Rest in peace Joan Rivers, who used to be known as the queen of getting work done. While she was making fun of other people, some folks were making fun of her and all the work she’d had done. In fact, the comic genius passed on a few years ago, according to reports, while she was headed into a procedure to have some more work done. According to her own book, The Book of Joan, she had more than 300 procedures during her lifetime.
But behind the Hollywood curtain, there are dozens more who have spent thousands and even hundreds of thousands of dollars having work done to their noses, chins, lips, upper body, and other parts of their bodies. Over the years, the practice has spread into the public, and especially the trend of having one’s rear enhanced. While some people – ladies especially – once worked to have a flat behind, now they pay a doctor to make it bigger. Go figure!
Nowadays, there are doctors in Los Angeles whose whole practices depend on the penchant of celebrities to enhance their looks and, of course, stay looking young.
According to research, Americans spent a whopping $16 billion on cosmetic work in 2016. Enhancements outpace any other type, says the report, with nose jobs right behind. In fact, the cost of implants went down by 3 percent, while nose work went up 6 percent.
Indeed, it’s a trend that physicians predict will continue to grow, as it’s not associated with shame anymore. Some celebrities even post their final results on social media, proudly displaying the alterations they hope will make them more famous and more richer, not necessarily in that order!
Some have spent what it costs to buy a great house and have even gotten into seven figures – that’s a million bucks – to have work done.
Iconic singer Cher has touted a lean frame since her early days with one time husband and entertainment partner Sonny Bono. In fact, one of her trademarks was (and still is to a certain extent) her dazzling body-fitting outfits. It looked as if they were painted on her. Over more than five decades of entertaining, she has had to work to keep that lean frame, and that has meant she has had liposuction and body sculpting. Add in Botox, an eyelid procedure, and other cosmetic alterations, and the “Believe” singer has spent an estimated $750,000 - $1 mil on trying to keep looking good. During a recent interview on CNN, Cher said that she weighed about 106 most of her adult life, but in recent years, she’s gone up to a whopping 126.
Kris Jenner, once wife to Bruce Jenner turned Caitlyn Jenner and once wife to Robert Kardashian, has skillfully turned her family into a multi-million operation. So it’s only fitting that the 60-year-old mom should look as gorgeous as her famous and infamous daughters. The estimates vary, but it’s not difficult to imagine she’s spent about a million bucks on Botox, chest augmentation, fillers, and possibly a nose job for starters. Jenner also has admitted in interviews that she’s had work done using lasers. Apparently all the operations and infusions are working, as she has been able to attract and keep a much younger man in Corey Gamble, who is 33. Jenner turns 61 in November. While rumors had floated around earlier this year that the two were split up, they were seen as recent as July vacationing together in St. Tropez.
If there was anyone that’s had more work than Joan Rivers did, it’s Jocelyn Wildenstein. The 77-year-old socialite over the years received the nickname “Catwoman” because of the impact on her face from a lot of cosmetic work. That includes facelifts, eye reconstruction, collagen injections, and more, all with the hefty price tag of about $2 million or more overall. She “has had so much [work done] that her face has become distorted,” wrote Life & Style magazine late last year. “And it’s gone from bad to worse. It’s hard to tell if Jocelyn has been trying to correct certain procedures all this time, or if she’s just so addicted she can’t stop.” No matter, it seems Wildenstein can still find love. In July, Lloyd Klein proposed to her with a ring said to be worth millions. The ring is said to be so expensive that Wildenstein can only wear it on certain occasions and with at least one bodyguard present.
A lot of people might not know that Caitlyn Jenner was once a gold medal winning Olympic athlete. Most people associate Jenner with the whole Kardashian scene. It’s hard to imagine someone upstaging Kim Kardashian, but Jenner did, and it turned into a $4 million deal that practically happened before our eyes. What was done that amounted to $4 mil? The question is more like… what wasn’t done? The major things, of course, included gender reassignment, which basically means the “man” parts were removed and replaced with “female” parts. Another big aspect was what is called facial feminization procedure. Other operations entailed a facelift, nose job, laser hair removal, Adam’s apple removed and implants. Right after Jenner came out on the cover of Vanity Fair as a woman, Forbes posed the question: “Will Caitlyn Jenner’s Gender Reassignment Costs Be Tax Deductible?” A lengthy article from the business magazine answered that question with a kind of "yes," with the main point seemingly that it can be, as long as it wasn’t done for cosmetic reasons.
