When it comes to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram we’re all pretty much experts on them. Who doesn’t spend hours of their day scoping out other people’s profiles on the regular or posting what they are up to on a Tuesday at 2:36p.m.? It’s interesting stuff that the world needs to know about, right? Well, not to everyone apparently. Sure, many walks of life might gravitate to these platforms, but not everyone signs up for them. Different strokes for different folks and all of that jazz though, right?

In fact, even some celebrities shy away from them for various reasons. Why? Well, there are a number of factors that play into this nay-saying decision like privacy, credibility, paying attention to the world around them, or just plainly getting creeped out by people knowing your intimate details at all hours of the day. When you think about it, these really aren’t such bad reasons to back away from these social portals.

No matter the reason, we’ve found a list of celebs that aren’t only against social media, they are practically sprinting away from it and advocating against it publicly. Which celebrities aren’t on social media? Read on to find out who won’t be updating their statuses anytime soon.

15 Keira Knightley

Some people think that social media is just plain creepy. Let’s be real, isn’t the entire point of it to literally creep on people you know? Yeah, pretty much. Keira Knightly might not be too far off when she got completely freaked out by Twitter within the first 12 hours she signed up.

What freaked Knightly out? Well, she went under a false name and still got a major following for starters. She wasn’t even sure why or how word got out that she was even on Twitter. She thinks it might have been because Chloë Grace Moretz started following her and the trend just took off from there. Regardless, it was enough to get her off the platform pretty quickly. Can’t say I blame her. She draws enough of a crowd outside of the internet anyway.

14 Jake Gyllenhaal

Paying attention to the world around you is a big deal to some people, and missing out is also not okay when it comes down to it. Jake Gyllenhaal believes this to the fullest, which is why he doesn’t have social media to look down on his phone to. In all honesty, it does take a lot of time and effort throughout the day and we sacrifice events happening around us when we are stuck on our phones.

Gyllenhaal has mentioned, “No one is looking up. I take that seriously. I think it’s something really important and a little scary.” I guess it makes sense why he doesn’t have social media fired up and ready on his phone. Way to go for not missing out on the world around you!

13 Scarlett Johansson

Sometimes it’s not about the platform itself, but rather the lack of interest in your own personal details. Who cares about what you had for lunch or what you’re doing this Thursday? Honestly, not many people. Even you’ll forget these details in about a week or so anyway so what does it matter? Scarlett Johansson agrees, which is why she doesn’t have social media.

Not to mention that social media basically requires you to continuously update these details on a regular basis if you have these accounts, which is something Johansson just isn’t down for. I guess she’d rather just eat and enjoy her sandwich rather than post about it on her Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Can’t say that’s a bad thing, it might even make lunch that much more enjoyable.

12 Emma Stone

In other cases, some people are just against the vanity that is shown on social media. Not everyone can always look their best at every given moment on any given day. It’s just not possible. According to Emma Stone, it’s an eye rolling offense, thus no social media for her. I guess it’s commendable since she’s one that looks good all the time thanks to her hair and makeup people.

In fact, Stone has mentioned, "It seems like everyone's cultivating their lives on Instagram or on different forms of social media, and what pictures look best of their day." Can’t say she’s too far off on this one. Who hasn’t retaken their selfies 45 times in order to capture themselves perfectly? Social media can sure make us all pretty vain can’t it?

11 Sandra Bullock

Being truthful is huge to some people, or at least it is to Sandra Bullock anyway as that’s why she shies away from social media. Let’s be real though, who is posting about a bad day, or on an occasion when they come up short? No one is. No one has a life where everything is going right all the time, and I think that’s her point here. It gets old to see everyone just being overly happy all the time because it’s fake.

"We're not representing our lives truthfully. I will not take a selfie that I can't erase. I don't post or do any of that stuff,” said Bullock. Good for her I say because not many people take the steps to be as honest as she is.

10 Kate Winslet

Perhaps self-esteem is why some people choose to not create a social media platform. It adds up, especially because cyber bullying is a major thing not to mention that digital advertising allows young women to see material that leads to eating disorders and body dismorphia. Not to mention that these disorders seem to be on the rise ever since social media has come into play. Coincidence?

At least that’s what Kate Winslet thinks as she has mentioned multiple times how social media makes her blood boil when young adults end up with these disorders because of it. She claims that social media designs itself for women to see what they want to see rather than seeing what they should be seeing and that leads to problems. She’s even gone so far as banning social media in her entire house.

9 Rachel McAdams

Part of the reason that people don’t have social media is because they just don’t want to keep up with the times. Sometimes people want to listen to the radio or watch TV to get their news rather than scroll through their newsfeed multiple times a day. Hey, if it works why not? You get all your news at once rather than needing to constantly check back, right? This is what Rachel McAdams thinks anyway.

As an old soul, Rachel proudly exclaims that she doesn’t have a television, that she gets her news from the radio, and that she is really bad at e-mail, so needless to say it’s a stretch that she has social media. Props to her for being honest about being a dinosaur with technology I say.

