15 Celebrity Situations That Made Fans Question Everything

While they may be wealthy, beautiful, famous, and powerful, celebrities are human just like the rest of us. Well, Beyoncé may not be human. That’s a whole other issue. But for the most part, celebrities are human beings, who make mistakes just like the rest of us. The difference between us normies and celebrities is that their mistakes are broadcast to the whole world, then judged on a large scale for said mistake.

What kind of mistakes are we talking about? Those PR nightmares, of course! When celebs bad mouthed other celebs, have had run-ins with law enforcement, or have done something to completely dismantle their entire reputation and brand. It’s the kind of mistake that could seriously derail a celebrity’s entire career.

Below there are celebrity sins, PR nightmares, and huge mistakes that range from fairly innocent to straight-up criminal. Will these celebrities be condemned by the public forever or forgiven and given a second chance? We weigh in below!

17 Taylor Swift’s Sin: Being Exposed As A Fake And A Liar

via elitedaily.com

Who: Taylor Swift's carefully constructed brand relies heavily on her catchy songs written not so subtly about her famous ex-boyfriends and her army of famous friends.

Her Sin: After Kanye West released a song with disparaging lyrics about Swift, West said she gave him permission. Swift said she did not. Then, in perhaps the most epic use of social media ever, Kim Kardashian leaked a recorded phone call from Swift, in fact, giving West her permission to write the lyrics. The entire Internet broke. Celebrities were taking sides. It was mayhem.

Condemn or Forgive: We’ve pretty much already forgiven Swift, haven’t we? When Swift reemerged in 2017 with a new look, new sound, and new boyfriend, people were more or less down with it. Plus, Swifties won’t turn their back on her no matter what she does. Though, her image will forever be tainted by Snapgate.

16 Lena Dunham’s Sin: Pretty Much Everything She’s Ever Said

via comsopolitan.com

Who: Lena Dunham is the creator, writer, and star of the hit show Girls. She's also described herself as the “voice of her generation.”

Her Sin: Dunham has had to publicly apologize for many rude and insensitive statements. Most recently, Dunham supported a Girls director who was accused of inappropriate behavior by an actress, stating that she believes this actress’s account was one of the few times a #MeToo story was untrue.

Condemn or Forgive: Probably both, but more to forgive. Dunham’s support of the Girls director may have finally crossed a line for her supporters. Since Girls ended, Dunham has stepped away from acting. She just sold a comedy to HBO starring Jennifer Garner. What will likely happen is Dunham will become less visible because she'll be writing, directing, and producing, but she'll still be working.

15 Harvey Weinstein’s Sin: A Literal Reign Of Terror In Hollywood For 30 Years

via bbc.com

Who: Harvey Weinstein is one of today’s most prolific film producers in the industry. He was pretty much behind the Hollywood we've all known for the past thirty or so years.

His Sin: Since October 2017, over 80 different women have come forward with allegations about Weinstein’s inappropriate behavior, ranging from uncomfortable moments to straight-up criminal acts. Famous names like Cara Delevingne, Kate Beckinsale, Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, and many others have come forward with shocking stories about his behavior. Weinstein was then fired from the production company he founded and expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Police in New York, Los Angeles, and London are looking into the allegations.

Condemn or Forgive: He’s condemned forever, as he should be. Boy, bye.

14 Lindsay Lohan’s Sin: Being A Train Wreck For Far, Far Too Long

via cnn.com

Who: Lindsay Lohan was dubbed one of the most talented actresses of her generation. In 1998, she starred in The Parent Trap and played two roles, which was quite a task for someone who wasn’t even a teenager yet. Lohan went on to appear in Freaky Friday and Mean Girls, the latter of which is pretty much the greatest film ever. Lohan was supposed to become a huge star after this and then she didn’t.

Her Sin: Like Britney Spears, Lohan had a difficult 2007. The year was riddled with DUI charges, several different stays in rehab, and a short stint in jail. The difference between Spears and Lohan is that Spears bounced back.

Furthermore, Lohan recently made odd comments in defense of Harvey Weinstein and that's really not a good look.

Condemn or Forgive: We can forgive but we will never forget. Some have recently said Lohan is “back,” as she seemingly looks more put together. But how many times have we heard this?

13 Kylie Jenner’s Sin: Disappearing On Us All For Months (Not Cool, Kylie)

via thisinsider.com

Who: Kylie Jenner is the youngest Kardashian/Jenner, who just so happens to be sitting on top of a lip kit empire.

Her Sin: She disappeared, y'all. After TMZ broke the news that Jenner was pregnant, she went into hiding. She left us high and dry.

Finally, by the grace of Kris Jenner, Queen Kylie returned to us. On Super Bowl Sunday, Jenner took to Instagram to announce she gave birth to a little girl and to thank fans for their patience. Honestly, I don’t even know why they still played football or whatever it is that they did at the Super Bowl. This was the news of the day!

