After recovering from the shock that was George Clooney tying the knot at the age of 57 (who was best known for being a lifelong bachelor), it only goes to show there’s still hope for other celebrities over 40 who have yet to hear wedding bells.
While some celebrities are perfectly happy flying their golden years solo, others still have plans to say their vows in the future. George Clooney, Jennifer Aniston, Salma Hayek and Mariska Hargitay are only a few of the A-List celebrities who’ve married over the age of 40, proving that there is no wrong age to find true love, eat vanilla frosted wedding cake and say “I do”.
So, which 14 celebrities over 40 have yet to bedazzle their left ring finger? Let’s find out who could be next in line, and who may prefer to live happily ever after— alone.
14 Oprah Winfrey
Oprah Winfrey, the entrepreneurial Queen and talk show host has yet to be married at the age of 62. However, she has been dating long-term partner Stedman Graham for over two decades. It’s tough to say whether the common law couple will ever get hitched. Besides, when something isn’t broke, why fix it?
Oprah has accomplished a lot in her day, and isn’t about to slow down any time soon. In fact, Forbes magazine estimated that as of 2015, Oprah’s net worth is over 3.2 billion dollars- which isn’t surprising. Oprah’s authored 5 books, and is a producer, actress and philanthropist. Perhaps her extraordinarily successful career is a good enough marriage for her.
13 Hugh Grant
Hugh Grant still charms our socks off as an actor at the age of 55, but apparently this isn’t the case in his dating life. Although The Notting Hill star was dating model, Elizabeth Hurley for 13 years, he wound up being the godfather of her child rather than her dearly beloved.
But despite the lack of vows in Hugh’s life, he does have four children with two separate mothers, actresses Tinglan Hong, and Anna Eberstein. Hugh Grant and Anna Eberstein are still together today. Although the happy couple have two children together, there are no rumors or reports of wedding bells around the corner.
12 Sheryl Crow
At the age of 53, American singer Sheryl Crow still hasn’t been married, despite being involved with a number of celebrity actors, musicians and athletes, such as Lance Armstrong, Owen Wilson, Sting, Don Henley, Michael Jackson and Eric Clapton.
Between a rough breakup with Lance Armstrong and a breast cancer scare, Sheryl Crow decided not to wait for the perfect marriage before having children- which makes it seem like she’s perfectly happy with the way things are right now. In 2007, Sheryl adopted her first son Wyatt Steven Crow, and in 2010 she adopted Levi James Crow, and parents them both as a single, successful mom.
11 Winona Ryder
At age 44, actress Winona Ryder still hasn’t tied the knot. However, she has been in a long-term relationship with her boyfriend and fashion producer, Scott Mackinlay Hahn. But will there be wedding bells in her future? It’s tough to say.
Like Oprah, Winona had a lot on the go in her acting career, especially in the 1990’s. She’s had lead roles in over 40 films, such as the hit films Beetlejuice, Girl Interrupted and Edward Scissorhands. Winona’s success made her one of Hollywood’s most profitable actresses in her time. Perhaps she just hasn’t had enough time to tie the knot yet.
10 Diane Keaton
Actress Diane Keaton has been involved in many Hollywood romance stories, with men such as Woody Allen and Al Pacino. But at age 70, she still hasn’t tied the knot- and it’s not certain she ever will. Diane Keaton has had an extremely successful acting career, and has starred in over 45 hit movies.
But when asked about her stance on not being married, Diane reportedly responded: “I don't think that because I'm not married it's made my life any less. That old maid myth is garbage.” She seems to have proven her point by adopting two children with whom she lives a fulfilled and successful life, sans husband.
9 John Cusack
At the age of 50, John Cusack hasn’t been married, despite dating several famous actresses such as Neve Campbell and Lili Taylor. As a producer and screenwriter, his career is still riding the waves of success while he figures out his dating life. It doesn’t seem like he’s in any rush to settle down, though.
Who knows, maybe John Cusack will be the next George Clooney, and we’ll get to see him exchange vows when he turns 57- that gives him a few solid years from now to get prepared. John Cusack has no known children at present time.
