15 She was our friend so she won't haunt us

via pinterest.com

"When I was a kid and lived in my old apartment my mom befriended the downstairs neighbor and would often invite her over for coffee and tea because she was always so lonely. A few weeks went by without hearing from her so we both go downstairs and knock on the door, it was like a movie where when you knock the door slowly crept open as if it had been this way for a while. We walked inside and found her in the bathtub covered in blood and the smell was disgusting. Apparently the lady's girlfriend left her and she couldn't handle the pain. My moms way of comforting me was "don't worry, mark. She was our friend so she won't haunt us" gee thanks mom."

14 We booked it out of there just in time

via thoughtcatalog.com

"My best friend, her BF, and I went out camping in Sumpter National forest one night. It was raining and we were the only campers out there. We decided to sleep in the SUV. I read a bit of Scary Stories to Tell in The Dark until we decided to go to sleep. It was around midnight. The sound the rain was making outside sounded like footsteps. We were all pretty jumpy and I was convinced I could her someone outside. We turned on the headlights and I saw something move in the trees to the right of the car. James got out and took a flashlight to go look, despite our protests. He made it about twenty yards into the woods and then came sprinting back to the car. He screamed,"GO! GO! GO!" We booked it out of there just in time to see a figure bursting out from the tree line. James said it looked like a man covered in filthy rags but his face was all messed up. When James pointed the flashlight at him, the man looked up and started running at him. We ended up parking in a Piggly Wiggly Parking lot for the rest of the night."

13 I remember being frozen with fear

via theatlantic.com

"This was back when I was a little kid in east Europe. My cousin and I were walking through the woods, we were maybe 8 - 9 years old. It was more like a large urban forest, big enough to get lost in. Suddenly we saw a man standing in the bushes, he was wearing nothing but tighty-whities, dress shoes and a watch and had his back toward us. We kind of just froze there, staring at him. He must've heard the rustling behind him and slowly turned around. He had the creepiest smile on his face and started slowly moving toward us while making a beckoning motion with his finger. I remember being frozen with fear for a few moments before turning around to look at my cousin, who was no longer there. I could only see his heels flashing in the distance as he was running away. Of course I followed immediately and I don't think I've ever ran that fast before or since."

12 His eyes locked on me

via galoremag.com

"This happened recently, it was midnight, I was at the train station waiting for my train to arrive, and there was this really tall guy walking my way carrying a suit case, as he came closer I noticed he was struggling to carry the suitcase as it looked rather heavy and oddly enough it was leaking some sort of liquid, not water, but it seemed more thicker. As this guy approaches he orders me to take the bag, the tone of his voice was a little aggressive and he didnt sound sober, taking a closer look at him, I noticed his covered in dirt up to his face and cuts on his forearms, I said 'sorry', struck for words I started to walk away, my train starts to arrive and the guy follows me saying things I couldn't quite understand, I hop on the train, door shuts, he is outside pointing at me yelling more gibberish, train slowly departs and suddenly punches the window in frustration with his eyes locked on me, relieved im on the train, fellow commuters looking at me puzzled with all the commotion of me and that guy. Creeped me out"

11 No one would help me

via scandallas.wordpress.com

"Probably just my entire life would count as a disturbing, scary story. My mother and grandmother were always extremely protective over me as a child-I grew up forbidden to visit friends or family, walk down the street, go outdoors by myself, or even cook or drive. It got worse and worse as I grew older. I mean, I was 19 and my mother forbade me from having a job. She told me that I had everything that I needed right there with her, I didn't need money.

I decided that enough was enough and saved up some money from doing laundry and finding change around the house, swiping what I could here and there-and I had to hide it well. She would steal it from me if she found it, she said that all money was hers and hers alone. I packed my bags one day and tried to leave, she actually tackled me to the ground and dragged me back inside with my grandmother's help, had my phone reported stolen and took it from me so that I couldn't make calls, and slept beside my bed to make sure that I didn't sneak away.

She took me to a church meeting one day (Holiness) and had the 'demons blessed out of me' for three hours solid. No one would help me, she had them all convinced that I was nuts and needed help. She even recruited a cousin on my next attempt weeks later, when I actually got a bus ticket, to come and trick me into the car. Cousin told me that she was protecting me, helping me but she wanted to talk to me first-shut the car door on me after I got in, it had a child safety lock on it. They drove me home and kept me isolated for a solid year before I could get help. Some of my relatives even parked their cars in the driveway for a while to keep me from leaving."

