Acting requires a lot of actors. Beyond stunts or action-packed scenes, comedic timing or the dramatic falling of a single tear, actors also have to fake an interest – and a love – in their co-stars, especially their love interests. Sometimes, this is easy enough to pull off, especially if you have a good working relationship. Sure, kissing a stranger or someone you don’t have feelings for can be awkward, but it’s all part of the gig. Ideally, you get along well enough to make it look believable, for audiences and critics alike. In fact, the chemistry created on camera can extend off-screen, and actors can fall for each other once the scene is over.

Other times, they’re not so lucky. Rather than feel apathetic towards their love interest, some actors are downright hostile towards their romantic counterparts! They don’t mesh well, they have differing views about acting, and, for whatever reason, were able to make it past the table-read. If the actors in question are good enough to disguise their disdain for their coworker, the movie doesn’t suffer. If, on the other hand, the actors aren’t quite as good as they think they are, the film suffers, the press tour suffers, and red carpets become a disaster!

15 Didn't Get Along: Reese Witherspoon & Vince Vaughan, Four Christmases

Seeing them play a couple on-screen in their mediocre holiday-themed flick Four Christmases was jarring to say the least, and, as it turns out, Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughan weren’t exactly gelling on-set either! The pint-sized Oscar winner was, according to thetelegraph.co.uk, nothing short of professional during a paying gig, while the funnyman has a reputation for ad-libbing and going off-script, which clearly didn’t sit well with his silver screen lady love. Their differing acting philosophies created a great deal of tension on set and had them at each other’s throats!

Rumors of their chilly relationship on set abounded, and Witherspoon attempted to shut them down, but, during the subsequent premiers and showings of the film, the two stars didn’t walk the red carpet together even once, which is never a good sign.

14 Didn't Get Along: Leonardo DiCaprio & Claire Danes, Romeo + Juliet

Starring as the doomed eponymous lovers in Baz Luhrmann’s modern take of Romer + Juliet, Claire Danes and swoon-worthy Leonardo DiCaprio were hardly a match made in Shakespearean heaven.

Danes was just 16 years old at the time of filming, compared to DiCaprio’s 22, but apparently, she was the one who had a more mature attitude on the set. Multiple rumors floated around saying that the wise-beyond-her-years Danes disapproved of DiCaprio’s pranks on the cast and crew and his regular goofing off, going out of her way to avoid him whenever she was on set – which is difficult to do, considering the actors shared almost every scene together! According to Bustle.com, DiCaprio, for his part, considered Danes uptight, and the disdain the two held for each other lasted for years later when the actress reportedly turned down a role to play opposite the Oscar winner in 2011’s J. Edgar.

13 Didn't Get Along: Chad Michael Murray & Sophia Bush, One Tree Hill

Us regular people have the luxury of being able to wipe any trace of our exes from our lives when we break up. We remove them from our social media, cut off all ties with their friends, and purge our closets of their belongings. Celebrities, unfortunately, don’t always have such luck.

Chad Michael Murray and Sophia Bush fell in love on the set of One Tree Hill and married just over a year later. Unfortunately, the marriage didn’t last amid rumors of infidelity on Murray’s part and Bush filing for divorce just five months after the pair tied the knot! Adding insult to injury, the two had to continue working together for another four years due to the show’s success. In an interview with Andy Cohen, Bush alluded to the fact that she did, definitely, hate Murray for what he did, but that at the end of the day, she’s a professional.

12 Didn't Get Along: Julia Roberts & Nick Nolte, I Love Trouble

In a true display of vitriol for one another, Julia Roberts and Nick Nolte were anything but in love when they shot the 1994 film I Love Trouble. These two Hollywood heavyweights were feuding so badly that they demanded to shoot their scenes separately and called in the aid of body doubles whenever a scene required them to be shown together! Roberts didn’t mince words when talking about the hostile environment she and Nolte engaged in on the set of the film, calling him “disgusting” at once point and admitting in an interview with Vanity Fair, “It’s no secret that Nick and I didn’t get along like a house on fire.”

Cast and crew working on the film stated that the two couldn’t stand one another, with Roberts being especially angered by Nolte, frustrated with his “machismo” and insulting him at any available opportunity!

11 Didn't Get Along: Patrick Swayze & Jennifer Grey, Dirty Dancing

It’s one of the most iconic films of the 1980s with memorable lines like, “Nobody puts Baby in a corner”, but the stars of Dirty Dancing – Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey – were not nearly so affectionate when the cameras weren’t rolling.

