Some celebrities are more private than others and would like to keep their personal life out of the headlines... and then there are people like Miley Cyrus who are photographed supposedly getting frisky with a Victoria's Secret model. To each their own. But since she is so open in certain ways, you'd think you already know everything about her that there is to know. Bet you don't! 12 She Has Hidden Tattoos
Miley has a lot of visible tattoos, but she also has some hidden ones. For one thing, there's the crying emoji cat that she had tattooed on the inside of her lower lip, although that won't last forever because ink breaks down faster in the mouth. Then there's the Rolling Stone tattoo that she got across the bottom of her feet, which was actually from her cover story for the magazine.
11 She Has Jennifer Aniston's Hair Stylist
When Jennifer Aniston started a frenzy with The Rachel cut in her Friends years, hairstylist Chris McMillan was responsible for the breakout style. Chris is also Miley's hairstylist, and is responsible for the 2012 cut that took Miley to pixie status and effectively did away with any looks association she still had to her Disney Channel days. (Those Disney stars really have to work to change their images.) Chris really seems to be the go-to for dramatic changes in the hair department.
10 Miley Is Not Her Real Name
Miley Cyrus was actually born Destiny Hope Cyrus. Her nickname from birth was "Smiley" which later evolved into Miley. Everyone knew her as Miley so in 2008, she had her name legally changed. She also dropped the Hope and went with Ray as a middle name, which is the same middle name as her father, and also her grandfather Ronald Ray Cyrus who she was very close to. Her grandfather was also in the public eye, but as a politician part of the Democratic Party.
9 She Has Five Siblings
She's got two half-brothers: Trace, from the band Metro Station (who also had a hit song in 2008, the first year she made the charts) and Christopher, also her age. Her sister Brandi is the oldest and running a fashion line in L.A. Noah is the youngest at 16 and works as an actress.
8 She Was Born A Lefty
If you're a lefty, well, here's your moment to shine, because you've got something in common with the superstar. Miley was born left-handed but her dad actually encouraged her to learn how to be right-handed. Because of this change, she's always had really bad handwriting. She still jokes that if her fans can't read her autograph they should blame her dad. Billy Ray's beliefs are actually pretty common -- there's a feeling that if you write with your left hand, you "learn the world backwards." It's a common religious theme from the '50s when the left hand was considered to be the "Devil's Paw."
7 Dolly Parton Is Her Godmother
Billy Ray was a big country star back in the day and is close to Dolly Parton both on a professional and personal level. They even toured together in 1992. Of Miley Dolly has said, “I’ve loved her through the years and watched her grow up, and I’ve seen how smart she is and how talented she is. It’s not easy being young. It’s hard to know what to do. You’ve almost got to sacrifice your damn soul just to get anything done.” In fact, Miley has a very nice cover of "Jolene" out there.
6 Her First Role Was On A Christian Medical Drama
Miley's very first acting job was on her dad's Christian medical drama called Doc. Her next acting role was a small part in 2003's Big Fish. In 2006, she landed her first claim to fame Hannah Montana. Billy Ray tried to discourage it, but by 2008 her franchise was worth one billion dollars. Yup, one billion. You heard us. Billy Ray has said, “I tried to discourage Miley from pursuing the entertainment business because it’s a double-edged sword. For everything that makes you happy, there’s something equally heartbreaking.”
5 She Identifies As Pansexual
Miley spoke to British Elle about how she defines her sexuality (if she does at all). She explained that she's open and pansexual because things are always changing for her. According to Jennifer Bass, communications director at the Kinsey Institute, “Calling oneself pansexual is opening up to every human possibility. It’s an attempt to be inclusive and to step outside of conventional categories people are put into.”
4 She Loved Her 2013 VMA Performance
Miley's teddy bear moment at the 2013 VMA's wasn't random or meaningless, it was actually pretty symbolic of her life. She says it wasn't "just a teddy bear." She says she was experiencing joy and the bear was a symbol of her "breaking out" since the next two years were all about discovering who she really is.
3 She's Lost Opportunities
As famous as she is, Miley still loses opportunities sometimes. She supposedly had the cover of Vogue until her twerking extravaganza at the VMA's, and Anna Wintour pulled the plug. She also booked the face of a Marc Jacobs campaign but his go-to photographer Juergen Teller refused to be involved. This makes Miley pretty relatable since we've all made mistakes and have been judged (although not in the public eye, of course).
2 Her Wrecking Ball Tears Were Real
The "Wrecking Ball" video features Miley crying a whole lot, but she wasn't actually crying about Liam Hemsworth at the time, despite that song being about their break up. She was actually crying about her dog Lila who had passed away, a death which she calls "the worst thing that ever happened to me." Miley also admitted that crying in front of the film crew was a lot more challenging than it was for her to be naked on the wrecking ball, although that doesn't seem too surprising.
1 She Sticks Out Her Tongue For A Reason
Miley's tongue is more famous than perhaps any of her other body parts, but according to her this is not an intentional attention-seeking move. Quite the opposite actually: she blames it on her awkward nature. She's said, "I'm so embarrassed because people are taking pictures of me and I don't know how to smile, and just be awkward, so I stick my tongue out, because I don't know what else to do." Spoken like a super relatable, normal person (who's also a pretty wealthy star).