Condemn or Forgive: Obviously everyone forgives Kylie. We just missed her. Never leave us again, Kylie.

12 Katherine Heigl’s Sin: Bad Mouthing ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Creator Shonda Rhimes

via popsugar.com

Who: Katherine Heigl became mega-famous for playing the emotional Izzie Stevens on Grey’s Anatomy. Then, 2008 saw her in 27 Dresses and 2009, The Ugly Truth.

Her Sin: It's plain and simple. Heigl didn’t know where her bread was buttered.

The year after Heigl won her Emmy Award, she personally took her name of contention for the award, citing a poor storyline.

Eventually, Heigl was written off Grey’s Anatomy and her career has suffered ever since. In a recent interview about the Scandal cast, Rhimes straight-up said, “I don’t put up with... nasty people. ...There are no Heigls in this situation.”

Condemn or Forgive: While the public has forgiven Heigl, it’s unlikely Rhimes or Hollywood ever really will. It seems Heigl’s career has been condemned.

11 James Franco’s Sin: #MeToo Stories From Five Different Women

via scarymommy.com

Who: James Franco is our half hunk, half weirdo. In 2001, Franco gained fame by playing Daniel Desario in Freaks and Geeks. Since then, Franco's quirky personality has continued to confuse women everywhere.

His Sin: Franco showed up to the 2018 Golden Globes wearing black and a Time’s Up pin. After winning an award for his performance in The Disaster Artist, five different women came forward with #MeToo allegations against Franco. Though, one woman who details a situation went on to be in a consensual relationship with Franco. Another accuser said, “James is absolutely not a Harvey Weinstein.”

Condemn or Forgive: Probably forgive. Many Hollywood men who had been accused of serious acts have been dropped from their projects. Franco hasn’t been dropped from HBO’s The Deuce, so that's a good sign for him career-wise. It’s likely all will continue on as usual for Franco.

10 Selena Gomez' Sin: Getting Back Together With Her Ex

via popsugar.com

Who: Many former Disney stars – Miley Cyrus, Britney Spears – have gone on to be successful, but Selena Gomez may be the most successful at the moment.

Her Sin: She committed the same sin that many of us sadly commit. She got back together with her ex and bad boy Justin Bieber. I mean, if SELENA GOMEZ can’t keep it together, how are we expect to?

The on-again, off-again couple dated from 2010 through 2012 but remained friends. In 2014, the pair got back together briefly, only to break up again. Gomez started dating The Weeknd but, then broke up with The Weeknd and got back with Beiber.

Condemn or Forgive: Selena Gomez is already forgiven. This just means that the sad truth is that some can't resist their ex, not even the most followed woman on Instagram.

9 Justin Bieber’s Sin: Literally Everything He Did Between 2012 – 2014

via people.com

Who: Speaking of the devil, let’s talk about Justin Bieber. Ever since he released his first single "One Time" he has been dubbed the Prince of Pop.

His Sin: Here’s a list of things Bieber has been accused of: DUI, reckless driving, throwing eggs at a neighbor’s house, vandalism, and resisting arrest, among other things. His behavior was so poor that over 270,000 signed a petition to have him deported from the U.S. He’s even been banned from performing in China.

Condemn or Forgive: We’ve already forgiven him. In 2015, Bieber did an unofficial apology tour. Plus, his 2015 album Purpose was really catchy and society will totally let you get away with a few things if you have a catchy pop album. What this means is that fans still love him but they will never forget.

8 Justin Timberlake’s Sin: This Whole ‘Man Of The Woods’ Thing That He's Doing

via pitchfork.com

Who: From one Justin to another, we now have ol’ Justin Timberlake. He originally rose to fame in the late ‘90s and early 2000s as a part – probably the best part – of NSYNC.

His Sin: With his latest album, Timberlake’s music is still relatively the same, if a little uninspired, but his look is… new. He’s been wearing flannel and hanging out in pickup trucks. His Super Bowl halftime show outfit: a camo two-piece suit (why?), a red bandana around his neck, and a t-shirt with deer on it...

Condemn or Forgive: Can I vote reinvent? Timberlake likely won’t be condemned because he likes to chop wood now. However, it’s clear that Timberlake needs to figure out what his brand will be in the coming years.

7 Gwyneth Paltrow’s Sin: Launching Her Lifestyle Brand GOOP

via people.com

Who: Gwyneth Paltrow is an Oscar-winning actress who just looks like money. Seriously, everything about Paltrow – her skin, her hair, her smile, her voice – just screams wealth and privilege. Still, people like Paltrow.

Her Sin: Paltrow committed the biggest sin of all: admitting she’s better than us. Well, not better than us per se, but Paltrow’s vocal about what she does to maintain her figure, her skin, and her overall moneyed look.

