Some celebrities are smart enough to hire a professional to handle their social media and some other celebrities are not so smart and they choose to snap, tweet, and post by themselves. This may be a horrible decision on their part but it is a wonderful decision for us. Most of the time it's just selfies or photos with friends but sometimes we are blessed with an amazing social media failure like the Mary J. Blige spelt "intelligence" as "intelligents" in an iconic tweet, the time when Mia Farrow posted a screenshot of her adopted daughter with the words "Mia Farrow's adopted daughter" typed into a Google search, or the time Charlie Sheen accidentally tweeted his own phone number. These are the moments that we will cherish forever.
However, sometimes these blunders are not the result of a harmless lack of technological know-how but instead they are the result of an intentional attempt to mislead fans. There are some celebrities who choose to lie to their fans whether it's with Photoshopping out thigh gaps, claiming to be vegan, or that they actually use products that they definitely don't use. Let's be honest, the Kardashians don't actually use FitTea and that strapless bra that Amber Rose promotes on her IG definitely doesn't work and she definitely doesn't use it. Though many may get away with their lies, some of these celebrities are brought to justice by the public which is incredibly satisfying. Here are the celebs who were caught lying on social media.
15 Khloe Kardashian's "Homemade Greatness"
The Kardashians may have fake lips, noses, and booties but at least they're honest about it. Say what you will about the famous reality stars but you have to admit that they are true to their brand and upfront about why they're famous, at least for the most part. However, they are a lot less endearing when they are caught lying to their fans. In 2015, Khloe Kardashian posted a photo on Instagram of some pumpkin pies, pecan pie, and muffins with the caption, "I am sooooo proud of myself lol can I say that??? I filmed on a tripod, in my kitchen a lot of me baking and prepping for today so I will have that up on my app soon!!!" She was caught red-handed by fans who recognized the desserts as products of the popular Hollywood bakery Sweet Lady Jane. She did the same thing in 2014 when she posted photos of eerily similar desserts with the caption, "All of my homemade greatness." Sure, Khloe.
14 Bella Thorne's Jacket is Made Out of Bunnies
Last year, Disney Channel alum Bella Thorne was caught up in a scandal after posting a photo of herself in a fur jacket. She was soon swarming with angry comments and outraged fans so she swiftly responded that the jacket was made with faux fur. However, the some of the people of the internet are not easily fooled and their research helped to bring light to the fact that the jacket was made with actual fur. The jacket is an exact match to the Tierra Striped Fur Jacket by Alice & Olivia which retails for $1,700. In the description of the jacket on the retailer's website, the material is listed as genuine rabbit fur and arctic fox fur. Thorne should have done herself a favor and not posted a photo of her in the jacket, or better yet, she probably shouldn't have bought a jacket made out of bunnies in the first place.
13 Britney Spears Steals Photos of Corn from the Internet
If you aren't already following Britney Spears on Instagram, do yourself a favor and follow her right now. Spears' IG is full of mommy memes, pics with her hunky new boyfriend, and lots of random pics of tomatoes, dolphins, and sushi. Though her IG is generally harmless and endlessly entertaining, she was involved in a bit of a scandal when she posted a photo of a plate of corn with the caption "It's honestly too good to be true mmmm." Scandalous, right? This may not seem like a big deal but right after she posted the photo, it became obvious that Spears was blatantly stealing pics of corn straight from the internet. How did these super sleuths crack the case? Someone literally just googled "grilled Mexican corn" and it was one of the first images to come up. It's not a horribly scandalous lie by any means but it leaves us with a lot of questions.
12 Kim Kardashian Blames North for Bikini Picture
While Kim Kardashian was pregnant with her son Saint, she claimed that she was feeling pretty down about her self-image and even said she felt like a "f***ing whale." So it makes sense that she'd want to post a flattering pic of herself for a throwback Thursday. However, instead of just posting the pic of herself in a bikini that was taken over 10 years ago, she blamed her young daughter instead, writing, "North posted this while playing games on my phone. Not sure why or how she chose it but I'm not complaining! LOL I deleted it so now reposting it myself!" Kim, we know that North doesn't know how to post pics on IG, we know she has her own iPhone to play games on, and we know that you can change captions on your IG pics instead of deleting the pic and reposting it. Seriously, Kim, being pregnant is no fun and if you want to post a flattering pic of yourself, go right ahead. We support you.
