easy to respect since you would be taking the high road. Don't you want to take the high road? You totally do, don't you?

4 Laughter

We then started laughing about the whole thing... both about the fact that a famous singer deleted his Instagram account in what seems like a fit of rage, and that we have been taking this so seriously. What does it say about us that we care this much about what a celebrity does on social media? Shouldn't we have more important and meaningful things to talk about and think about? But while we were laughing at ourselves and our many reactions to this pop culture news, we came to terms with the fact that we really do care about celebrities and entertaining, and that's okay. We all need some fun and levity in our lives because life can be super tough sometimes and we all get crazy busy and exhausted from working so hard and dealing with friends and family and boyfriends. So while we get that it's okay that we are such pop culture addicts, we can still see how silly and funny it is.

3 Thoughtfulness

Then we started to think carefully, long and hard about what this really means for the state of pop culture today. It's 2016 and celebrities are super into social media... along with the rest of us. While we can't seem to let a single day go by without tweeting what we're eating for lunch or Instagramming that food so we can get tons of likes and comments, celebrities seem to feel the same way about selfies. Celebs love their selfies and they love posting them on social media, Instagram in particular. So the fact that The Biebs deleted his Instagram might even be a good thing. We know, we know, we can't believe that we're saying this but maybe it's the truth. Maybe we can live without so many selfies (and so many hair selfies). Maybe we could stand to know a little bit less about the idols that we choose to worship. After all, things weren't always this way. Actors and singers used to be able to live their private lives and people didn't know everything about them. Maybe this is a step in a positive, good direction.

2 Respect

On that note, we then reacted in a surprising way: we started to think that we should respect Justin's decision. And we started to think that he honestly deserves a lot of pats on the back for doing this. It must have been pretty difficult, right, to admit that he wanted to protect himself? It's not always easy to admit that we're unhappy or having a tough time, and we should respect that The Biebs is always willing to admit his mistakes and talk about how things aren't always amazing for him. We can't be so naive as to think that just because he has money and fame and resources that he's happy 100 percent to the time or that he doesn't have anything going wrong in his life. We're going to respect him for doing a tough thing and admitting what's not right for him. We always hope that we can say when something or someone isn't good for us, right? That's why we dump our bad boyfriends or quit our crappy jobs.

1 Acceptance

Everyone knows that acceptance is the last stage of grief, and we can safely say that yes, we have been grieving over the past few days. We absolutely loved Justin's Instagram account. We enjoyed seeing what he was up to on a regular basis and we just thought this was a fun thing to have in the mix. We're going to miss seeing his selfies and his hair (yes, especially his hair) and we might even miss seeing his #throwbackthursday posts about his beloved Selena. But after being angry, being sad, being disappointed, and being super confused and even kind of grossed out, we then crossed over into total and complete acceptance. It's never easy to accept the truth, but that's the best thing to do. So we accepted it and that's how we still feel right now, even though it pains us to admit it. We're going to accept his decision, even if we might not agree with it. We think that we can live with it. Now we just have to find a new awesome account to follow...
