Hollywood relationships are tricky. You’ve got those blink-and-you'll-miss couples, on-off relationships, and those that end in divorce after years of commitment. But Hollywood isn’t all about scandals and divorces. Alright, sometimes it is! But there are famous couples out there who have found their one and only in 2018, and it looks like they’ll still be together in 2019.
Some of these lovebirds are proving that love really does conquer all. And who knows, wedding bells might ring for them if they manage to withstand the test of time and their hectic Hollywood work schedules. Some of them have even thrown caution to the wind and gotten engaged after a few short weeks of dating (yes, we're talking about you, Justin Bieber!).
But love in Hollywood can also be brutal. And it seems like there are more celebrity couples splitting up than there are love connections. It’s enough to make anyone want to think twice about romance. After all, if big name celebrities can’t make it work, what hope do the rest of us mortals have?
Take a look at these 10 gorgeous celebs who started dating in 2018 and are still going strong and 10 who’ve already split up. Regardless of the outcome, these couples have truly taken us by surprise this year.
The Biebs didn’t get his happily ever after with Selena Gomez, but his other on-off relationship seems to have worked out just fine. You see, the Biebs had previously dated model Hailey Baldwin, but they called it quits in 2016.
Then, over the summer of 2018, they rekindled their romance- but Bieber didn’t move slowly.
On July 7, while he and Baldwin were in the Bahamas, he proposed to her. But an insider told ET that before he did, the pop singer visited his love's dad- actor Stephen Baldwin- and asked for his daughter’s hand in marriage. And he approved! But while we’re sure this news breaks the heart of many “Beliebers,” it looks like the pop singer and Baldwin are in it for the long haul.
Earlier this year, Hollywood power couple Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum made a joint statement about their split exclusively to People. Channing Tatum also shared the statement on his Instagram page. But the message was clear: the “Magic Mike” star and his actress/dancer wife were done. But unlike some marriages, this one wouldn’t end with them throwing stuff at each other.
In their statement, they wrote: “Absolutely nothing has changed about how much we love one another.” Nothing in their words suggested that either of them had done something wrong. They simply transitioned from husband and wife to best friends, and will likely remain this way as they co-parent their daughter Everly.
2018 was the summer of love, or at least, it was for the Hunger Games actress who started dating Cooke Maroney, the director of New York’s Gladstone Gallery. Back in June 2018, the couple was spotted in New York City enjoying a romantic dinner.
An insider told People, “She is smiling like I have never seen her do with any of her previous boyfriends.”
Way to go, Lawrence! According to E News, the couple was spotted again in the Big Apple holding hands a month later. And recently, they were seen together in Paris, enjoying one of the world's most romantic cities.
Millie Bobby Brown, aka, Eleven from Stranger Things, was dating singer Jacob Sartorius. But much like the character on her show, their relationship ended up in the upside down. After what seemed like months of flirting on social media, both of them posted an Insta-story confirming that the decision to end things was mutual. And while their brief teenage romance wasn’t meant to be, neither of them have thrown shade at each other. So, whatever truly ended their relationship, at least they handled it with dignity and respect.
It’s too bad they’re no longer following each other on Instagram either. But you just never know if Brown and Sartorius will end up becoming the new Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber and get back together again, right?
Singer Ariana Grande and actor Pete Davidson were only officially dating for a couple of weeks. According to Seventeen magazine, Bossip reported that Grande and Davidson became a couple on May 18, 2018. But they didn’t make it official until Pete posted a photo of himself and Grande dressed up in Gryffindor and Slytherin robes on Instagram on May 30.
By June 11, rumors spread that the two were engaged- then Davidson stopped by The Tonight Show on June 20 and confirmed it.
But in an interview with Good Morning America, Grande said that they’re going to take their time planning their wedding, so don’t expect these two lovebirds to get hitched until at least 2019.
Model Gigi Hadid and One Direction’s Zayn Malik dated for two years. And they made such a gorgeous couple too. We totally assumed that these two were headed for the chapel. After all, Gigi posted one of the sweetest selfie videos ever, and captioned it, “ love this man more than I could ever put into words, & am inspired by his drive to be and do better everyday." This was her way of wishing Zayn a happy 25th birthday.
