For those who are practically obsessed with reality TV, there is always a reason to turn on the tube and catch some sort of hot drama playing out on the small screen. From The Housewives to Keeping Up with the Kardashians, there is never a dull moment when reality television is ready to watch.
Most of these reality shows involve couples who care to air their laundry for all the world to watch. They don’t mind putting it all out there, causing a scene and letting us in on all their moments – the good, the bad and the (often) OTT. The paycheck must be worth the pain.
It seems strange that we watch these overly-open men and women live their lives on TV, but sometimes reality is better than fiction. You couldn’t even try to make up some of the scenarios and situations these folks get themselves into. It’s no wonder Bravo’s Andy Cohen is having the time of his life. He makes the dollars because of their drama!
Here are some of our favourite, and not-so-favourite couples from reality TV. Some are matches made in heaven while others seem to be destined for disaster. Take a look, see who we’ve listed and weigh in with your thoughts about the reality television twosomes.
12 Mismatched Couples That Leave Us Going "Huh?"
24 Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott (Tori & Dean)
We’ve known Tori Spelling since her days as the sweet and innocent Donna on Beverly Hills, 90210. And by the way, rumour has it that the show is making a comeback! But Beverly Hills aside, ever since then, Spelling has been on screen for a whole new reason…reality TV. She shares her screen time with her spouse, Dean McDermott. They have had their highs and lows, but they seem to pull through and keep having more babies. But will a litter of kids - as cute as they are - mend their marriage?
It seems like these two were never quite the right fit. Perhaps starting a relationship in unconventional ways at the time was the first sign they were on the path towards turmoil.
23 Kate and Jon Gosselin (Jon and Kate Plus 8)
Having eight kids at once (plus two others already growing up) is no easy feat. The craziness is enough to make someone lose their marbles. Now throw a reality show into the mix and you know a relationship is headed for the hills.
Leave it to the Gosselins to share their family drama on TV, expose their kids to the world and see their marriage unravel episode by episode. But was it TV that tore this family apart or the fact that Kate and Jon were a mismatch from the start? Kate has moved on and Jon has had some public pitfalls, but we’ll always have reruns to watch.
22 Phaedra Parks and Apollo Nida (Real Housewives of Atlanta)
What would The Real Housewives of Atlanta be without the outspoken and often outrageous Phaedra Parks? Well, the Bravo franchise would be just fine, as they are still running episodes ever since Parks has left the show…or was booted off. But what about that handsome ex-hubby of hers, Apollo Nida? Remember, he was sent to the slammer and their rocky relationship fizzled fast. Was anyone really surprised, though?
This couple never made much sense. It was only a matter of time before the Atlanta duo would break up and never look back. And another one bites the peach…
21 Scott Disick and Kourtney Kardashian (Keeping Up with the Kardashians)
On again, off again, and round and round they go! Scott Disick and Kourtney Kardashian have been together for a long time, most of it spent trying to make their relationship work. While they are no longer romantically involved (or so they say), the two are co-parenting their three adorable kids while trying out new relationships.
There must be chemistry between the two, but this relationship went on for too long while Disick couldn’t get his act together and Kardashian was constantly worried, weeping and worn out. Will they ever wind up together again? We’ll have to wait and see…and we can, thanks to endless episodes of Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
20 Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna (Keeping Up with the Kardashians)
Just when you thought there couldn’t possibly be another crazy Kardashian romance to question, in comes the flamboyant and free-spirited Blac Chyna and her unusual desire for Rob Kardashian. The two lovebirds shacked up, had a baby girl then the whole thing went south. And with all the bickering and fighting between these two, it was hardly a surprise that their relationship ended badly…and publicly.
So now these two are stuck together basically forever since they share a child. They were a mismatch from the start but they did make for must-see TV. Perhaps they’ll reunite just to make a buck on another reality show someday.
19 Erika and Thomas Girardi (Real Housewives of Beverly Hills)
Let’s move on to the beauties of Beverly Hills. Erika Girardi has a big personality, making her one to watch on the reality show. She’s in her 40s, but her super rich lawyer husband is decades older. While they’ve been together for a long time, it is still hard to believe they are the perfect match. Age aside, think about Erika’s music career. She puts on quite the risqué act, while Thomas seems mild mannered and buttoned up.
They do say opposites attract, but this is taking that sentiment to the extreme. Let’s check in on these two in a few years and see if the relationship is still rock solid. We hope they last but in reality TV world, relationships tend to unravel.
18 Shannon and David Beador (Real Housewives of Orange County)
If you are a fan of The Real Housewives of Orange County, then you know all about Shannon Beador and her failed marriage to her now-ex, David. As expected, that didn’t work out too well. So now they are no longer together and Shannon is dipping her toe in the dating pool. Meanwhile, David’s having no problem being back on the market.
Considering he was on the market while married, this is a surprise to no one. With Shannon’s wild ways and David’s mild demeanour, this couple came off as a mismatch even before the infidelity. Perhaps the split was in the cards all along.
