10 Celebs Who Are Friends With Their Exes (+ 10 Who Moved On)

Relationships are hard work, no matter who you are. Being a movie star, model, or rock star doesn’t exclude someone from relationship drama or hardships. In fact, it may make having a personal life even more difficult. Celebrities can’t do anything without alerting the media. If they have dinner with someone, paparazzi will take pictures. If celebrities are dating and don’t show up at an event together, the news next day will be all about how they’re having relationship trouble.

When do celebrities have time to get to know each other if one of them is in a different location filming a movie or the other one is touring around the world for six months? While having a relationship can be hard work, ending a relationship can also be more difficult as a celebrity. Two celebs who used to date might have to continue working long hours, writing music together, even filming a love scene together, all while remaining professional. That seems like major drama waiting to happen.

However, it seems as though some celebrities have learned the secret to splitting up and remaining friends. Here are 10 celebrities who have remained friends with their exes and 10 who have moved on.

After a five-year relationship, the couple called it quits. While the duo kept their breakup quiet for a while, Gaga eventually admitted that she blamed her busy work schedule while filming A Star is Born for the demise of the relationship.

The couple is reportedly still friends, and Kinney even talked about how proud he was of her after her Oscar performance with Bradley Cooper.

Denise Richards and Charlie Sheen have had all their dirty laundry aired, including their very dramatic divorce. The pair met on the set of Loaded Weapon in 1991 and married in 2002. Their divorce was announced in 2006, when Richards was six months pregnant with their second daughter.

Richards filed a restraining order against Sheen and in return Sheen took to social media to call her greedy and vain. They try to stay civil for their children, but it’s pretty clear that the pair will never be best friends.

The couple was married for almost 11 years, constantly talking about how the other made them laugh. They never gave a reason for their split, although some have thought that work schedules played a part as well as Willis’ love of women.

Whatever the reason, they have remained friends. Moore even surprised Willis at his Comedy Central Roast in 2018 by lovingly roasting him.

via etcanada.com

Sofia Vergara and Nick Loeb dated for two years before getting engaged in 2012. They were engaged for an additional two years before calling off their engagement in 2014. However, they didn’t have a very healthy relationship and were on-and-off throughout their four years together.

While they were together, the couple froze embryos to be used in the future. After breaking up, Loeb took Vergara to court because he still wanted to use the embryos and this resulted in a very dramatic and public ordeal. It doesn’t look like friendship will ever be in the cards for these two.

They remained co-stars for many years afterwards and were able to keep things professional, but it doesn’t look like the pair will ever be friends.

Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz dated for four years before calling it quits in 2006, and fans were saddened. At the time there were rumors of a bad breakup, especially since Timberlake immediately started dating his now wife, Jessica Biel.

Us Weekly states that when asked about working with Timberlake, Diaz said, “We're friends; he's really talented and funny, and we're good at being funny together.”

Zylka took to Twitter to announce their split by replying to a fan’s comment with, “Don't have a girlfriend. She decided she was too good.” The pair continued to go back and forth on Twitter with harsh words so it’s safe to say their breakup didn’t end well.

via indianexpress.com

Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield were co-stars and love interests in The Amazing Spider-Man in 2010. While they were both involved in other relationships while filming, those relationships ended less than a year later and in 2012 the pair were spotted kissing. While Stone and Garfield didn’t comment on the status of their relationship, it is believed that they broke up in 2015.

The duo seems to have remained friends. They have been seen embracing at award shows and congratulating each other on new endeavors. It’s nice to see a friendly relationship in Hollywood even after a breakup.

11 Moved On: Guy Ritchie & Madonna

via hellomagazine.com

Guy Ritchie and Madonna met in 1999 and were definitely considered a power couple. They married a year later and stayed married for eight years before filing for divorce. The divorce was extremely public and complicated, especially since they were finalizing the adoption of their son.

via metro.co.uk

Unless you avoid all types of social media, you’ve probably heard about Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries’ 72-day marriage in 2011. Because of the TV show Keeping Up With The Kardashians, we got to follow their relationship pretty closely, even when Kim realized she didn’t want to be married anymore.

