14 Makeup Tips To Make You Look Thin

In the world of beauty, there’s practically a makeup tip for anything. You can use it to replicate the flawless looks from your favourite celebs, ensure your Halloween costume wins best dressed, or to try your hand at covering up those stubborn problems, such as acne-prone skin, embarrassing blemishes and other makeup faux pas that have you feeling insecure.

Each year, as the makeup world evolves, new tricks and trends are always surfacing. Take 2015, for example, where the new contouring method baking was all the rage, as was over-lining the lips to make them like Kylie Jenner's. But despite this, there's still one age-old method that women everywhere have long been interested in: makeup tricks that will have them looking thin. Read on to learn more about these tips and tricks of the makeup trade that will finally put stubborn bloat in its place.

14 Define with contouring

Contouring is easily the most popular and well-known methods for making a person’s face appear thinner. This is because of the use of dark shades in certain areas that works in hiding trouble areas such as chubby cheeks or undefined jaw lines.

You can find a tutorial on the method pretty much anywhere, but the simple cheatsheet guide is this: choose a contouring colour that is darker than your skin colour (but not too much darker) and apply the powder in the hallow area of your cheeks (sucking in your face like a fish helps) on the round parts of either side of your forehead, underneath your chin on your jaw line and on your temples. Be sure to blend well so you’re not left with embarrassing brown steaks.

13 Have the right brow shape

Believe it or not, but having the right brow shape dramatically affects how slim or how full your face will appear. It will help balance out a round face through stretching vertically and the arch helps lift the face, similar to what a brow lift procedure would do.

The best brows for creating a thinner face are relatively thick with a high, defined arch. This will help lift the face, and it doesn't hurt to have arched brows as they better help frame the face. If you’re thinking of trying it out, visit a professional instead of doing it yourself as we all know the horrors that can come from over plucking.

12 Do a daily face massage

When you want a quick, simple way to lose bloat in the face, the best way to do that is through a five-minute lymph drainage massage. It sounds weird, but it’s super simple to do and actually works.

The technique involves massaging the face so that the excess fluid in your face and neck  drains out of the lympth nodes, therefore restoring balance by reducing the water retention in your face. In other words, it works to drain the parts of your face that holds onto water and makes you bloat.

Here’s a great tutorial on how to do it.

11 Get rid of dark eye circles

Undereye circles or puffy eyes don’t just make us look bigger than what we are—they also make us look tired and worn down, something that no one wants. To fix this, you can try the cold spoon method by leaving a spoon in the freezer and then holding it over each eye for a few minutes to dramatically reduce some of the puffiness.

If you're more inclined to go the makeup and product way, there’s a whole slew of creams and de-puffers out there. As for makeup, concealer works well to cover up tired eyes before you apply foundation and using white eyeliner in the inner crease of your eyes helps widen and brighten, making them look more awake.

10 Neck contouring

Neck contouring has been passed around on the Internet this week as a new and wacky way to achieve “slimmer, graceful-looking updos,” as it elongates the neck and therefore, makes you appear thinner. Instagram account user MakeupWearableHairstyles created quite the controversy when the video was posted to the account, with people slamming the tutorial for its ridiculous advice.

If you’re brave enough to try it, it involves swiping contour powder down either side of the back of the neck and patting highlighter down the middle.

9 Put the focus on your eyes

No one is even going to notice if your face is thin or bloated if your eyes are drawing in all the attention. The trick is to doing this is by playing up the eyes. By now, you probably already have a go-to beauty routine you do each day, but if you really want results that will have you feeling more confident, go a bit more dramatic with your eye makeup. Use eyeliner and mascara to make your eyes appear larger—the cat eye especially is good as it  sweeps the line upwards, drawing attention away from the sides of your face, which is often the widest.

Next, use eye shadows that best compliment your eye colour. For example, blue eyes go well with gold and pink shades; green eyes stand out with plum and copper; and brown eyes dazzle with purple, teal and blue shades.