17 Kris Jenner and Corey Gamble (Keeping Up with the Kardashians)
If you thought Kris Jenner’s marriage to Bruce (now Caitlyn) was a mismatch, then her relationship with Corey Gamble is another sign that perhaps Kris needs a matchmaker. The two seem awkward around one another on the show and it doesn’t even seem like they are a real couple. Age difference aside, what do these two have in common? Do they have similar interests? Mutual friends? Plans for marriage? Who knows because they don’t really discuss any of this on TV!
Hey, if they are happy with their relationship, then good for them. But we’re not buying it. Check back to see if Gamble makes it to the next season of KUWTK.
16 Jorge Nava and Anfisa Arkhipchenko (90 Day Fiancé)
90 Day Fiancé is a fun show to tune in to. We see the struggles and many steps it takes for a couple to marry when one is from another country. They have just 90 days to marry, make it work and move forward with their lives. The pressure is on and the problems never seem to stop. Then you have couples like Jorge Nava and Anfisa Arkhipchenko. Talk about tumultuous.
These two are like oil and water. The fighting is nonstop and the romance is nowhere to be found. Was Arkhipchenko just looking for a way to make it to America by using Nava to get her in by marriage? She’d never admit it, but it surely doesn’t seem like she’s interested in him at all. For these two, 90 Day Fiancé may turn into 90 Day Marriage. That’s if they can even last that long.
15 Kendra Wilkinson and Hank Baskett (Kendra on Top)
Kendra Wilkinson came into the spotlight when she was one of Hugh Hefner’s multiple blonde girlfriends. But she left “Hef” when she met ball player Hank Baskett. The attractive couple got married and had two super-cute kids. But when they started to share their lives on reality television, things started to go from wonderful to a wreck. There was lots of drama, not to mention Wilkinson's fly-off-the-handle personality that could make anyone want to hide under a rock and recoil.
These two may look good in pictures, but what about the big picture? Are they really a good match or a bad mistake?
14 Lisa Vanderpump and Ken Todd (Real Housewives of Beverly Hills)
Viewers who adore Lisa Vanderpump from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills can’t get enough of her elegance and extravagance. She’s no wallflower and when she’s with the other women, she stands out and makes her voice heard. She’s rich, powerful, beautiful and smart. While her husband Ken Todd is a great success in his own right and loves dogs as much as his wife does, it seems like that’s all they have in common.
She’s a woman about town and he seems to only go out when she requests his company. This arrangement obviously works for the couple – they’ve been together for a long time – but that doesn’t mean the match isn’t thought-provoking. Perhaps that’s why we love tuning in and watching them interact.
13 Danielle and Mohamed Jbali (90 Day Fiancé)
Mismatch alert! There is no way this couple was ever the real deal. Perhaps Danielle Jbali fell in love with the much-younger Mohamed, but he was obviously never anywhere near head over heels for his “wife.” Oh, they married, but that doesn’t mean it meant anything. While we’ll never know for sure what the real story was, from what was aired on 90 Day Fiancé, it was clear that this relationship was a drama from minute one.
Danielle was taken for a ride and Mohamed was at the wheel. And the show’s producers couldn’t get enough…they hit the jackpot with this joke of a relationship.
12 Reality TV Couples We Can’t Get Enough Of
12 Ice-T and Coco (Ice & Coco)
Ice-T and Coco are a longtime couple who make us want to get right home and give our significant other a big squeeze. They are obviously madly in love and know how to have a good laugh. They seem like the best of friends, the luckiest of lovers and forever companions. They have an adorable daughter and a couple of dogs, making their happy family complete.
Sure, Coco may be over-the-top in the looks department, but Ice-T knows that deep inside, she’s a sweet and tender woman who only wants the best for her boo. These two are the perfect match and we know they’ll be together forever.
11 Kyle Richards and Mauricio Umansky (Real Housewives of Beverly Hills)
Fans of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills are envious of the awesome relationship between Kyle Richards and her hunky husband Maurico Umansky.
In a town filled with all that is sparkly and superficial, this cute couple seems grounded and so good for each other.
Sure, they live an extravagant life filled with the finer things, but when it comes down to it, their love is what they cherish most. Blessed with beautiful daughters and a dreamy mansion, these two are too good to be true. But they are! We expect this Beverly Hills duo to live the dream for all eternity.
10 Joe and Melissa Gorga (Real Housewives of New Jersey)
There’s a ton of drama in New Jersey as we see played out on The Real Housewives of New Jersey, but when it comes to a tight twosome, Melissa and Joe Gorga always keep it real and romantic. They have three amazing kids, a super nice home and lots of love to share. While Melissa and Joe’s sister may not always be on the same page, at the end of the day Melissa comes home to her honey and they hold the family together.