But sadly, that post in January was the last one she’d post of the two of them together. On March 13, 2018, Gigi announced on Twitter that she and Zayn had broken up. And the hearts of fans everywhere broke into a trillion pieces. Okay, it wasn't THAT bad, but we certainly didn't see it coming!
In 2017, “Jealous” singer Nick Jonas and Quantico star Priyanka Chopra hit the red carpet at the Met Gala. And they didn’t seem to mind bursting each other’s personal bubble, so rumors started swirling, fast! But when asked about a possible relationship with Nick on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Chopra insisted that it was all platonic.
But by July 2018, the two were wearing matching gold bands and heading to Mumbai so Jonas could meet Chopra’s parents.
Then an insider told Us Weekly that their relationship was “brand new." Well, brand new or not, the two didn’t wait long to get engaged after dating for only two months. And from the looks of it, Nick Jonas has found his one and only.
Reality star Kourtney Kardashian and her model boyfriend Younes Bendjima might have seemed like they were made for each other. But it turns out that they were each other’s kryptonite. And an insider told People that the relationship “didn’t end well." And according to TMZ, photos surfaced of Bendjima getting nice and cozy with a mystery woman in Mexico.
But Bendjima went on Instagram to deny that he was romantically involved with the stranger. He wrote, “They really want me to be the bad guy.” Then, US Weekly mistakenly reported that the couple had gotten back together, but TMZ clarified that while the former couple was spotted together, they are both very much single.
An insider told People, “For the past two weeks, they have spent a lot of time together." The insider also claimed that Dakota Johnson was hanging out a lot in Malibu where Coldplay singer Chris Martin lives. Coincidence? Of course not.
Look at the way they stare at each other!
The new couple supposedly loves to take long walks on the beach or walk around the neighborhood. They also invite friends over to his house for dinner like a normal lovey-dovey couple. In fact, they were spotted having lunch in Gjelina in Venice, Italy and they seemed very much in love. The insider added, “They snuggled up to each other during lunch." Yup! That definitely sounds like things are getting serious.
The Kendra on Top star called it quits with her NFL husband, Hank Baskett, but it wasn’t like she didn't try to make the relationship work. On April 2, Kendra posted a video on her Instagram story, and boy was it emotional! With tears in her eyes, she said, “Ten years. I did everything I could. It wasn’t good enough. I will always love him and my heart will always remain open for him."
She added that she believed in everlasting love, but it seemed obvious that her relationship to Baskett was dunzo. She also confessed that she was terrified about what the future would bring. Fortunately, she still has her kids, Hank Baskett IV and Alijah Mary, who will get her through this.
In 2018, British-American model Emily Ratajkowski and film star Sebastian Bear-McClard got hitched. But they didn’t go all out for her wedding like other celebrities. Earlier this year, Ratajkowski posted on Instagram that she and her boyfriend of just a few short weeks had gotten married at City Hall In New York City.
The wedding was quite a surprise to her followers!
After all, Ratajkowski never officially confirmed she broke things off with music producer Jeff Magid. But according to Elle, she’s been hitting like on Bear-McClard's Instagram posts since 2017. Apparently, the two have been friends long before they realized they had a promising future together.
Ben Affleck’s relationship with Saturday Night Live television producer Lindsay Shookus seemed pretty solid. They were spotted at a mall in Puerto Rico while taking a break from filming the Netflix movie The Last Thing He Wanted on the island. But an insider told People that Affleck was “never fully committed” to the relationship.
In fact, Affleck was photographed spending some time with 22-year-old model Shauna Sexton towards the end of July, which was a sign that Affleck and Shookus were heading to Splitsville. Then, another insider told People that Affleck had spiraled during his sobriety, and Shookus felt that it was in his best interest that they break things off, as she couldn't handle his issues with substance dependency.
Fans rooting for Chris Pratt to get back with Anna Faris should forget it because he seems perfectly happy with his new girlfriend Katherine Schwarzenegger. The two appeared to have been dating since at least June. Pratt was also seen in Patrick Schwarzenegger’s Instagram videos having a meal with Katherine’s family.
While the relationship is still new, Pratt certainly has Katherine’s mom, Maria Shriver, eating out of the palm of his hand.
