In an environment where salaries are sky-high, unreasonable demands are made, and huge egos have to be stroked, it’s no wonder rifts and feuds abound. While many Hollywood personalities are known to be sweet, level-headed folk, there are the occasional ones (or two or three or dozens) who take on that holier-than-thou attitude and have that strong sense of entitlement, all because they’ve supposedly made the big time. And it’s people like that who give tabloids and paparazzi good business and provide entertainment for the fans and public.

And the attention is not necessarily unwanted. Many people in the entertainment industry are so desperate to be in the limelight that they intentionally instigate a feud and have it leaked to the press so that the issue is splashed all over the tabloids the very next day. It’s so easy nowadays to warrant that kind of attention—all it takes is a cryptic tweet from the star about his or her supposed enemy and all Hollywood hell breaks loose. These are some of the more famous celebrity cat fights. Many of these rifts have thankfully been resolved, while some have remained irreparable.

15 Katy Perry and Taylor Swift

They both dated the same guy, at different times, of course. But it’s widely believed that the root cause of the fight between former BFFs Katy Perry and Taylor Swift was both ladies’ history with John Mayer. Though they’ve never outright mentioned each other by name when referring to the feud, it’s been widely alluded to by both parties in interviews and on Twitter, as reported in a Pop Sugar article. Swift did an interview for Rolling Stone magazine, in which she talked about the back story of her latest hit song Bad Blood and explained that it was about a friendship that had gone bad. Both the lyrics and the video contain very subtle references to Perry.

14 Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey

When Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey were both invited to be judges in American Idol, the producers certainly knew what they were doing. By pitting two divas with gigantic egos against each other, they were sure to stir the pot and hopefully bring in the ratings. Sure enough, the entire season was filled with drama between the two strong ladies as they took both subtle and blatant digs at each other, as reported on E! news. It’s safe to say that working together is an experience that neither of them wants to repeat.

13 Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie

It’s sad when your best friend from babyhood becomes a virtual stranger simply because of a fallout after doing a TV show together. Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie were spoiled little rich kids who were forced to give up all their luxuries in the show The Simple Life. The pair then got into a fight in 2005, according to The Daily Mail and it was reported that they were no longer friends. In fact, Hilton wasn’t even invited to Richie’s wedding. No one knows the true reason behind the fight, but they claim they have mended fences already.

12 Debbie Reynolds and Elizabeth Taylor

One of the biggest scandals to hit Hollywood happened in the late 1950s and it involved a love triangle. Then up-and-coming actress Debbie Reynolds (Carrie Fisher’s mother) struck up a friendship with Elizabeth Taylor, who was already a successful actress at that time. But Reynolds’ then husband Eddie Fisher happened to spend too much time with Taylor and the pair eventually fell in love, resulting in him leaving Fisher and their two children so that he could be with Taylor. The two women eventually buried the hatchet almost 50 years later, according to ABC News.

11 Tom Cruise and Brooke Shields

Many people felt that Tom Cruise was out of line when back in 2005, he publicly criticized Brooke Shields for taking antidepressants to battle postpartum depression, as reported in People. After all, who was Cruise to criticize what a mother goes through when he could never be one? Cruise is a member of the church of Scientology, which condemns the use of mind-altering prescriptions and he was just stating his beliefs, to which Shields retorted that he wasn’t a woman and he should mind his own business. Cruise has since apologized to Shields.

10 Jerry Seinfeld and Lady Gaga

She has always courted controversy, what with her meat-covered outfits and headline-grabbing songs and music videos. But Lady Gaga never really truly pissed off anyone, until she gave the finger during a Mets game and was criticized by the fans who were at the stadium and by comedian Jerry Seinfeld. According to New York Daily News, Seinfeld went so far as to say “This woman is a jerk. I hate her.” He did not take kindly to the fact that after giving the finger, the singer even got to sit in his private box during the game.

9 Taylor Swift and Kanye West

Kanye West is infamous for his public spectacles that are downright improper. One such instance was when he raced to the stage during the 2009 VMAs and rudely interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech for her Best Female Video Award. He snatched the mic from Swift mid-sentence and declared that Beyonce should have won the award and not Swift. It took six years, several apologies, and Jay-Z’s intervention for the two to finally patch things up, according to an article in The Washington Post.

