Insurance is used to protect against a financial loss, and for most of us, that means insuring various possessions like a home, a car, or even an expensive phone. But for celebrities, insurance takes on a whole new meaning. It’s not only their possessions they are wanting to keep safe from harm but also their body parts, because they see these as their money makers. If you think about it, a celebrity's physical appearance is their source of income, and they believe that if something happened to say, their teeth, that would result in a loss of earnings.

It may seem absurd, but it’s actually true. Over the years some of the most popular celebrities in the world have decided to insure various body parts for upwards of millions, and almost billions of dollars (imagine thinking your behind was valued at $27 million?). And while some celebs have insured things that they actually need, for example, their vocal chords, others are more concerned with their teeth, their rear end, or even their tongue.

But why just one body part? Well, you’d have to ask the celebrities behind that decision, and below are 15 celebrities who insured their body parts for ridiculous amounts of money.

15 Mariah Carey’s Legs Cost A Fortune

Mariah Carey has enjoyed an incredibly successful career, and there is no denying that she has a serious set of pipes on her. So, it would make sense that she insured her vocal chords, but that was not the only part of her body that she reportedly decided to take a policy on. According to TMZ, in 2016, they revealed that along with her vocal chords, Carey had also insured her hamstrings and the total came to a cool $70 million.

The most interesting part of this insurance policy is that Carey didn’t value her voice as more important, but both her vocal chords and her hamstrings are reportedly worth $35 million each. And while her premiums are in the thousands, this decision is obviously one that she thinks is vital.

14 Heidi Klum’s Legs Are Her Million Dollar Assets

Heidi Klum is a supermodel, so of all the body parts that she could insure, it makes sense that she chose her legs. Klum’s legs are reportedly worth $2 million, however, they are not both valued at the same amount.

According to Vogue, Klum spoke out about the insurance policy, telling Showbiz Spy that she did not personally insure them, but one of her clients did. She added, "Basically, I was in London, and I had to go to this place where they check out your legs. They would look at them and I had one scar here from when I fell on a glass, so this [left leg] isn't as pricey and this [right] one."

And in 2017, Klum told People magazine that she loves showing off her legs and wearing super short skirts, so she’s clearly proud of these assets.

13 Jennifer Lopez’s Love Don't Cost A Thing, But Her Body Parts Do

There are a lot of celebs who are famous because of their rear-end, with some of the most well-known names being Kim Kardashian and Nicki Minaj. But it was Jennifer Lopez who was really the first star whose rearview the world became obsessed with, which is probably why it’s rumored to have been insured for $27 million!

And while it’s been widely reported that Lopez has one of the most valuable behinds on the planet, in 2016 she told James Corden during an episode of Carpool Karaoke that there is not as much truth to the rumors as we would like to believe. Answering his question about whether she got insurance, she said, "No! There is no such thing as that. I think there is a place in your homeland [England] where you can insure certain things, parts of your body – seriously. I think that exists. I’ve heard that. Not here, I don’t think!"

12 Rihanna’s Legs Are Worth More Than Diamonds

Rihanna is one of the most beautiful women in the world, but it’s not her face that she has put a value on, but rather her legs. According to reports, Rihanna’s legs are worth $1 million, a decision she is reported to have made after being presented with Gillette's Venus Breeze Celebrity Legs of a Goddess award in 2007.

Not too much else is known about this insurance policy, and Rihanna herself doesn’t appear to be vocal about insuring her assets, if the rumors are to be believed. But with so many taking notice of her legs, and considering that she is a performer, it certainly is not the most ridiculous body part to insure, even if they are valued at a completely ridiculous price.

11 Taylor Swift’s Legs Are Her Prized Possessions

Another celebrity rumored to have insured a body part is Taylor Swift, and according to reports, her legs are insured for $40 million.

The news was first reported in 2015, and Swift’s decision reportedly came about while she was promoting her album, 1989. According to Shape magazine, the singer wanted to ensure that if anything happened to her while she was performing that she would not lose out financially.

And Daily Mail revealed that Swift reportedly did the insurance with Lloyd’s of London. An underwriter Jonathan Thomas told FEMAIL, “Taylor Swift’s income-generating capacity is hugely dependent upon her stage presence and thus her exceptional legs are indeed very likely worth millions of dollars of insurance.” So, if the rumors are true, then this would certainly be a smart (albeit pricey) move on Swift’s part.

10 Tina Turner’ Legs Fetch A Hefty Price Tag

Now, one thing I can say for Tina Turner and her legs, is that she definitely knew how to move, and not only were her legs insanely gorgeous, but she was also a superb performer. Plus, she wore short skirts and dresses (basically clothing to show off her long legs), so people definitely took notice.

So then if she was to insure a body part, one of the more obvious ones would be her legs, and apparently, that is just what Turner did. According to reports, she insured her legs for the outrageous sum of $3.2 million.

During a 2005 interview with Oprah Winfrey, she was complimented on her legs, and Winfrey noted that her legs were not just long, they were stunning. To which Turner replied, “I never put a lot of praise on myself because of my relationship with Ike. I was just happy when I started to like myself—when I divorced and took control of my life.” Basically, she didn’t even realize how beautiful she was.

9 Miley Cyrus’ Tongue Is Annoying, But Worth A Million

When Miley Cyrus was so desperately trying to shed her Disney image she started dressing provocatively, acting strangely, and sticking out her tongue. A lot. Which is why it comes as no surprise that there are reports about Cyrus’ tongue being worth $1 million -- which is then worth the same amount as Gene Simmons’ tongue, and there is something about that just doesn’t sit right.

