For some reason fans tend to get super invested in celebrities and their relationships. We love the thought of two beautiful people ending up together and being the perfect couple. Unfortunately (or fortunately) we only see what they want us to see, and that rarely includes the not-so-healthy parts of the relationship. We just see them looking glamorous and in love on the red carpet and dining in trendy restaurants all over the world, and think what more could they want?

But show business is a demanding industry and sometimes things like the spotlight, abnormal work hours, and constant scrutiny can take its toll on a relationship that might have been perfect under different circumstances. If celebrities want to be successful, they have to focus on their careers sometimes, even if it's at the expense of their relationships. But there are some celeb couples that seemed so perfect together that we as fans will probably never get over their split.

15 Rachel McAdams & Ryan Gosling

These two Canadian lovebirds were nothing if not #CoupleGoals. How could they not fall in love after playing Noah and Ali in the most iconic love story of our time, The Notebook. No one will ever forget their acceptance "speech" for Best Kiss at the Teen Choice Awards, and fans were positive they were soul mates. But it wasn't meant to be. They broke up for good in 2008, and Ryan now has a daughter with Eva Mendes. Rachel has dated around, and has been linked recently to her True Detective co-star, another fellow Canadian, Taylor Kitsch.

14 Jennifer Garner & Ben Affleck

Whether Ben cheated with the nanny or not, he and Jennifer were married for ten years and have three kids together, so there was a time when they were happy and in love. They were one of those Hollywood royalty type couples who seemed solid, likely to stay together forever and prove to everyone that marriage isn't a total sham. But it wasn't mean to be, and they announced their separation right before their 10 year anniversary. They are still living in the same house for the sake of their kids though, so who knows, maybe there will be a reconciliation.

13 Gwen Stefani & Gavin Rossdale

[caption id="attachment_8354" align="alignnone" width="1200"] via: www.usmagazine.com[/caption]

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale were the epitome of '90s music business royalty. They were not only super hot, but also super cool, and it was rare to hear about any drama between them. Rossdale did find out he was the father of a then 15-year-old girl in 2008, but they worked through the scandal and stayed together. Gwen filed for divorce citing "irreconcilable differences" this summer, and information that Gavin may have cheated with the nanny quickly followed. They have three sons together and they were together for thirteen years.

12 Britney Spears & Justin Timberlake

This relationship produced by pop music may be long gone but we can't help wonder what would have happened if Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake stayed in it for the long haul. Maybe Britney never would have had that emotional breakdown and shaved her head. There was speculation that Justin's song "Cry Me a River" was inspired by Britney cheating on him, but of course that could never be confirmed. Despite the break up, they've both had extremely successful music careers, and Justin is now married to Jessica Biel with a newborn son.

11 Vanessa Hudgens & Zac Efron

High School Musical co-stars Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens were together before he started working out and got really hot, so we know it wasn't all about looks. They were together for five years and have called each other their first loves, but in the end all the public scrutiny and simply being too young to settle down ended their relationship. Vanessa has also said it was difficult to see girls constantly drooling over her boyfriend, and she may have let jealousy get the best of her. She's now dating actor, Austin Butler and Zac is still playing the field.

10 Rachel Bilson & Adam Brody

Seth and Summer may have ended up together at the end of The O.C, but it just wasn't meant to be for real life couple Adam Brody and Rachel Bilson. They broke up for good in 2006 but were forced to continue portraying the onscreen couple that made them famous until the show was cancelled in 2007. Now Rachel has a baby with Hayden Christensen, and Adam is expecting his first child with wife, Leighton Meester (who actually looks a lot like Rachel).

9 Avril Lavigne & Deryck Whibley

Canada's queen of pop-punk, Avril Lavigne may have inexplicably decided to marry Nickelback's Chad Kroeger a couple years ago, but before that she was married to Sum 41's Deryck Whibley. Their marriage lasted three years, and Lavigne talked about how she was a good influence on him and helped him stay off drugs. He seemed to have a hard time after their split and was even hospitalized for organ failure brought on by years of heavy drinking. He's turned it around though, and just married model, Ariana Cooper in August.