They may playfully bicker, but the love is stronger than any petty argument. The Gorgas are a great couple, even when tempers flare and tables are flipped.
9 Kim Zolciak and Kroy Biermann (Don’t Be Tardy)
We never want to be tardy when we tune in to Don’t Be Tardy on Bravo. Who doesn’t love the romance between Kim Zolciak and Kroy Biermann? They may not be the traditional family, but the love is as strong as can be. With so many kids to care for and lots going on at all times, these two make chaos work in their favour.
They are attracted to one another more than ever, their bond can’t be broken and they make one another happy all the time. While lots of couples lose their connection once they film a reality show, this couple stays strong no matter what the camera crew is up to.
8 Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt (The Hills)
The Hills are alive with the sound of sweet romance between reality darlings Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt. They may have had their hard times in the past, but the longtime couple has made it through, stronger and more suited for one another than ever before. The blonde duo has made plenty of headlines, but even with their well-publicized past, they are committed to one another and kinda cute together.
Some thought it would never last, but they’ve proven they are in it to win it. Maybe one day they will tell their grandchildren about their reality TV beginnings. Sure beats meeting at a bar!
7 Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright (Vanderpump Rules)
While reality star Jax Taylor has done plenty to upset his now-fiancé, somehow they’ve worked it out and plan to wed. He lied. He betrayed her. He took her for granted. But she knew there was something special about her handsome honey and waited it out until he realized what a jerk he was being.
Now that Taylor is trying to be a better man, he is ready to get hitched to his southern sweetie and they’re even talking about having kids in the near future. Let’s hope Taylor teaches his kids to be faithful rather than foolish like he once was.
6 Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi and Jionni LaValle (Jersey Shore)
We all got to know “Snooki” when she made her reality TV debut on television’s hot drama of a program, Jersey Shore. She made quite an impression on fans who tuned in to see what kind of trouble she’d get into with her high-energy housemates. But over time, the petite powerhouse matured, married and became a mom.
Her main man, Jionni LaValle is her knight in shining armour, and she’s his pint-sized princess. Her crazy days are over and she’s fully committed to her hubby. We miss those wild days at the Shore, but there’s more to life than dancing on tables and hooking up with randoms.
5 Trista and Ryan Sutter (The Bachelorette)
When The Bachelorette first began, we met Trista and Ryan, now married with kids. They fell in love on television, and the passion still continues years later. Thanks to the success of their season, many more Bachelor seasons have followed suit, getting more interesting, eventful, wacky and wild.
As the “seasoned pros” of the bunch, these two lovebirds could teach a thing or two to the next batch of love-hungry contestants looking for their one and only. Since the Sutters have lasted this long, we expect them to grow old and grey together. And they’ll always "accept this rose.”
4 Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker (Real Housewives of Atlanta)
Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker met on TV, so it’s no surprise that they haven’t been “cursed” by the reality TV demons that cause many couples to wind up in divorce court. They are a super cute couple, have tons of fun together and are proud parents of little Ace. Their blended family is happy and healthy, their careers are booming and they make for some great storylines on The Real Housewives of Atlanta.
Burruss’s talents are impressive, and Tucker is smitten with her singing voice. She can serenade her sweetie 'till the end of time and he will listen to every note, morning 'till night.
3 Tom Sandoval and Ariana Madix (Vanderpump Rules)
Vanderpump Rules wouldn’t be the same without Tom Sandoval and his sweetie Ariana Madix. With all the drama between the cast, these two keep it real and their romance is on the rise. They’ve had their arguments, but they know how to kiss and make up, making for interesting reality TV. Their tight-knit group is always up in everyone’s business, but when these two are alone, they can focus on one another and where their relationship is headed.
Now that Sandoval is running his own bar, things may get more complicated, but if he remembers to save time for Madix, she’ll be by his side. If not, there’s always Tom Schwartz to soothe Sandoval in his time of despair!
2 Mercedes (MJ) Javid and Tommy Feight (Shahs of Sunset)
Shahs of Sunset is another popular Bravo show that is full of drama, chaos and fun times. Mercedes (MJ) David is the life of the party, and her new hubby Tommy Feight is probably the only man alive who can deal with her loud and lively personality. They are the perfect match, as imperfect as they each may be.
The Shahs crew has had some wild moments, but MJ keeps it real even though she’s completely over-the-top. Somehow, Feight reels her in and rocks her world. These two seem like an odd pair, but they fit together like puzzle pieces.
1 Jessie James Decker and Eric Decker (Eric & Jessie: Game On)
Good looking and great at what they do, reality stars Jessie James and Eric Decker are the cutest couple on E!. They star in their own reality show, displaying their highs and lows and everything in-between. Both are super talented, stunningly attractive and completely in love with each other. They are as adorable as can be when they show their love, and fans are addicted to Eric & Jessie: Game On.
With the attraction and affection these two have for one another, there is no doubt their game will be on forever. We can’t get enough of this reality pair. What a match!