When Beyoncé released her Lemonade project, there was a lot of talk about her hubby’s cheating ways, especially when the line “Becky with the good hair” was used to refer to one of his possible extramarital affairs. A lot of folks speculated that Becky was actually singer/songwriter Rita Ora. According to several British tabloids, the former X Factor (British version) judge, had work done on her nose and chest, and also had Botox at the cost of $30,000. Indeed, her transformation seems to have been startling, so much so that social media went bananas and declared that Ora had “ruined herself.” According to the Mirror, comments on social media included: “OK what the hell happened to Rita Ora's face?” and “No hate but have you had something done to your face… your latest Instagram pics just look different.”
Demi Moore is 54, but she is showing no signs of slowing down. In fact, the G.I. Jane and Ghost actress, who also once played one of “Charlie’s Angels,” has a recurring role on arguably TV’s hottest show – Empire – this new season. She plays a character named Claudia, who is a nurse to Terrence Howard’s character Luscious. (By the way, daughter Rumer Willis also has a role in Empire.) Moore still looks great, and while she does work out and maintain certain beauty regimens, she’s had some help from cosmetic procedures. It’s not confirmed, but rumors are that the former wife of Bruce Willis aKutchern Kutchner (and Freddie Moore back in the '80s) has had extensive work done amounting to about $500,000. That includes implants, liposuction, work done on saggy knees, Botox, fillers, and wrinkle removal procedures.
Although it's claimed she only spent $30,000, Heidi Montag actually admits having 10 changes in one day. Just last year, she told People: “I was in way over my head with the [this]. I had no idea what I was getting into or that it was a lifelong commitment. It was very challenging, both physically, emotionally, spiritually, mentally, on my husband and on our lives.” Montag is married to Spencer Pratt. Her procedures and body adjustments included a new chest (which she has since removed), pinned back ears, a nose job, and fat injections to her face. Pratt himself admits that he didn’t realize the damage that could be done. Montag told ET Online that her character on the Hills MTV show was part of what drove her to an obsession with cosmetics. “I think that I just became so consumed by this character that I was playing that I became that girl and lost track of this small-town Colorado girl,” she said. Montag also said she will never go under the knife again.
Kim Kardashian-West has had two babies with husband Kanye West. And since she worked so hard, along with the help of some cosmetic procedures, to get her shape back, she’s not risking her body for her third baby and the couple is using a surrogate to have a third child. The Kardashians are well-known for getting their bums enhanced, and Kim is also known to have had extensive work done on other parts as well. Estimates go at about $80,000 worth of work that includes stretch mark removal, fat reducing ultrasound, a nose job, liposuction on hips and waist, and a boob job. Some also believe she’s had a hairline lift and has had cheek fillers. By the way, it looks like Kim’s younger sister Kylie is going to have a baby of her own. The father is reportedly rapper Travis Scott. And now there is news that sister Khloe is also pregnant.
Word is that Rumer Willis, who is a current cast member of Fox’s hit show Empire, is living with her mom, Demi Moore, who also recently began a stint on the Black music-oriented show. And it seems, like mother like daughter when it comes to getting work done. Reports have Rumer spending about $100,000 on procedures to enhance her looks that include lip fillers, chin shaving, and liposuction. In an interview with Life & Style, the 29-year-old actress says she’s not ashamed to have work done: "And if it's going to make me feel better, I won't be ashamed of the choices that I make.” Rumer said that until she was on Dancing With The Stars, she sometimes has a problem with self-esteem. But being on the show gave her a higher level of confidence.