11 Justin Bieber Does Not Own a Private Jet
Way back in 2014, Justin Bieber posted a selfie on Instagram in a private jet making a weird face that will probably make you uncomfortable. In the caption, he implied that he had purchased the jet for himself as a Christmas present, writing: "New jet for Christmas, and she's beautiful." However, Bieber did not buy the jet at all. How do we know this? The jet was worth about $60 million and, at this time and Bieber's net worth was around $200 million in 2014 according to Celebrity Net Worth so it would be a bad investment on Bieber's part to buy it. Honestly, none of his fans would judge him for NOT owning a private jet but they definitely will (and did) judge him for lying about owning a private jet. Seriously, if you don't got it, don't flaunt it.
10 Perez Hilton Says will.i.am Beat Him Up
Back when Perez Hilton was literally the worst, he claimed that he had gotten beaten up by will.i.am outside the Cobra nightclub after the MuchMusic Video Awards in Toronto in 2009. Of course, the gossip blogger went straight to Twitter to tell his fans of his of his attack: "I was assaulted by Will.I.Am of the Black Eyed Peas and his security guards. I am bleeding. Please, I need to file a police report. No joke." Will.i.am actually set up his own Twitter account to post a video saying, "Perez Hilton is a liar...Instead of calling the police, you Twittered that I assaulted you. Sounds like somebody wants mad attention." Will.i.am said that the beef between them started when Fergie asked if Hilton had a problem with her and he said that he didn't like her band's record. Hilton was obviously used to making stuff up because The Black Eyed Peas' The E.N.D was full of the catchiest bops of 2009.
9 Rita Ora Does Not Get 100k Retweets
Singer, actor, model, brand ambassador, former host of America's Next Top Model, former X Factor judge, and former judge of The Voice UK, Rita Ora released her debut album in 2012 and decided to tease some new music in 2014. She tried to get some engagement on her Twitter by promising new music if the tweet got 100,000 retweets. It's admirable that she was so ambitious but she didn't even come close to 100k which made her look a little pathetic. Technically, Ora kept her word and did not release new music but she lied by saying that she was hacked, tweeting: "By the way my Twitter got hacked somebody is threatening to release new music I've worked really hard on. Nothing comes out until I'm ready." Celebrities are really quick to say they were hacked but this claim didn't save her. Everyone knew that she was scrambling to save her image. However, Ora is releasing a new single at the end of May so maybe she finally got 100k retweets.
8 Lindsay Lohan Photoshops Her Booty
Lindsay Lohan's social media profiles are always full of surprises but few are as hilarious as the photo where she tried to make her booty look bigger. She posted the photo on Instagram of herself in a black leotard in an awkward pose with the caption: “My feet look red lol had to take that out. Only real red is my hair." Why her feet looked red, we'll never know and we'll also never know why she thought she could get away with Photoshopping her rear end. How can anyone miss the fact that the background behind her booty is totally warped? Obviously, she tried a little too hard to give herself a more curvy figure but this may have just been a ploy to get people talking about something else than the fact that she used the n-word on Twitter just a few days before. Gotta change that headline somehow.
7 Soulja Boy Doesn't Know that Money is Green
While "Kiss Me Thru the Phone" was probably your 2008 jam and you probably still know the dance to "Crank That (Soulja Boy)", you probably haven't thought of Soulja Boy in awhile. He tried to change that in 2014 by posting on Vine and Instagram videos and pics of himself with stacks of $100 bills. This lie is about as obvious as Lindsay Lohan's fake booty and Justin Bieber's private jet because those bills are obviously pieces of white paper. Apparently Soulja boy forgot that money is green and pretended that he had hundreds of thousands of dollars to pose with. Soulja Boy went to Twitter to explain himself: "I just want my fans to know that yes I was on set shooting a video and they had prop money and I took a picture with it. All my cash is real." Sure, Soulja Boy, you tell 'em.
