Anyone with loads of money should probably get a prenuptial agreement, especially celebrities, to protect the money they have worked so hard for. But then again, what does signing a prenup really say about your love for the other person or your relationship with them? I guess it would be the smart thing to sign a prenup just in case the marriage doesn’t work out. But at the same time, doesn’t signing a prenup say that you think there’s a really good chance your relationship won’t make it? If two people really love each other, wouldn’t they believe that they will stay together forever? However, I could understand celebrities and other people with a lot of money being afraid that they are just being used for their money, and wanting to protect it. But then, why get married?
Here are 14 celebrity couples with weird prenuptial agreements!
14. Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel
In their prenuptial agreement, it says that if Timberlake cheats on her, he will give her $500,000. Biel is afraid that he will cheat on her if she gets fat. However, I don’t think she has anything to worry about considering how good she looked after giving birth to their son. It makes sense for all celebrity couples to get prenups since most celebrity marriages end in divorce. But what does that say about their relationship if she doesn’t trust him enough to believe he won’t cheat on her?
13. Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman
After Kidman’s advisers insisted she get a prenup, she and Keith agreed that he would earn $640,000 for every year of marriage. However, since he was once addicted to cocaine, the prenup says that if he ever uses any illegal drugs, he won’t get any of his earnings. That’s one way to make sure he stays clean.
12. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West
Kim and Kanye’s prenup is really strange because they don’t have a child custody clause. But Kanye did include a part that says Kris Jenner is not allowed to make career decisions that affect the couple. If they get divorced, Kim gets to keep her wedding ring along with all other gifts Kanye gave her. She also gets $1 million for every year she was married to Kanye. And she gets to keep her income from her clothing lines, TV show, and appearances.
11. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie
If Pitt cheats, Jolie will get primary custody of all of their kids. Jolie does always seem like she is the one who wants to keep adopting all of those kids, but you would think Pitt would put up a little more of a fight to get at least shared custody of the kids. Do you think Jolie put an infidelity clause in their prenup because he cheated on Jennifer Aniston with Jolie? Because he does deny ever cheating. You know what they say: once a cheater, always a cheater.
10. Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones
On top of getting $2.8 million for every year that she was married to Douglas, Jones would get another $5 million bonus if she caught Douglas cheating. That’s a heavy fee for infidelity. The couple has been married for over 15 years, although they were separated briefly. It’s amazing how much money celebrity women ask for in case of a divorce. Douglas has an impressive net worth, but $2.8 million a year is a lot.
9. Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan
This couple’s prenup isn’t about the money like most other celebrity prenups. Theirs has a lifestyle clause, which makes sure that Chan gets 100 minutes of alone time with Zuckerberg and one date night per week. During their alone time together, neither Chan nor Zuckerberg is allowed to get on Facebook. Their prenup is much sweeter than other couple’s, and it is a good way to make sure they get ample time together. However, it’s kind of sad to think that they need a legal binding contract to make sure they get time together.
8. Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren
Before he cheated, Nordegren was only going to be left with $20 million. However, once he cheated and they negotiated, she settled for a whopping $110 million. During negotiations, Woods offered to give Nordegren a $200 million prenup if she would take him back. He must have felt really bad about cheating on her if he was willing to give her that big of a prenup.
7. Lamar Odom and Khloe Kardashian
The Kardashians sure know how to earn money by doing nothing. Khloe and Odom had a prenup that left her with $2 million and then some. The $2 million was for the 4 years they were married ($500,000 for each year). She also gets court side seats to the Lakers games, a new car every single time the lease is up, a $5,000 a month shopping allowance, $25,000 a month for support, and $1,000 a month for beauty care. Oh, and she got the house.
6. Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo
The couple never got married, but a prenup was in the plans. Romo had the nerve to draw up a clause that would force Simpson to give him $500,000 for every pound she gained over 135 pounds. We’re guessing that the prenup agreement may have something to do with this relationship coming to an end.
5. Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes
The couple reportedly had a prenup that said that she would receive $3 million for every year that they were married, which couldn’t exceed $33 million, and if they would have stayed married for 11 years before getting divorced, she would have received half of his money. However, when they split, she only walked away with child support in the amount of $400,000 per year for their daughter Suri.
4. Britney Spears and Kevin Federline
Their prenup says that the wedding ceremony was alleged and that the wedding itself was faux. However, the couple got married in secret and when they split, he walked away with $1 million, which is small compared to how much money she has. Some people believe that maybe he really did love her since he didn’t try to get more money from her. But to Federline, a million dollars probably seemed like a sweet deal.
3. Denise Richards and Charlie Sheen
Their prenup included a $4 million payout if she caught Sheen cheating. This wasn’t the only one of his marriages to have a prenup with a cheating clause. My question is why do celebrity women marry men if they think there is a strong likelihood that he will cheat? Clearly, there isn’t a whole lot of trust going on in the relationship, so what is the marriage built on? A payout if he cheats?
2. Liz Taylor and Larry Fortensky
Fortensky made a prenup in which he got paid for being married to Taylor. Their prenup said that he would be entitled to $1 million after five years of marriage. His marriage to Taylor wasn’t his first marriage, so somewhere along the line he got the idea that it would be better to get paid to stay married rather than get paid when getting divorced. I think the only thing worse than getting divorced to receive a payday is to stay married to get a payday. How would you ever know if your marriage was lasting out of love or just because he would get paid if the marriage lasted a few years?
1. Beyoncé and Jay Z
Their prenup makes sure Beyoncé gets paid whether or not they get divorced as long as she has kids. Their prenup states that Beyoncé gets $5 million for every baby she has. She also gets $1 million for every year that they were married if they get divorced. It seems like Beyoncé knew what she was doing when they were making the prenup because she surely doesn’t need that much money.
