Sure it's a massive hit and some of its major players are popping up everywhere these days (Laverne Cox is a total badass-rockstar smashing through boundaries left and right out there). However, the reality is that for all the super questionable scenes these actors have to participate in there will be very few who ever shake off their OITNB reputation. That's the thing with shows that develop a massive and dedicated following right off the bat. Their characters are pretty quickly pigeon-holed and there is little they can do about it.

14 Aileen Wuornos in Monster

[caption id="attachment_4593" align="alignnone" width="1280"] www.dailymotion.com[/caption]

Charlize Theron is recognized by many as one of the most beautiful and talented women in Hollywood. Sure, she won an Oscar and the love and praise from anyone who is anyone in Hollywood but the cost of playing the serial killer was a bit steep. Theron had to gain thirty pounds and become almost unrecognizable to take on the challenge. Some purists might feel that Theron's sacrifice is a testament to her dedication to the craft but for the rest of us gaining thirty and playing a prostitute who murders seven men doesn't fly.

13 Christian Bale as Trevor Reznik in The Machinist

[caption id="attachment_4594" align="alignnone" width="1219"] www.mic.com[/caption]

If Charlize gaining thirty is a problem can you imagine what Christian Bale went through to play his super creepy role in The Machinist. The six foot actor lost 60 pounds to play Trevor Reznik and, according to reports, welcomed the challenge. What is it with these actors and the lengths they are willing to go to for a role? What's worse for Bale is he had to quickly add back those 60 pounds and more for his next role as Batman. It should be noted that not only did Bale succeed in buffing up in time to play the caped crusader but he hit it out of the park as the best Batman, ever.

12 Any Character in Jaws

[caption id="attachment_4595" align="alignnone" width="1024"] www.thehuffingtonpost.com[/caption]

This film is the single reason that a large portion of the population is terrified of sharks. While it might be logical to be afraid of the toothy beasts, this film had many of us seeing sharks where they could never be; in the lake, river and even the swimming pool as our cruel older brother hummed the theme song to the film as he trolled behind us in the water. Most of us would have zero interest in spending any time in the water with the mechanical shark that was "Jaws". Do you think Steven Spielberg would agree to pay our therapy bills?

11 Any Extra in The Walking Dead

[caption id="attachment_4596" align="alignnone" width="1920"] www.cinemablend.com[/caption]

If you've seen the show than you know that the slow-moving zombies must come to a very violent, head-crushing end or they'll eat your face off to get to your brains. Too much? Yes, maybe, but watching the hit show is a lot like that. Taking part in the gore fest wouldn't be worth a full bank account even with creditors knocking at your door. Tragically, for these actors, most of their careers will suffer the same fate as the zombies because, just like the ladies of OITNB, they'll never be able to shake their zombie killing reps.

10 Natalie Portman as Nina Sayers in Black Swan

[caption id="attachment_4597" align="alignnone" width="1116"] www.fanpop.com[/caption]

As psychological thrillers go, this one will mess you up. Portman portrays a prima ballerina (Which is creepy in and of itself. Have you seen their feet?) who feels intense pressure while competing for the lead dance role in Swan Lake. Portman's character totally loses her grip on reality and the nightmare that ensues makes for a horror film that can't be unseen. Portman must have struggled with keeping her own sanity while playing the mad dancer. There were likely no shortage of nightmares at her house during filming; especially after that bathroom scene. *shudder*

9 Clarice Starling in The Silence of the Lambs

[caption id="attachment_4600" align="alignnone" width="1920"] www.youtube.com[/caption]

As far as protagonists go, she's one of the best, but playing opposite Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter would be too much for most. Jodie Foster played FBI agent, Clarice Starling in the horror film to rave reviews. The dark and twisted film has more than one bad guy to send shivers down your spine. Remember this scene: 'It rubs the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again'? Do yourself a favour and don't look it up. If you don't remember, consider yourself lucky and go watch a few episodes of Modern Family or something to clear your head.