8 Mila Kunis

Privacy is something that get stripped away when you have multiple social media profiles. Everyone knows where you are, what you are doing, and even what you are eating at all times of the day. It can be a little unsettling when you think about it. When you’re a celebrity you already have zero privacy and Mila Kunis really didn’t want to lose any more of it, thus no social media.

"I just don't think people need to know when I'm going to the restroom. What am I gonna tweet? Like, 'Hey now I'm moving from room to room.' I don't really know what I would tweet," Kunis exclaims. Sounds like she also has a lack of content to post up there as well, which can be a problem in its own right.

7 Jennifer Aniston

Believe it or not, social media can cause stress for some people. Think about it, it can be a lot of pressure as a public figure especially to keep up with your profile and to keep your content relevant and cool comes with its own set of stress. To top it off, everyone gets offended these days, so how do you not tick someone off on a daily basis without even trying? It’s easy to relate to Jennifer Aniston on this one. No wonder she doesn’t have social media profiles.

She also has a a lot of brands that she is the face of so imagine the image she needs to keep up along with all of these profiles—it’s daunting. The poor woman would probably be sweating bullets on a daily basis just logging into all of these profiles to be honest because it’s a lot of work to keep up with all of it.

6 Kanye West

Keeping a low profile is much easier when you don’t have a social media account, according to Kanye West anyway. Fans were devastated when this once very active member of the social media world abruptly pulled his profiles into oblivion leaving pretty much everyone in a loss of words. Rumors have been circulating since he was hospitalized in November for exhaustion, and many think that he just needs a bit of a break as he’s even been ducking out of some red carpet appearances as well.

Here’s the thing about his plan, it keeps the fans wanting more. If he does put his profiles back up in the future, the fans are just going to follow him more. However, for now, it keeps many fans at bay and gives him some much-needed privacy for the time being. Do you, Kanye.

5 Daniel Radcliffe

Some claim that you are taken more seriously if you don’t have social media profiles. Well, I guess that makes sense because if you’re one to talk about being a private person yet post on social media all of the time it comes off as speaking out of both sides of your mouth for lack of better words. Daniel Radcliffe agrees as he is one that wants to maintain a private life and stick to it without posting his details for all to see and being labeled as a hypocrite.

"I don't have Twitter and I don't have Facebook, and I think that makes things a lot easier because if you go on Twitter and tell everybody what you're doing moment to moment and then claim you want a private life, then no one is going to take that request seriously," Radcliffe says.

4 Julia Roberts

Lack of interest is a simple and straightforward reason to not take the plunge into social media, and it seems to be the most basic reason to not sign up to be quite honest. You wouldn’t sign up for a club if you weren’t interested in it, so why would you sign up for a website you don’t want to be active on? That’s what Julia Roberts thinks as she’s well aware of the social media platforms, but she just has no interest in them whatsoever.

She has also mentioned if she had Instagram she would be looking at it all of the time, which is something she is not interested in doing. Hey, gluing your eyes to your smartphone screen isn’t for everyone, and admitting that you don’t want to get way too involved with the site is a good reason to not get into it in the first place.

3 Jennifer Garner

Perhaps sparing others from your bland details is a reason to not get social media profiles. Who wants to see you in pajamas dropping you kids off at school in the morning? Not many people. Interesting events are cool to see, but the run of the mill activities are not so exciting in the same regard…at least that’s what Jennifer Garner thinks. Maybe it’s better to stay away if you don’t have a ton of great events to post on a regular basis.

If you don’t want to wear make up, it’s all the more reason to not be posting on social media all of the time either, and who’s rocking makeup around the clock as a mom with young kids? Sounds like Garner has her head in the right place.

2 Kristen Stewart

Entitlement is something that comes along with the social media territory. Everyone that has a smartphone can think that they have the right to bother anyone and pry into everyone’s lives just to post their details on social media according to Kristen Stewart. It’s kind of true though, who doesn’t instantly grab their camera the second they see a celebrity walking down the street then instantly post it on their profile?

"It's like you're trampling on someone's life without any regard. Everyone can do it now. Buy a camera and you're paparazzi; get a Twitter account and you're an informant. It's so annoying,” Steward claims. As a person that is a pretty public figure you can understand how she’s feeling as she probably encounters this pretty often. You definitely can see why social media isn’t her thing.

1 Jennifer Lawrence

The quirky and loveable Jennifer Lawrence does not have social media if you can believe it. It seems like she’d be the first person to be posting her silly videos or witty banter for all to see, but it just isn’t the case. It actually seems like she’s more private than anyone ever expected, and, not to mention, pretty horrible with technology.

The actress has actually been quoted saying, “I will never get Twitter. I’m not very good on a phone or technology. I cannot really keep up with emails, so the idea of Twitter is unthinkable to me.” Hey, at least she knows her weaknesses, right? It truly is a lot to keep up with if you’re as busy as she is on a day-to-day basis. Social media takes a ton of time.