8 Nina Dobrev & Ian Somerhalder

A better looking couple than The Vampire Diaries' Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder might not ever exist, but it looks like we might have to accept that. They dated for less than two years but fans thought they were the perfect couple, just like their on-screen characters were. After they broke up, they continued to work together on the show, but Nina announced she would be leaving after the sixth season ended earlier this year. Ian started dating actress, Nikki Reed and married her after being together for less than a year. Rebound?

7 Jonathan Groff & Zachary Quinto

Looking star, Jonathan Groff, and Star Trek star, Zachary Quinto could have been the gay Hollywood power couple, but they ended their relationship in mid 2013. Both are open about supporting gay rights and comfortable talking about what it was like coming out and being in the spotlight. But beyond that they both seem like really nice guys that everyone wants to invite to their dinner party. Now Quinto is dating model Miles McMillan.

6 Amy Poehler & Will Arnett

[caption id="attachment_8405" align="alignnone" width="1200"] via: www.latimes.com[/caption]

After a nine year marriage and two sons together, Amy Poehler and Will Arnett announced they were getting a divorce. Since they were Hollywood comedy royalty, fans weren't happy about the news. They'd both made guest appearances on each other's shows, and seemed happy together. In her memoir, Yes, Please, Amy briefly addressed the divorce saying, "I don't think a ten-year marriage constitutes failure. That being said, getting a divorce really sucks." She's now dating another comedian, Nick Kroll.

5 Heidi Klum & Seal

[caption id="attachment_8408" align="alignnone" width="1200"] via: www.usmagazine.com[/caption]

Supermodel Heidi Klum and her husband of seven years, Seal, seemed pretty solid and committed to their family (they have four children together-- three biological, and one from Heidi's previous marriage). They even renewed their marriage vows every year on their anniversary. But Heidi filed for divorce in 2012, and although they insisted publicly that the split was amicable, reports suggested it might have had something to do with Seal's hard partying and extreme temper.

4 Kristen Stewart & Robert Pattinson

[caption id="attachment_8409" align="alignnone" width="1200"] via: www.nydailynews.com[/caption]

After Kristen Stewart cheated on her Twilight co-star and boyfriend of approximately four years, Robert Pattinson with her Snow White and the Huntsman director, Rupert Sanders, it seemed the only course of action was for them to break up. Us Weekly published pictures of Stewart and Sanders together, and Pattinson confirmed he and Stewart were no longer together a few months later. She issued a public apology but it wasn't enough, and Twilight fans everywhere were devastated. Now Pattinson is engaged to FKA Twigs, and Stewart may or may not be dating a woman.

3 Winona Ryder & Johnny Depp

[caption id="attachment_8410" align="alignnone" width="785"] via: www.movielove.tumblr.com[/caption]

During their three year relationship Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder starred together in Edward Scissorhands. She was only 22, and he was 30 when they broke up in 1993. He famously had to have a tattoo on his arm changed from "Winona Forever" to "Wino Forever". Depp went on to date Kate Moss and Vanessa Paradis, with whom he has two children. He's now married to Amber Heard who is 24 years his junior. Winona had a couple relationships, including one with Matt Damon, but has never been married or had any children.

2 Miranda Lambert & Blake Shelton

[caption id="attachment_8411" align="alignnone" width="1200"] via: www.thehollywoodunlocked.com[/caption]

Country music's golden couple, Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert recently announced that they were splitting up after a four year marriage. They wrote numerous songs together and often collaborated musically during their nine year relationship, but the tabloids were always talking about their supposedly rocky union. There were reports of infidelity on both of their parts, and Lambert claimed Shelton was way more interested in partying and his work on The Voice than he was in being married to her.

1 Drew Barrymore & Justin Long

[caption id="attachment_8412" align="alignnone" width="1000"] via: www.celebitchy.com[/caption]

Drew Barrymore and Justin Long only dated on and off for less than a couple years total, but they always seemed like they had great chemistry and had a lot of fun together. We all know dating your best friend can be hit or miss, and even though they starred in two movies together (He's Just Not That Into You and Going the Distance), they couldn't make their relationship work. Maybe they are just better as friends. Now Barrymore is married with two daughters, and Long has been dating Amanda Seyfried for the last two years.