8 Kylie Minogue
Kylie Minogue is an Australian singer and songwriter who is known for her hit “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” that was released in 2001. At the age of 48, Kylie Minogue has no children and has never been married. She did date the actor Olivier Martinez from 2002 until 2007, but after the couple split, there were no reports of any other Hollywood romances in Minogue’s life, until just a few years ago. There have been rumors that Kylie Minogue has wed her current boyfriend, 28-year-old Joshua Sasse- but no such rumors have been confirmed. But a post uploaded on Kylie’s Instagram account of a poem Josh wrote for her, titled “To my Wife”, suggested that wedding bells may be in her future.
7 Tim Robbins
Tim Robbins will turn 58 this October, and although he’s had a 20 year relationship and two children with actress Susan Sarandon, he hasn’t tied the knot. Although his 20 year relationship with Susan Sarandon ended in 2009, there’s still hope for Tim Robbins while he’s in bachelor mode. After all, George Clooney is now the shining role model for other men to get hitched in their late 50’s.
Tim Robbins also has a busy career as a screenwriter, director, producer and musician. He’s best known for his role in The Shawshank Redemption.
6 Matt Dillon
A true bachelor, Matt Dillon still hasn’t been married at the age of 52. He did have a 3 year relationship with actress Cameron Diaz in the late 1990’s, but he’s had no involvement with other romances to date.
Will Matt Dillon ever find the one? At the very least, Matt’s had an extraordinarily successful marriage to his Hollywood career. He’s starred in over 30 hit films and has been nominated for more than 30 awards, 16 of which he’s won. Matt Dillon is perhaps best known for his role in Something About Mary.
5 Owen Wilson
Comedian and actor Owen Wilson has been involved with several celebrity actors, such as Sheryl Crow. And despite still being unwed, he was engaged to Kate Hudson in 2008. While the engagement was eventually broken off, Owen Wilson went on to have a son with his ex-girlfriend, Jade Duell in 2011. He has also recently had another son named Finn, who he welcomed in 2014 with his former lover and personal trainer, Caroline Lindqvist.
It’s unclear what Owen’s future holds, but at the age of 47, he still has plenty of time- and two ring bearers when he needs them.
4 Marisa Tomei
The award-winning actress, Marisa Tomei has had her fair share of relationships with numerous famous men, from Robert Downey Jr to Lenny Kravitz. She was close to marriage until she broke off her engagement with actor, Logan Marshall-Green in 2012.
At the age of 51, Tomei still looks 25. Her Hollywood career has been rocky, with several hit films in the beginning of her acting career, which were later followed by films that received low ratings. However, her career seems to be picking up again. There have also been rumors that the 51 year old actress is expecting a baby and may be secretly married, although nothing has yet been confirmed or denied.
3 Joan Jett
Punk rocker Joan Jett, age 57, still has yet to be married. Her band, Joan Jett and The Blackhearts, have had several hits dating back to the 1970’s, such as the classic, “I Love Rock and Roll”. During her music career, rumors have surfaced that she’s a lesbian, and was even in a long-term relationship with Carmen Electra. However, there’s absolutely no proof that this rumor was true. There are no other known serious relationships between Joan Jett and any other celebrities.
When asked about her sexuality and dating other women in an interview, Joan’s response was “I’m not saying no, and I’m not saying yes”. It’s hard to say if marriage is on the horizon for Joan, but as long as she’s happy- that’s all that matters.
2 Matthew Perry
Matthew Perry is best known for his role on the hit 90’s sitcom, Friends. And while his character, the awkward Chandler Bing got married, Matthew Perry has yet to say his vows in real life.
That being said, he has had several relationships with A-List celebrities such as award-winning actress, Julia Roberts and Lauren Graham.
During his acting career, he’s battled various forms of addiction, which may be part of the reason he hasn’t settled down yet. Despite any personal issues, he’s still kept up with a successful Hollywood career as a producer, actor, director and writer.
At the age of 46, there’s still plenty of time for Matt Perry to find the love of his life and settle down- just like he did with Monica Geller in Friends.
1 Drew Carey
Stand up comedian and actor Drew Carey is best known for his role on The Drew Carey Show and Whose Line Is It Anyway?. At age 58, he’s worked on achieving a successful acting career since 1991. But his dating life has been much drier than his acting career. In 2007, he proposed to his girlfriend Nicole Jaracz. He was also the step-father of Nicole’s son from a previous relationship. Unfortunately, Carey and Jaracz never made it to the altar, and called off their engagement in January 2012. Drew Carey hasn’t confirmed dating any other women in Hollywood since.