After all, an insider told People that Shriver was the one that set them up. There’s no word on what the former California “Governator” thinks of Pratt dating his daughter, but hopefully, he doesn’t go all Terminator on the Jurassic World actor.
Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk has sent satellites, and his sports car, into space. But somehow, his relationship with Justice League actress Amber Heard crashed and burned not once, but twice. An insider told People that “Elon decided it was time to end it and Amber agreed." The first time they broke up was because Musk had a terribly busy schedule. But his schedule still seemed pretty packed the second time around.
After all, Musk has been working on the Tesla Model 3, which doesn’t exactly leave a lot of time for dating. But, the Tesla founder also confessed to Rolling Stone that he simply can't function without a girlfriend, even if he's one of the most successful and brilliant minds on the planet. “I will never be happy without having someone. Going to sleep alone kills me,” he shared. That would put a lot of pressure on anyone!
It seemed like Kendall Jenner was ready to enjoy the single life for a while after breaking up with supposed boyfriend Blake Griffin.
But then, Australian basketball player Ben Simmons came along and they literally had a lot of fun in the sun when they were in Mexico in August 2018.
An insider told E! Online, "They've had a fun few days of pool and beach time at Joe Francis' house in Punta Mita." But according to E!, Kendall was not “fully committed” to the relationship. It was more of a summer fling. And now that it’s over, she seems to have moved on to Anwar Hadid, Bella’s brother, according to TMZ.
Australian rapper Iggy Azalea told Y 100 Miami that she and NFL player DeAndre Hopkins were officially dating. But a few days later, she went on social media and wrote, “I’m single."
But don’t expect Iggy to be crying about it while in bed with a box of chocolates, because she’s not that kinda girl. According to People, she wrote, “I have come to the conclusion I am going to be alone forever. I am completely fine with that.” On her Twitter rant, Azalea claimed that the reason for the breakup was the result of some revealing photos she posted online, which he didn’t feel were appropriate.
Over the last eight months, Titanic star Leonardo DiCaprio and Argentinean model Camila Morrone have been hitting it off. And they don’t seem to care that there’s an age gap of 22 years between them. An insider told Us Weekly, “They’re very in love and serious."
However, the 43-year-old actor hasn’t publicly said anything about the relationship, and neither has 21-year-old Morrone.
But the insider claims, “They’ve talked about getting engaged." The insider also hinted that DiCaprio is ready to start a family, and so is she- but apparently she’s a traditional gal and would like for DiCaprio to put a ring on it first.
British singer Harry Styles dated French-American model Camille Rowe for a year. But according to The Sun, the couple decided to go their separate ways shortly after Styles wrapped up his world tour. But ironically, Rowe had been supporting Styles at an LA concert shortly before that happened. Then again, she’s always been supportive of his career.
So, fans can only speculate as to what led to the breakup since neither of them has said a word about it. But he certainly didn’t seem broken up about the split when he was having lunch with Diane Von Furstenberg and Karlie Kloss in Sicily shortly after, and he appeared to be in good spirits.
Golf happens to be musician Niall Horan’s favorite sport. He even went to the US Masters golf tournament with his singer/actress girlfriend Hailee Steinfeld. Now, this might not seem like a big deal to us, but the tournament is a four-day event, and according to the Mail on Sunday newspaper, they stayed in the same place together. He also didn’t mind shopping with Steinfeld at Saks Fifth Avenue before she went to perform at Radio City Music Hall.
But you want to know how we know Horan is so obviously head-over-heels for her?
He flew more than 2,000 miles from Mexico City to New York City to hang with her. If that’s not love, we don’t know what is.
No one told Jennifer Aniston that life was going to be this way after her second marriage went extinct like the dinosaurs. But unlike her first divorce from Brad Pitt, her breakup with Theroux seems to have been peaceful.
“We are two best friends who have decided to part ways as a couple,” said Aniston in a statement released by her publicist, Stephen Huvane. They announced their split last year but were seen together in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico for their annual vacation. Still, the two claim they're just friends now. An insider told ET that one of the reasons they ended things was because Theroux wanted to live in New York and she wanted to live in Hollywood, and the two just couldn’t compromise.
