Most of us envy the stars of Hollywood, with their high class lifestyles and access to the finest things in life. We seem to think of celebrities as super humans who are lucky enough to enjoy luxurious vacations and buy expensive cars and clothing. They always seem to look put-together and poised, whether they are on a red carpet, or just grabbing coffee somewhere in Beverly Hills. To most, a famous life is a good life.

But what happens when these celebrities have a hard time adjusting to fame? Some turn to drugs and alcohol for an escape, while others seek out privacy and seclusion in other ways. The truth is, living your life in the limelight is not always a good thing. Having your every move photographed and spread across the tabloids can be defeating for those that aren't super self-assured to begin with.

Over the decades, we have seen a number of celebrities go AWOL. Sometimes the disappearances are subtle, and sometimes they are shocking. Some leave ominous messages via social media, others vanish without a trace. So where do these recluses go? What circumstances pushed them to the edge?