8 Amber Rose and the Kardashians

The rift between Amber Rose and certain members of the Kardashian family started in 2012, when she accused Kim Kardashian of stealing Kanye West from her, calling her a homewrecker, as reported in People. Then a few years later, she was giving Kylie Jenner flack for supposedly dating Tyga, who was rumored to have left his baby mama for the 17-year-old Jenner. Khloe Kardashian was quick to jump to her little sister’s defense via Twitter, tweeting that “people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.”

7 Sylvester Stallone and Bruce Willis

One of the pitfalls of having an all-star cast for a movie franchise is dealing with these big stars’ egos and impossible demands. And with a franchise as huge as the Expendables films, it was only a matter of time when some of its stars would butt heads. According to E! news, Bruce Willis got on Sylvester Stallone’s bad side when contracts were being negotiated for the fourth Expendables movie. Willis was allegedly requesting for a higher salary to which Stallone, the movie franchise’s mastermind, tweeted, “Greedy, lazy…A sure formula for career failure.” The two made amends a year later.

6 Charlie Sheen and Chuck Lorre

While without a doubt one of the funniest comedic actors in the business, Charlie Sheen also has a temper and attitude that has gotten him in trouble in both his professional and personal life. He famously had a very publicized spat with Chuck Lorre, the creator of the hit show Two and a Half Men. This prompted Sheen to leave the hit show, though fans hoped that he would make a cameo on the show’s final episode. Instead, Lorre killed off Sheen’s character at the very end in a senseless death involving a piano falling on his head. Needless to say, Sheen had a lot of harsh words to say about Lorre as stated in People, calling him “immature.”

5 Shannen Doherty and Jennie Garth

Shannen Doherty is notorious for dropping out of her hit shows in a huff because she didn’t get along with her co-stars. She threw away a great career opportunity when she quit her role as Brenda Walsh in the wildly popular teen hit show Beverly Hills 90210. According to E! news, she clashed terribly with Jennie Garth, who played her best friend Kelly on the show. Garth said that their relationship was a love-hate one, wherein they loved each other on some days, but wanted to “claw each other’s eyes out” on other days.

4 Shannen Doherty and Alyssa Milano

Just like in 90210, Shannen Doherty again encountered differences with a co-star, though it’s never been explicitly confirmed. All the public knows is that after three years playing Prue Halliwell on the hit TV show Charmed, Doherty’s character was killed off. Rumor had it that she didn’t get along with Alyssa Milano, who played her youngest sister Phoebe on the show. Neither Milano, Doherty, nor Holly Marie Combs ever admitted to the rift, although in an article on Huffington Post, Doherty pointedly did not mention Milano when she said, “I’ll miss Holly a lot…there were never, ever, ever any problems between the two of us.”

3 Kelly Osbourne and Christina Aguilera

Back in 2012, Kelly Osbourne was embroiled in a very high-profile feud with Christina Aguilera through the former’s controversial show Fashion Police. As reported by US Weekly, Osbourne commented on Aguilera’s weight, saying “maybe she is just becoming the fat b**** she was born to be…She called me fat for years. I was never that fat.” It’s safe to say that feud has been put to rest, as both ladies are looking svelte these days.

2 Amanda Peet and Jenny McCarthy

Many Hollywood stars have voiced their opinions about vaccinating children and those with opposing views have inevitably butted heads. According to Fox News, Jenny McCarthy is fiercely against vaccines, as she has a son with autism and she’s firm in her belief that it was caused by vaccines. Amanda Peet, a spokeswoman for Every Child by Two, which encourages mothers to fully vaccinate their children by age two, called McCarthy a parasite. McCarthy, on the other hand, retorted, “She has a lot of nerve to come forward and be on that side.”

1 Joan Crawford and Bette Davis

It’s lauded as the most vicious celebrity cat fight in Hollywood history, one, because it involved two of the silver screen’s brightest stars at the time and two, because it was never resolved. Joan Crawford and Bette Davis were known for their willful and stubborn personalities, aside from their acting chops. But the two legends’ rift stemmed from the man caught between them: actor Franchot Tone, whom Davis fell in love with, but Crawford quickly snagged and married before Davis’ eyes. Davis claimed she would never forgive Crawford for that, as reported in the National Enquirer. The two actresses got to take out their hatred for each other right onscreen when they starred together as two feuding sisters in the film Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? In a particularly intense fight scene, Davis accidentally cracked the head of Crawford, who needed three stitches to fix the injury.
