Being in Hollywood may seem like it’s all glitz and glamour, but in truth, it’s anything but. Unfortunately, being in the entertainment business means you’re subject to vanity and an alarming obsession with the physical appearance. Celebrities are always pressured to possess flawless skin, milk-white teeth, gorgeous locks, a toned physique, and that youthful glow.
But what happens when celebrities don’t live up to Hollywood’s standards of beauty? They get flogged by the tabloids and the public for being the less than perfect deities that we perceive them to be. So celebrities, desperate to uphold that picture-perfect image, resort to any and every method to ensure that they continue looking flawless and young, never mind if they try too hard to look younger than their actual age. And the easiest solution to their problems? Plastic surgery.
Many celebrities have undergone plastic surgery, but not all procedures have made them look good. In fact, there are many botched cosmetic surgery jobs that celebrities have quickly and desperately tried to fix. But on occasion, plastic surgery was able to enhance a celebrity’s physical appearance.
It was her role as Rachel Green in the hit comedy show Friends that put Jennifer Aniston on the Hollywood map of A-listers. For the role, she has won an Emmy, a Golden Globe, and a Screen Actors Guild Award, paving the way for her film career and eventually becoming one of Hollywood’s top leading ladies. She has long since proven that she’s more than just a fashion icon, with her trend-setting outfits and that famous layered haircut back in the 1990s; she has proven her mettle as a serious actress, especially with her role in the 2014 film Cake, in which she played Claire, a woman who joins a chronic pain support group. It’s quite obvious that she has made some subtle surgical changes to her body, as her breast size has noticeably increased and her lips have taken on a different shape. But Aniston has only admitted to getting a nose job, a rhinoplasty, to be specific.
Being a member of the Kardashian clan usually means every detail of your entire life is public knowledge because it’s apparently how these people gained worldwide fame. Their reality show, Keeping Up With the Kardashians has been running for 13 seasons and has given the stars of the show the reputation for being “famous for nothing.” But famous they are, with the show branching out to several spinoffs. The eldest of the Kardashian kids is Kourtney, though she’s probably not as famous as her younger sisters Kim and Kendall Jenner. She has used her fame to build a business, launching retail and fashion lines that include clothes and fragrances. Given that her life is an open book (she even gave birth on live television!), Kourtney has talked openly about having had breast implants when she was in college.
The former No Doubt frontman (frontwoman?) is looking better than ever these days, even after having three kids. After gaining worldwide fame as a part of No Doubt, Gwen Stefani branched out on her own and became equally successful as a solo artist. Her personal life has been anything but a bed of roses, after a nasty divorce from Gavin Rossdale. But she found love again with her The Voice co-judge Blake Shelton and she’s looking more beautiful than ever. In fact, Stefani is actually looking younger than she did 10 years ago, which have led many to believe that she’s had some work done on her face and maybe even her body. According to a March 2015 article in In Touch, a plastic surgeon speculated that Stefani most likely got a nose job and Botox, among other procedures. While Stefani denied plastic surgery rumors back in 2007, she may have changed her mind somewhere down the road.
Even as a child, Scarlett Johansson was already beautiful. And not only did she grow up with that unforgettable face with her luscious lips and defined cheekbones; she has a rocking body to match, which constantly puts her on the sexiest women in the world lists. Aside from her sexy lips, full breasts and shapely behind, she’s also made a name for herself as one of the most sought-after actresses, having landed big movie roles like the Black Widow in Marvel’s Avengers franchise. In fact, she was named the highest-paid female actress in Hollywood in 2015, no thanks to her appearance in the Marvel universe’s film franchise. Being constantly under the spotlight, perhaps Johansson felt the need to be as flawless as possible and so she turned to plastic surgery for help. She’s said to have had a nose job, which only enhanced her already beautiful face.
Labeled one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood, Blake Lively is no doubt the envy of many women, not just for her beauty but for snagging Ryan Reynolds and giving birth to his two adorable daughters. But the problem with being put up on a pedestal like that is having to live up to near-impossible standards. And that’s why many have speculated that she has had some work done. In her earlier projects, such as her role in the film Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, her nose looks noticeably bigger and her chest flatter. But when you see her in her later projects, she seems even more gorgeous. Lively has been rumored to have had breast implants, a nose job, and some lip and chin enhancements, though she has vehemently denied all these allegations. Whatever the case, she looks amazing.
She may be Jessica Simpson’s little sister, but Ashlee Simpson has managed to make a name for herself on her own in the entertainment industry, away from her big sister’s shadow. She gained widespread recognition in her own reality show, The Ashlee Simpson Show and also carved a niche for herself as a singer with the hit song, “Pieces of Me.” While pretty like her sister, one physical flaw that she always had was her very prominent nose. For a time, she said she would never “fix” her nose, saying it was what made her unique and gave her character. But less than two years later, she got a nose job anyway, but refused to admit to it. It was her father who confirmed it a year later, saying she needed it done because she supposedly had a problem with her breathing.