With social media and reality TV, there are folks who really don’t have a talent who make the big time. Sharon Osbourne is one of those people. She came into the spotlight as the zany wife of even zanier rocker Ozzy Osbourne, then managed to build her own following. Today she is one of the regulars on The Talk, and occasionally makes guest appearances on other shows. Osbourne doesn’t shy away from questions about cosmetic procedures. She’s actually copped to it, saying not much on her body hasn’t been tweaked. The estimates on the work, which includes arms and legs lifted, a tummy tuck, a neck lift, gastric band fitted, double mastectomy, and more, run at about $185,000. Osbourne said recently that she doesn’t intend to go under the knife for cosmetic reasons ever again.
Comic Kathy Griffin is a no holds barred kind of gal. After all, this is the lady who made headlines recently for posting a photo of her and President Donald Trump's head. So it’s no surprise she has spoken candidly about the $30,000 worth of work she’s undergone. That includes chemical peels, eyelid and brow lifting, and a nose job, which she says she got at age 26 when a lot of people told her she’d be prettier and get more work if her nose was smaller. In her book, A Memoir According to Kathy Griffin, she recalls how she almost died when a liposuction procedure went bad. She actually included photos in the book because as she said, “I want women to know that this is what lipo looks like… like are you sure you don’t want to just work out a little more?”
Roseanne Barr’s hit TV show was based on a frumpy housewife from middle America. But as the star’s power and money grew, so did she, literally. When the self-proclaimed "domestic goddess" reached 350 pounds, she had a gastric bypass, a tummy tuck, reduction, rhinoplasty, a facelift, and cheek implants, all for about $45,000. But it wasn’t that simple. According to Kalos in Atlanta, some of those procedures had to accompany the gastric bypass procedure to repair some of the damage her excess weight caused, such as the stretching of the skin. For example, she had neck liposuction to remove the excess fat around her neck, which was accompanied by a neck lift. Roseanne is headed back to TV with a “Roseanne” reboot. And already there is a bit of controversy as Roseanne’s grandchild from Darlene and David is apparently genderfluid, which already has the American Family Association calling for a boycott. The new show will begin airing on ABC some time next year.
When you’re a heartthrob, you have to stay looking good, no matter what age or stress does to you. Singer Tom Jones, who has been wooing women since the ‘60s, admitted years ago that he had work done on his eyes, chin, and nose to the tune of about $46,000. But it became an obsession and he reportedly was given a warning that his face would collapse if he had more done. Jones’ first procedure was in 1972 when he had a nose job. Today at 77, the iconic singer still performs. However, his most recent U.S. tour has been postponed for health issues. He was set to go on tour this month (September), but the upcoming dates have now been rescheduled for May and June of 2018. Jones’ biggest hits included “It’s Not Unusual.” The singer recently lost his wife Linda… they were married for 57 years.
At 73, Barry Manilow still performs and makes appearances. The pop singer/songwriter has reportedly had work done over the years amounting to about $70,000. According to various media reports over the years, the “Mandy” singer has had work done on his nose, had a facelift, had cheek implants, and also went through an eyelid procedure. Even recently, Manilow reportedly received Botox. Earlier this year, he revealed he is gay (big surprise) and that he had secretly married his longtime manager, Garry Kief. Although the two met way back in 1978, they didn’t officially tie the knot until 2014 when they married in Palm Springs, California, at the palatial estate they share. Manilow said he kept his orientation and relationship secret for years because he was afraid of how his fans would react. But, he recently told CNN, when the news got out, most of his fans seemed genuinely happy for him.
Vivica A. Fox has reportedly spent as much as $26,000 on getting work done and body enhancements that include a nose job, chest work, Botox and lip injections. The actress, best known for her work in Kill Bill, Independence Day, and Set It Off, and as a former lover of rapper and TV producer 50 Cent, has only admitted, however, that she had implants and Botox injections. Fox currently has three films in post-production slated for release in 2018, including Mr. Malevolent, Cool Cat the Kids Superhero, and Crossbreed, where she plays the president. The 53-year-old also tried her hand recently at producing an all Black male revue. Vivica’s Black Magic was on the Lifetime network during its development, but was canceled earlier this year.