The divorce proceedings were extremely untidy and drawn out, and Humphries even said Kim had used their relationship for publicity. Us Weekly reported that Humphries “tries to stay as far out of the spotlight as possible and truly wants zero association with Kim.”

via glamour.com

However, they did date again briefly in 2017 but again broke up less than a year later. Evans told USA Today, "You know, relationships are tricky, there are lot of moving pieces. But I am endlessly grateful for having met her. She will be in my life always."

7 Moved On: Ariana Grande & Pete Davidson

via people.com

Everything about Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson’s relationship was public from the moment they met on Saturday Night Live in 2016, including their public comments about each other after their failed engagement.

When they met, both parties were in other relationships but eventually started dating in 2018, although the relationship was quite the whirlwind romance. They started dating in May, got engaged in June, and ended their engagement in October. It doesn’t seem as though it ended very amicably since Davidson made jokes about their relationship on SNL and Grande took to Twitter to criticize her ex.

6 Friends: Paul Wesley & Phoebe Tonkin

via pinterest.com

The Vampire Diaries co-stars Paul Wesley and Phoebe Tonkin met on set in 2012 and began dating a year later. TVD fans were ecstatic about the relationship and the duo proved they were the cutest couple ever through pictures posted on IG. Because of this, it was immediately noticeable when the couple stopped posting pictures of each other in 2016, after four years of being together.

Both Wesley and Tonkin have been tight-lipped about the reason for their breakup. E! News reported that, "They are still good friends. The relationship just ran its course."

5 Moved On: Noah Cyrus & Lil Xan

via insider.com

Noah Cyrus and Lil Xan splashed onto the scene with all kinds of PDA and announced their relationship in June of 2018. The pair ended as quickly as they began and in similar fashion too, meaning their split was just as public.

Lil Xan posted a tearful video in which she said Cyrus stepped out on her. Cyrus replied, publicly of course, saying that Lil Xan had been the disloyal one! Lil Xan also claimed their relationship had been set up by their record label and didn’t mean anything while Cyrus insisted it was real.

With such a dramatic and complicated breakup, we don't see a happy reconciliation between these two in future.

4 Friends: Joe Jonas & Demi Lovato

via etonline.com

Demi Lovato has been friends with the Jonas family for years. She was on their show, Camp Rock, in which she played the love interest of Joe Jonas. While their on-screen characters were falling in love, Lovato claimed she was falling in love with Joe Jonas IRL. They ended up dating for a month or two in 2010.

It was during their Camp Rock 2 tour when Lovato got into a fight with one of their back-up dancers that Jonas realized she had a substance problem. Although their romantic relationship was short-lived, their friendship continues to this day.

3 Moved On: Johnny Depp & Amber Heard

via people.com

From the moment they started dating to their divorce, and the drama that followed, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s entire relationship was dramatic and very public.

The pair met in 2009 when they played love interests in The Rum Diary. They didn’t end up dating until 2012. They got engaged two years later, and got married in 2015. Heard filed for divorce in 2016, but the two years of their engagement and marriage were full of dramatic incidents, such as calls to the police. Their divorce proceedings were long and it seems the two are better off apart.

2 Friends: Kaley Cuoco & Johnny Galecki

via etonline.com

Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki were co-stars and love interests on The Big Bang Theory for over a decade. Both Cuoco and Galecki prefer to keep their personal lives private, and they even managed to start and end a two-year relationship without the media or fans knowing about it.

When asked about the secrecy, Us Weekly reports that Galecki said, “I just worry that it will conflict with people's acceptance of Leonard and Penny. I get the curiosity, but I don't want to distract from the story.”

The pair continues to be great friends and on-screen love interests.

1 Moved On: Taylor Swift & John Mayer

via elle.com

While nothing has been confirmed, there's a ton of evidence to show that Taylor Swift and John Mayer had a short fling. However, it seems like the relationship was as dramatic as it was brief.

This all began in 2009 when Mayer asked Swift to do a duet with him over Twitter. His request led to surprise performances at each other's concerts and a few PDA moments.

Somewhere along the way, the relationship went south and this resulted in songs being written about each other. Taylor Swift’s "Dear John" is pretty obvious, but it’s not clear if John Mayer’s "Paper Doll" is about Swift.