In terms of physical appearance, Kelly Osbourne is the very definition of someone in Hollywood who went from trashy to classy. Osbourne has always been in the spotlight, known primarily as the daughter of music legend Ozzy Osbourne and his wife, Sharon Osbourne. When she was in the family reality TV show The Osbournes, Kelly looked every bit the rebellious teenager, sporting hot pink hair and crazy outfits. But when she came into her own as a singer-songwriter, TV host, and fashion designer, she revamped her look almost completely. Today, she wears classier outfits, yet still maintains that edgy flair, which has earned her a spot on the best dressed lists from time to time. One of the reasons she looks great is supposedly because of some cosmetic surgery, though she denies it. Whether her instant 70-pound weight loss was done without some form of surgery or not, we’ll never really know. But whatever the case, she looks great!
Kelly Rowland rose to fame in the 1990s as the second lead singer of Destiny’s Child, which is considered one of the best-selling girl pop music groups of all time. The members eventually went their separate ways and like the group’s lead singer Beyonce Knowles, Rowland embarked on a solo career. She released her debut solo album called Simply Deep, which was quite the success. As early as 18 years old, she wanted to have a breast augmentation, but Knowles’ mother discouraged her from undergoing the procedure, saying to wait until she was older. She finally pushed through with getting the implants at 28 years old, but that’s not all she had done. She also had some work done on her nose, to make it thinner and straighter. She was open about the procedures she underwent, saying she did it for herself, and not for a man or her fans.
We almost forgot that Canadian hunk Ryan Gosling was once a part of the Mickey Mouse Club, which was where he got his start in the entertainment industry. He landed his first starring role in the 2001 film The Believer, but it wasn’t until he appeared in the commercially successful 2004 movie The Notebook, that he gained worldwide recognition. His career went uphill from there, landing him his first Academy Award nomination for the 2006 film Half Nelson. He received a Golden Globe Award for his role in the 2016 film La La Land and he’s one of today’s most sought-after actors in Hollywood. It doesn’t hurt that he’s easy on the eyes as well, possessing that boy-next-door look and winning smile. Rumor has it that Gosling went under the knife for a nose job, and if you see some before and after photos, you’ll notice that his more recent pictures show him with a more finely-shaped nose.
During the early days of her career, Britney Spears was a cute teenager with an enviable athletic body. As she grew older, she put on weight until she looked to have gained a little too much during that phase when she had that very public meltdown. Spears says she has had to work double time to get back in shape and so far, she’s been looking good. But it wasn’t just rigorous workouts and strict diets for the pop star. She apparently went under the knife too, in an effort to look even better than she already did. Spears admitted to having full lip injections for a more pouty, sultry look. It’s also quite obvious that she had some work done on her nose, as it’s more slender than her otherwise slightly rounded nose of the past. The procedures have admittedly altered her looks, but she still looks good.
When she first burst into the Hollywood scene in the film Transformers, Megan Fox became every man’s fantasy as she strutted around in skimpy and figure-hugging outfits. Her amazing figure and youthful looks belie the fact that she has had three children, as she could easily pass for a young , single hottie in her early twenties. Many have wondered if her beauty is all-natural, since there’s quite a bit of difference in her looks from before her Transformers days to the way she looks today. Fox has shot down these rumors, as mentioned in a July 2011 report in ABC7 and even posted an album on her Facebook page, depicting various facial expressions. The album was entitled “Things You Can’t Do With Your Face When You Have Botox.” But her before and now pictures say otherwise, as her “now” pictures show tighter skin, a thinner nose, and fuller lips.
It’s sometimes easy to forget that Keira Knightley had a bit role in the film Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. She first gained recognition for her acting prowess in the 2002 film Bend It Like Beckham, which led to her becoming Hollywood box office material when she joined the cast of Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise in the role of Elizabeth Swann. This project led to her role in the film Pride and Prejudice, in which she played protagonist Elizabeth Bennet. The role garnered her an Academy Award nomination and cemented her status as one of Hollywood’s hottest actresses. But she doesn’t only have the acting chops; she’s quite beautiful as well. Rumor has it that she went under the knife to enhance her features even further, particularly her nose. She has never admitted to getting rhinoplasty, but comparing her old and recent pictures gives us the answer to the plastic surgery question.
Hilary Duff has been in the spotlight since she was a child, beginning her acting career at a young age and becoming labeled a teen idol when she starred in her own Disney Channel comedy series, Lizzie McGuire. She began working on a slew of other Disney Channel projects, like the film Cadet Kelly, then went on to develop her singing career. She has since become a household name, as both an actress and a singer. Since she practically grew up right in the public’s eye, it was easy to spot the subtle differences from her physical features as a child to the way she looks today. Rumor has it that she had a breast and nose job and she also seems to have had lip fillers and dental work. She has never outright admitted to it, but she said that she isn’t opposed to plastic surgery.