10 I hear a giggle...

via pcmode.org

"Went to my aunt and uncles house one family vacation about 10 years ago. We drove from South Texas to some small town in Missouri, can't remember the name, we arrived there at 1am. Family consisted of myself, 2 younger sisters, mother, father. Most of the family was hungry from the long drive and wanted to see if a McDonald's was open. I was tired from the long car ride and wanted to stay at the house. Mom said one of my sisters would be staying as well. I settle down into the living room watching TV, slightly dozing off. I can remember hearing pitter patter down the hallway and assumed my sister was just running around, she'd been eating sugary snacks the whole way up. I get a call from my mom asking what I wanted to eat and in the background can hear both my sisters arguing. I hear a giggle somewhat behind me stand straight up and look around, nothing. I ask my mom if my sister ended up going with them, which she confirmed.

I stood in the corner of the room till everyone got back."

9 I know what happened

via myhauntedlifetoo.com

"When I was a teenager I was home alone one weekend and I was sleeping in my parent's room since there was a TV in there. Sometime around 2am I felt like I was being stared at, from the direction of the hallway. I looked up and I saw a shadow person looking at me. It was weird because it was a pure man-shaped black mass and I could see him in the dark hallway, I'm guessing light from the tv helped. I sat up and stared back but I was terrified. We looked at each other for probably 5 seconds and then it turned and walked down the hall, a few seconds later I heard a loud crash. I was so scared I turned the tv to the Disney channel and stayed awake for as long as possible.

When I woke up the next morning I walked down the hall to the bathroom and that's when I noticed a mirror that was hanging and fallen off the wall and was shattered. My family still doesn't believe me but I know what happened."

8 He had been watching them for years

via youtube.com

"My cousin and his family (wife and infant son) had lived in their house for about 5 years.

His wife left home to drop the baby off at daycare before work, but realized she had left her phone at home.

Entering the house, she turned the corner to the hallway and nearly ran into the drop-down attic ladder which was fully extended.

They never used the attic as it was filled with loose insulation and my cousin had left for work hours earlier.

She quietly left the house, drove around the corner and called the police.

When the police investigated, they found a short-range transmitter connected to several cameras hidden throughout their home. The light fixture in the shower, the ceiling fan above their bed, even a pinhole in the nursery were sending videos to a nearby location.

Their neighbor a few houses away had been given a key by the prior owners and installed surveillance equipment once he knew their schedule.

My cousin's wife walked in on him updating his equipment but he forgot something at his house and left to get it when she walked in.

He had been watching them for years."

7 I think you sent this by mistake

via insidesources.com

"Around 10 years ago my mother got an envelope in the mail. It was filled out to her name and everything. There was no return address, it only said FLORIDA. The envelope contained a baby picture of my mother with a note that simply said "I think you sent this by mistake". She told me the picture had been in a box in the basement for 20+ years and she certainly never took it out and especially never sent it to anyone, ever. We live over 1000 miles away from Florida and at the time, didn't know a single person who lived there. I remember being so freaked out as to how the hell that picture got out of the basement let alone ended up in Florida."

6 I have no idea if they ever caught the guy

via youtube.com

"I was going out with two of my guy friends one night, and we were planning to just walk to the bar. About a quarter of the way, we realized it was too cold and we should grab a cab. There was a cab sitting in the parking lot of the royal farms right there, so we went up and tapped on the window (the cabbie appeared to be taking a nap). He woke up, motioned for us to get in so we did. He pulls out of the royal farms lot into the lane with traffic going in the opposite direction that we were moving. Then he starts weaving back and forth throughout the lanes in an S pattern. Luckily, there was no traffic coming in the opposite direction. We asked for him to stop and we'd just get out there. I was in the middle seat, we came to a stop at a red light and the boys both hop out. As I started sliding over to get out, the cab driver took off, running the red light as I'm desperately trying to hold the door open with my foot. I figured that if that door closed, he'd lock it and I'd be locked in and his prisoner. I'm screaming my head off and still holding the door with my foot, the guys are running as fast as they can behind the cab while throwing whatever they can at it. He then decides to swing right and smashes into about 8 cars that were parked along the side of the road. This was also the side where my leg was holding the door open. Luckily for me, there was another red light and a car stopped in front of us. I couldn't get the right door open, but was quick enough to get over and get out of the drivers side. As soon as I rolled out, the light changed and he took off. The guys were only able to get a very blurry picture of the tag, and we couldn't make out the numbers when we called 911. My leg was ok, just badly bruised and I have no idea if they ever caught the guy. Hands down, scariest experience of my life."