8 Contour your nose

If having a big nose is one of your problem areas, then contouring is sure to become your new best friend. The method is so easy and well done that even beauty YouTuber, Carli Bybel, had viewers thinking she had a nose job when it was only just because her contouring was so well-done.

To recreate the look, apply contour powder down the sides of your nose and on either side of your nostrils. Blend, pushing the product up near the corners of your eyes and finish with a thin line of highlighter down the bridge of your nose for an all-over, glowy effect.

7 Dust on bronzer

Like contouring, bronzer is perfect for hiding trouble areas and for giving you the illusion of a nice tan. It's especially useful in the summer when you want that beach bronzed glow. Simply dust bronzer on the same areas where you applied contour or where you would apply contour, and blend well. You can even apply some to other areas you haven’t thought of, like along your collarbone, around your breasts (shimmery bronzer is best in this area as it’ll make your girls stand out), and down the sides of your neck to make it appear long and slimmer.

6 Fake a tan

This tip isn’t exactly makeup-related, per se, but having a deep, all-over tan will ensure you’re looking your slimmest. Body builder competitors do it all the time when they want their defined muscles to show off more while under the bright lights on stage.

While you want to avoid hitting the tanning salon, there are plenty of other ways to achieve an all-over glow. You can try a spray tanning salon or, if you're brave and feel up for the challenge, at-home tanners can be a more cost-effective way as long as you know how to use them properly.

5 Accentuate your best features with highlighter

To help elongate the face and draw attention away from the wider parts of your face, try highlighter. It’s a light, shimmery shade that comes in most contour kits, and it’s the perfect way to finish off a look and give you a bold pop. Apply the makeup to the inner corners of your eyes, in the middle of your forehead, in the cupid's bow of your lips, along your brows, down the center of your nose and underneath and above the areas on your cheeks where you contoured.

Not only will it give you that Victoria's Secret glow, but you’ll be loving the slim effect it gives.

4 Opt for light lipstick shades

When it comes to looking slim in the face, the lighter the shade of lipstick, the better. This is because dark shades tend to make you look heavier than you are, so go sans reds and plums. Instead, stick to light pinks and nudes as they don’t stand out as much and they extend and lengthen your lips, therefore making you look thinner.

If you're worried about your lips not standing out as much, apply lip liner over top to give them an extra pillowy fullness.

3 Prime your skin

If you’ve ever used primer before, you’ll know that the product dries up annoyingly fast before you even had a fair shot at rubbing it all in. Because of this, you may have stopped using it while applying your makeup, but it's time to pull that sucker out again as using it is just what you need to achieve the look of a thinner face.

All this boils down to the fact that tightening and brightening primers work to tighten your skin, as well as covering up things like puffiness, large pores and dry complexions. With it, your makeup will be kept in tact morning through night, and you'll feel confident with its slimming effects.

2 Elongate your face with blush

Blush is a tricky type of makeup to use: use too little and it won’t even be too noticeable; use too much and you’ll feel more like a red-cheeked clown than anything. But as long as you know how to strike a balance with the amount you use carefully, blush can be the perfect product for creating the illusion of a thinner face.

Author and beauty editor, Andrea Pomerantz Lustig, recommends using three types of colour on your cheeks: highlighter on top of your cheekbones, a cream blush colour on the apples of your cheeks and bronzer or contour powder underneath the cheekbone. She says that this will create the look of a slimmer face as it “gives the illusion of more lifted, angular cheekbones.”

1 Drink lots of water

Via: www.hidrateh2o.com

A bloated face can come from a myriad of reasons, whether it be from a night of drinking or a cheat meal that ended up lasting a week. All that matters is that now you've resorted to hiding in shame until the evidence on your face goes away.

No need. As we know, drinking lots of water is one of the number one makeup tips passed down from just about everyone: our mothers, our grandmothers, our sisters and especially all the gorgeous, young-looking celebs. It’s practically the holy grail of makeup tips, so if you want a slimmer face, load up on lots of water. Doing so helps to flush out the toxins and the body will retain onto less water in the body—and face—when you drink more. Say goodbye to bloat by opting for eight glasses a day.