Although there is no concrete evidence about whether or not Cyrus did insure her tongue, there has certainly been enough tabloid chatter about it. In 2013, according to a Heat magazine source, via International Business Times, a source told them, "Miley's totally aware of how her tongue is getting more headlines than she is, and getting it insured is just part of her trademarked image."

8 Gene Simmon’s Tongue Is More Than Just Recognizable

KISS rock star Gene Simmons definitely has the most recognizable tongue in Hollywood -- it’s also one of the longest tongues anyone has ever seen! So, what did he decide to do? He reportedly insured it for $1 million, of course.

Simmons is always willing to give a photo opportunity of his tongue, and while many people know all about his tongue, it seems not too much has been reported about its insurance policy. What I can say about the subject is that it is most certainly one of the most bizarre body parts to insure and there are a lot of people in this world who would agree -- even if he does sing lead vocals. According to Fox Business, Simmons’ alleged insurance policy was even deserving of a spot of their “Weirdest Insurance Policies” list.

7 America Ferrera Has A Winning Smile

America Ferrera is beloved for her role in American comedy series, Ugly Betty, in which she plays the role of Betty Suarez -- who had some of the most awkward and uncomfortable looking braces ever seen on television. Seriously, that poor girl!

In real life, however, she has a killer smile, and it’s apparently worth $10 million. According to Reuters, Ferrera’s teeth were insured with British insurance firm Lloyd’s on behalf of home teeth-whitening brand, Aquafresh White Trays. So, the actress’ inclusion on this list is a little different, because she didn’t actually take the policy out herself. That said, she was very pleased.

She is reported as saying, "It’s very flattering to have my smile insured for $10 million, it’s not something that I ever imagined happening."

6 Dolly Parton’s Chest Does More Than Turn Heads

Country music legend Dolly Parton’s chest definitely demands attention. She is reported as having a chest that is a 40DD, and on her tiny frame, this makes them appear even larger than they really are. It has been reported that Parton insured her chest for $600,000 -- $300,000 per breast.

And although Parton’s insurance policy is a lot less than some of the others on this list, it’s still a whopping amount to place on her assets, which are not real BTW. Parton has previously spoken about her procedure, something which she has absolutely no shame in admitting. She told InTouch Weekly, “Anybody that’s got the nerve, desire and the money to have [work done], should find a good doctor and just do it.”

Some of her procedures reportedly include botox, liposuction, implants, and fillers.

5 Holly Madison’s Upper Body Is Her Money Makers

Former Playboy playmate and reality TV star, Holly Madison insured her chest for a whopping $1 million. And since she has got her fame from posing nude in the magazine, as well as later during her Las Vegas show, it’s not surprising why she chose this part of her body to insure.

According to People magazine, Madison took the policy with Lloyd’s of London in 2011. She also spoke out about her decision, telling the publication, “I’ve heard about people getting body parts insured and I thought, why not? because if anything happened to my boobs, I’d be out for a few months and I’d probably be out a million dollars. I thought I’d cover my assets.” I think Madison probably views this as money well-spent.

4 Julia Robert’s Has A Multi-Million Dollar Smile

There’s a saying that you cannot put a price on a beautiful smile, but if the reports about Julia Robert’s smile are true, then it seems you can, and that figure is whopping! Her teeth are just the right shade of white (she previously told StyleCaster that she brushes her teeth with baking soda) and perfectly aligned, and she is always willing to show them off during a photo opportunity. So maybe that makes the rumor that she allegedly insured her smile for $30 million a little more believable -- nope, who are we kidding, it’s a ridiculous sum of money to place on a smile, even if it is one of the most beautiful and warm smiles around.

One thing we cannot deny is that Robert’s smile is a big money maker, and apart from her films, she has reportedly also made $1.5 million off a Lavazza advert, and the only thing she does in it is sips coffee and grin.

3 Kylie Minogue’s Behind Is Admired

Another celebrity on this list to have reportedly insured their behind is Australian singer, Kylie Minogue. And if rumors are to be believed, then her behind is reportedly worth $5 million.

Over the years a lot of fuss has been made of Minogue’s derriere, and she has definitely got a lot of attention for it, including in 2014, when she was voted as having the “Best Butt In The UK” -- and she’s not shy when it comes to showing it off.

The singer is also regularly asked about her most famous asset during interviews, and she has previously revealed that it has a life of its own. She once said, "I think of my bottom as something entirely separate to me." And she has the fact that she has been “dancing around in very high heels” for most of her life, to thank for its appearance.

2 Tom Jones’ Is Really Proud Of His Chest Hair

The weirdest body part on this list to be insured (at least in my opinion) belongs to Tom Jones, who is reported to have insured his chest hair -- yes, you read that correctly -- for $7 million.

It’s no secret that Jones prefers his shirts off, rather than on, or at the very least he likes them open to expose his chest hair, and boy, is there a lot of it. But apparently, this chest hair means more to Jones than we thought. According to reports, Jones took the policy out with Lloyd's of London -- the same company that has already appeared several times on this list for insuring strange parts of celebrities. And according to New York Daily News, the company revealed on their website in 2006 that they had insured a celebrities chest hair, and that celebrity has since been revealed as Jones.

1 Keith Richards’ Hands Are More Than Unique

Most people know Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards for his long and prosperous career in the music industry, but he is also recognizable for his hands -- it helps that he is always willing to pose for a photo with the middle finger flipped.

Richards has very interesting hands, and apart from him obviously needing them to produce a living -- he is a guitarist, after all -- people also seem fascinated by his fingers (he is also reported as having osteoarthritis in his fingers, a form of arthritis).

Richards' hands are reportedly insured against damages for $1.6 million, and the policy was done through, you guessed it, Lloyd’s of London. The company’s website mentions Richard's’ name, along with other policyholders including the late James Dean, Dolly Parton, and Ben Turpin.