5 "You should go inside. My dad is recording you."

via today.com

"When I was about 8yrs old my neighbor filmed me in secret.

I was trying to be a good kid and was helping with the laundry. Our dryer was broken, so we were using a clothes line outside. I was busy hanging up the wet laundry when the neighbor boy yelled to me.

"Hey, I would go inside if I were you!"

"What?" I was confused

"You should go inside. My dad is recording you."

I was super confused because when he said "recording you" I thought he meant with a tape recorder and I wasn't saying anything. Before I could respond, his dad started yelling at him.

"Get inside you little fucker before I beat the shit out of you."

That's when I saw him with his camcorder behind some trees. I didn't know what to do. One of our new kittens ran over to me and started biting my ankles trying to play, so I used that as en excuse to pick it up and go inside."

4 He somehow found us

via bbc.co.uk

"Context: my mom's college boyfriend became her stalker after she left his awful, abusive ass back in the mid-80s.

Several years ago, just before the last Harry Potter movie came out, my mom and I were marathoning the other seven movies and at about 1am the phone rings. Normally we don't answer, we figure if it's important they'll leave a message, but a call that late at night is probably urgent. Mom answers and almost immediately her face changes and she tells me, "lvhq, go wake up your father." Shit, I've never seen my mom this scared, I run upstairs and get him. Back downstairs she's still on the phone and I have no idea what's going on. Dad has some words with the caller and we hug it out in the kitchen.

This is when I found out my mom had a stalker. Despite him being silent for years, and their whole breakup happening halfway across the country, he somehow found us. Said he'd driven by our house. Complimented the neighborhood. Freaks me out to this day, wondering how much he knows about us, and if I've ever talked to him unwittingly."

3 She started sprinting and the van sped up too

via sheknows.com

"My friend was visiting family in the states. They lived in a rural community of Maine and one morning she woke up before everyone else and decided to go for a run. After ~30 minutes she turned back and started noticing a van following a few blocks behind her. She thought it was strange so started turning down a few streets with the van following every move. She started sprinting and the van sped up too.

She ran to the first house she could find and started banging on the door. No answer. Hoped the fence and started banging on the back door. Dog in the house started barking at her but no one answered. She jumped into the empty pool in the backyard and hid while dialing 911. A car parked in front of the house and man started calling out to her offering her a ride home.

The dog in the house was now barking like crazy and the man left after about a minute. Police showed up and took her back to her family's place. She gave a report and they identified the van from a nearby HVAC business. It had been stolen early that day and the same man was arrested in the next county at a gas station."

2 There was a chair next to me that wasn't there the night before

via flickr.com

"When I was 19 I was visiting my grandmother in Indiana. Unfortunately she ended up in the hospital so my mom and I took turns staying with her.

One morning I was sleeping at my grandmother's house when I woke up to her front storm door slamming. I sat up and realized there was a chair next to me that wasn't there the night before.

I got up and went to the front door. The main actual door was wide open and only the storm door was closed. A man was walking across the lawn, his back to me. Normal walking. For some reason I wasn't afraid. I also wasn't wearing my glasses so I kind of assumed this guy was a postal worker. I didn't put the chair by the bed thing together until later.... When the toilet seat slammed down and scared the shit out of me.

But... Why was the toilet seat up? I am a girl, my mom's a girl...

Tldr Some random dude peed in my grandmother's house and watched me sleep maybe."

1 Sh*t went south pretty quick

via xorror.com

"There has always been rumors that if you travel far enough back into a certain part of my town, you will reach this hidden community filled with these crazy people who hate outsiders. The road back there is very easy to find and travel on which made me pretty skeptical right away so one day, a friend and I drove back there in my truck.

I had looked at the place on google earth and it didn't seem to be more than a small group of ranch style homes. Well, shit went south pretty quick. The first house we passed had this weird army of dogs running around. They all start going batshit crazy so we just sped up but that was like the warning bell because people started coming out of every fucking house and they were all yelling shit at us. My friend and I both start freaking out, speed past and try to find the first place to turn around and get out. As I'm making my u-turn, rocks are starting to hit my truck and one guy was walking straight from his garage with what looked like a shotgun. He didn't shoot but I did have some big dents on my truck from the rocks.

We hauled ass out of there and I had to lie to my dad and tell him that shit flew out of a car in front of me on the freeway and hit me causing the dents."