Condemn or Forgive: Both, it just depends what side of the debate you fall into. Paltrow is not and will never be seen as a relatable celebrity, which rubs some the wrong way. However, GOOP has developed such a strong following that the brand released a magazine.

6 Jennifer Lawrence’s Sin: Claiming To Be “Just Like You” When She’s Not At All

via cnbc.com

Who: America’s sweetheart Jennifer Lawrence isn’t even 30 years old, yet she’s already snagged herself an Academy Award, three Academy Award nominations, and starred the X-Men and The Hunger Games franchises. The girl on fire.

Her Sin: Lawrence’s sin is the complete opposite of Paltrow’s sin. While Paltrow is comfortable in saying that she’s a celeb who only eats kale and meditates 20 hours a day, Lawrence crafted a brand of being "just like us." Do us normies have millions of dollars, famous boyfriends, or Emma Stone’s direct number? No.

Condemn or Forgive: It depends on Lawrence’s next move. She recently announced that she plans on taking a break from acting, getting a farm, and milking goats. But let us be clear, getting a farm and milking goats definitely means she’s not “just like us.”

5 Matt Lauer’s Sin: 'The Today Show' Host Was Exposed As A Total Creeper

via foxnews.com

Who: Matt Lauer’s known to most as the co-host of The Today Show from 1997 – 2007.

His Sin: In November 2017, Lauer was terminated from NBC when reports of misconduct arose. This included over 10 former or current colleagues who reported inappropriate behavior on Lauer’s part.

Condemn or Forgive: Condemned. Someone in another field may be able to bounce back from these allegations. Louis C.K., for example, may eventually bounce back from his own allegations because he’s a comedian and their reputations are permitted to be a bit seedier. Lauer, on the other hand, is a television host and their reputations have to be squeaky clean, as they are their own brand. Don’t feel too bad for him, though. NBC reportedly paid him over $100 million throughout the years. He’ll be able to eat.

4 Mary-Kate And Ashley Olsen’s Sin: Turning Their Backs On Their 'Full House' Family

via vogue.com

Who: Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen got their start from the show Full House. They are definitely the most fashionable twins in the world and possibly the wealthiest twins in the world.

Their Sin: When Fuller House launched on Netflix, the show successfully brought back all the main cast members of the original series… except for Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. The twins have since stayed firm and have yet to appear on any of the three seasons of the show. This could not only be seen as a ‘bite the hand that feeds you’ situation, but it also distances the Olsen twins even further from their original fan base.

Condemn or Forgive: Totally forgive. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have worked their entire lives to shed the image of Michelle Tanner. To appear on Fuller House would undo all of the hard work they put into transforming their reputations and brand.

3 Katy Perry’s Sin: Her Latest Album Was Very Catty And Also Not Very Good

via thedailybeast.com

Who: In the past decade, Katy Perry has forged a successful pop career. With hits like “I Kissed a Girl,” and “Teenage Dream,” it seemed like you could count on Perry to release a pop album with some true bops on it.

Her Sin: Taylor Swift and Perry have been feuding for years at this point. The two used to be close, but someone stole someone’s backup dancer and blah, blah, blah. After Swift’s “Bad Blood” was allegedly about Perry, Perry retaliated with “Swish Swish.” The song fell flat and Perry just looked petty.

Condemn or Forgive: Forgive, with one condition. Perry must end the Swift war or, at least, stop taking digs at Swift. Also, girlfriend needs to release some better music. I mean...

2 Shia LaBeouf’s Sin: Going From Heartthrob To Weirdo

via nydailynews.com

Who: Shia LaBeouf is most famous for his role in Transformers.

His Sin: After 2007, Hollywood was handed to LaBeouf. He had his pick of roles. He was supposed to become the new heartthrob. And then he didn’t. Instead, LaBeouf racked up a slew of arrests for disorderly conduct. In many of these situations, LaBeouf resisted arrest and, in one case, spat on an officer. He’s been in treatment for anger management and alcoholism.

Condemn or Forgive: LaBeouf could likely get his career back on track, but he completely ruined his chance to be the heartthrob of our dreams. Shame on you, Shia.

1 Brad Pitt And Angelina Jolie’s Sin: Ruining A Marriage

via okmagazine.com

Who: Brad Pitt was married to Jennifer Aniston and they were America’s golden couple. While filming Mr. and Mrs. Smith in 2005, Pitt fell for Jolie, subsequently broke off his marriage to Aniston, and had a million babies with Jolie.

Their Sin: The 2016 announcement of their divorce left many shook. How could they do this to us? And more importantly, how could they do this to Jen? Aniston was put through very public heartache. To make matters worse, Jolie is being portrayed as cold and controlling, while there are rumors of Pitt’s alcoholism and an affair with Marion Cotillard. It’s a train wreck that none of us wanted to watch and we’ve now been watching since 2005.

Condemn or Forgive: Forgive, because no one can stay mad at people who are this good looking, no matter how much they toy with our emotions.