6 James Charles Did Not Retake His Yearbook Photos
James Charles became a bit of an internet sensation when he posted a photo of himself which he claimed was taken when he asked to retake them. The infamous photo set also included Charles applying makeup while looking in a mirror with a ring light before the reshoot so that his "highlight would be poppin." However, Charles' friend Thomas Halbert provided the receipts when he tweeted the conversation between himself and Charles. In the conversation, Halbert said, "the fact that you scammed social media into thinking you retook your senior photos." Charles replied, "If you expose me I'll kill you." Basically what happened was that Charles edited the photo to make it seem like he retook it. This justice is very satisfying for many people since Charles has recently been under fire for tweeting about his fear of getting Ebola in Africa. Since he became famous because of social media, it's only fitting that he be taken down by it as well.
5 Oprah Loves her iPad More Than the Microsoft Surface
Oprah Winfrey is known for her annual list of Favorite Things but in 2012, one of the things that made the list was definitely not her favorite. In a truly iconic tweet, Oprah said that she loved the Microsoft Surface and she had spent the weeks leading up to the tweet gushing about the tablet. She decided to make completely sure that everyone knew about her "favorite thing" so why not tweet about it to 15 million followers? This would have been a great idea if not for one thing...the tweet was sent from her iPad. How do we know this? Because the tweet says "via Twitter for iPad." After all of the money that Microsoft gave Oprah to promote their product, she ended up giving Apple some free advertising. However, it is possible that Oprah loves her Microsoft Surface and her iPad equally but then why wasn't an iPad on her list of favorite things for 2012? We may never know.
4 Donald Trump Lies About Almost Everything
Long before he was president, Donald Trump was known for his outrageous tweets that were often riddled with lies. Let's never forget about the time that he tweeted: "The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive." Yeah, that's a pretty obvious lie. However, thanks to The Washington Post, there is an extension that you can install on Firefox or Google Chrome that will fact-check Trump's tweets for you. How convenient! Every other day he is lying about one thing or the other whether it's about global warming, James Comey, Meryl Streep, or taxes. Honestly, it would probably be in his best interest to delete his account for good (at least for the next 3 and a half years). We can only hope that the lies and the cyber bullying will stop eventually but at least there are plenty of ways to fact-check.
3 Kris Jenner Makes a Few Edits to Gordon Ramsay
There are a lot of celebrities who very obviously Photoshop themselves in their Instagram photos but, for the most part, they only edit themselves and forget about the other people in the photo. This is not the case for Kardashian matriarch, Kris Jenner. In an IG photo with celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, Jenner was kind enough to not only Photoshop herself but also helped Ramsay get rid of a few wrinkles. However, the Photoshopping job was not executed very well because Ramsay looks like his face is covered in a weird haze while Jenner looks great. The best part of the situation is that Ramsay also posted an almost identical photo of the two without the filter. These two IG posts show the difference between what it's like to be a woman in Hollywood and what it's like to be a man. Ramsay is not criticized for his wrinkles but Jenner is so you have to give her a little credit. But seriously, just use Valencia next time.
2 Taylor Swift Lies About Kanye West's Song
The Taylor Swift/Kim Kardashian/Kanye West feud may go down in history as one of the most iconic feuds of Hollywood. Maybe Ryan Murphy will even depict the epic rivalry in a season of Feud one day. In one of the biggest social media scandals ever, Kardashian almost broke the internet when she posted a Snapchat video of a conversation between Swift and West about his song "Famous." West referenced Swift in the song along with some expletives so he ran the lyrics by her. In the video, you can hear Swift saying that she didn't have a problem with the lyrics and she even thanked West for checking. This was big news since Swift had been complaining for the weeks leading up to the debacle that she felt that she was being victimized by West. The big lie was when Swift posted a message on Twitter saying that she wanted to be "excluded from the narrative." Girl, if you wanted to be excluded, you should've been honest from the start.
1 Bow Wow Flies Commercial
This social media lie is one for the history books because it shook Twitter to its core. The whole thing started when the rapper/reality star Bow Wow posted a Snapchat video of a private jet with the caption, "Travel day. NYC press run for Growing Up Hip Hop. Let's gooo. I promise to bring yall the hottest show EVER." However, Bow Wow was not on a private jet at all and we know this because he was photographed on a commercial flight and the pic went viral. Though Bow Wow has since said that he never actually said that he was going to be on the private jet he took a picture of, Twitter is not letting it go. #BowWowChallenge has been a trending topic on Twitter for weeks when people began to post photos of themselves obviously trying to make themselves seem better off than they actually are. Thank you, Bow Wow, for lying to us so that we can enjoy this hilarious hashtag.