8 Elizabeth Berkley as Nomi Malone in Showgirls

[caption id="attachment_4784" align="alignnone" width="1386"] via:note.taable.com[/caption]

One of the quickest ways to kill an acting career is to play a stripper in a big budget film. Has anyone seen Demi Moore since Strip Tease? Elizabeth Berkley, also learned this lesson the hard way. The Saved by the Bell Alum probably thought, like many others, that the role would catapult her into stardom. Unfortunately, for her, she would be propelled into virtual obscurity after the film's release and less than stellar reviews. This is one film the leggy actress should have run from.

7  Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades of Grey

[caption id="attachment_4606" align="alignnone" width="1261"] www.forbes.com[/caption]

No, just no. The book was bad erotica to say the least. The film is much the same. The relief when Charlie Hunman, of Sons of Anarchy fame turned down the role of Christian Grey was wide spread. Dakota Johnson, daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson was relatively unknown before this film and it looks as though things are going to stay that way. This is one film that won't do your resume any good. The writing, the casting and the directing all left something to be desired and in a film about sex, that is a very bad thing, indeed.

6 Cameron Diaz or Ben Stiller in There's Something About Mary

[caption id="attachment_4607" align="alignnone" width="1024"] www.eonline.com[/caption]

Even though she is one of America's Sweethearts, she doesn't mind getting down and dirty in films that the rest of us find it hard to watch without cringing. Gross-out humour or embarrassment humour was a huge theme in the late nineties. Diaz had no problem making us laugh by doing things we could never do. She deserved her big pay checks and her funny girl status because this girl went for it every single time. This scene may have cemented her status as gross-out queen.

5 Maggie Gyllenhaal in Secretary

[caption id="attachment_4656" align="alignnone" width="1024"] www.fanpop.com[/caption]

Billed as an erotic romance, this film stars Maggie Gyllenhaal and James Spader, who are involved in a dominant/submissive relationship. Gyllenhaal plays Spader's submissive secretary and the theme is explored in detail. It's unclear if these awkward scenes would make you want to laugh or cry but one thing for sure is that it took a strong woman to allow herself to be filmed in this position both literally and figuratively. Do you think her parents made it to the premiere?

4 Jason Biggs as Jim Levenstein in American Pie

[caption id="attachment_4673" align="alignnone" width="1280"] www.hotflick.net[/caption]

Just like a woman playing a stripper can be a career killer, so than can a man playing an obsessive masturbator. Jason Biggs as Jim Levenstein in another 90's gross out movie would never really work again (until a season of OITNB, but we all know how that will go for him) after this hit film. In fact, he's really mostly remember for a scene with a warm apple pie that, again you've been warned, you probably don't want to look that up. Biggs is a likeable and talented actor. This was just a role he should have left to someone else.

3 John Travolta as Terl in Battlefield Earth

[caption id="attachment_4677" align="alignnone" width="862"] www.sofahelden.com[/caption]

At the risk of pretending that any of us have actually watched this movie, it needed to make this list. It's really unclear what is even happening here. Quentin Tarantino went to all that trouble to completely resurrect John Travolta's career with Pulp Fiction and then he went and did something like this. It looks to be about alien enslavement and really bad hair but one can't be sure. Travolta owes Tarantino an apology for this one. In fact, he might owe all of us an apology for this one.

2 Sharon Stone as Catherine Tramell in Basic Instinct

[caption id="attachment_4678" align="alignnone" width="1920"] www.hotflicks.com[/caption]

Sharon Stone played a manipulating, murderous, narcissistic in Basic Instinct. The performance was impressive but few will remember that fact. That's because whenever you hear about the film all you can think of is that scene. You know the one. Sharon sits suggestively in an interrogation room and then changes positions seductively. How many times had people attempted to pause that scene at just the right moment? Thank goodness for the invention of the DVR so we can waste less time trying to get a glimpse of Sharon's stuff. How can we take her seriously after that?

1 Any of Tom Cruise's Leading Ladies

[caption id="attachment_4681" align="alignnone" width="3986"] www.popsugar.com[/caption]

It's not that Tom Cruise isn't good at what he does. In fact, some would argue that he might be the best. He's rarely been in a film that hasn't grossed millions upon millions. It's just that the leading ladies in his life don't seem to fare well in his films or real life. What if he fell in love with you and married you and then you were Mrs. Tom Cruise. And then there is the fear that he might convert you to Scientology and then where would you be? It's just too dangerous to get close to this action star.