Rather than spill the beans in interviews, the late Swayze took to his autobiography to express his feelings about working with Grey on the film. In The Time of My Life, Swayze vented his frustrations with filming, explaining that Grey was “particularly emotional, sometimes bursting into tears if someone criticized her. Other times, she slipped into silly moods, forcing us to do scenes over and over again.” One such memorable moment that made it on screen is when the two are practicing dancing and Swayze runs his hand down Grey’s side, causing the actress to laugh and Swayze to sigh in visible irritation!

10 Didn't Get Along: Ryan Gosling & Rachel McAdams, The Notebook

We know that they later fell in love on what was considered the most romantic film of the ‘00s, but real-life lovebirds Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams were like oil and water when the first began working together!

According to director Nick Cassavetes, Gosling was once so angered with McAdams’ performance that he demanded she is to be kicked off the set and replaced with someone else to film with him! What followed the demand was a heated argument in the producer’s room, filled with plenty of screaming as the two temperamental actors tried to hash things out. They eventually managed to make it work – at least for that day. While Cassavetes admitted that the rest of filming didn’t run completely smoothly, it was certainly smoother! (And, clearly, the fire between Gosling and McAdams worked out well for them for a little while afterward, too!)

9 Didn't Get Along: Dakota Johnson & Jamie Dornan, Fifty Shades of Grey

While these two seem to have been playing nice since the filming of the Fifty Shades franchise has mercifully wrapped, when the first installment of the scandalous series came to the big screen, tongues everywhere were wagging about how the hatred the two leads for each other was evident because of the complete lack of chemistry between them! Despite being one of the steamiest books in recent history, there wasn’t a whiff of anything steamy between these two!

Multiple reshoots were required from Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan in order to obtain that much-needed chemistry, which simply strained things between the two. The overtly seductive nature of the film also made them – including Dornan, a husband and father – extremely uncomfortable, and that awkwardness translated to the red carpet and press interviews. According to more.com, they are even denying the fact that they might just really dislike one another...

8 Didn't Get Along: Sharon Stone & William Baldwin, Sliver

A good way to know you’re not getting along with your coworker? When they try to bite you in the face! This unorthodox tactic was taken by actress Sharon Stone during the filming of the 1993 erotic thriller Sliver alongside William Baldwin because she hated him that much!

According to more.com, they allegedly hated one another on-sight, the allure of a paycheck was clearly too much for the actors, who managed to tough it out despite never warming up to one another. In fact, during the filming of one scene, Stone had had enough of her costar and, when the two were about to have a sloppy tongue-kiss, the actress bit into Baldwin’s tongue! The injury was apparently so severe that the actor was unable to speak for almost a week! We’d say that definitely qualifies as a hostile work environment!

7 Didn't Get Along: Naya Rivera & Mark Salling, Glee

Another instance of bitterness after lost love, Naya Rivera, and Mark Salling first enjoyed working together on the set of Glee, and became a couple off-screen as well as on. For three years, the two were together in romance as well as career, until, according to Rivera, Salling was advised by his publicist to dump the actress, saying that she wasn’t good for his image.

Rivera has a bit of a reputation for being volatile in relationships, and hers with Salling was no different, with her allegedly keying his car on one occasion and dumping birdseed, eggs, and dog food on it on another! Of course, Rivera clearly knew that Salling was a bad dude after he was arrested on charges that are just unspeakable – something that Rivera was “not surprised” to learn!

6 Didn't Get Along: Marilyn Monroe & Tony Curtis, Some Like It Hot

An oldie but a goodie, the feud between Marilyn Monroe and Tony Curtis on the set of Some Like It Hot is Hollywood legend.

The film was released in 1959, three years before Monroe’s death but, according to Curtis, she had already “gone funny”, on account of the substances she was taking at the time. While Monroe was considered the most beautiful woman of the era – and, indeed, her gorgeous looks have been pointed to as emblematic of the decade – acting across from the blonde siren was anything but wonderful. Curtis was quoted as saying that kissing the actress was like “kissing Hitler”! (Monroe was a regular Lindsay Lohan on set at the time, showing up late if at all and ruining scenes. Director Billy Wilder didn’t even invite her to the wrap party!) Another on-screen love interest, Laurence Olivier, also found her unprofessional and unpredictable.

5 LOVE IRL: Emma Stone & Andrew Garfield, The Amazing Spider-Man

Before there was Mary-Jane Watson, there was Gwen Stacy, which was great for real-life couple Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield! The pair met while filming The Amazing Spider-Man and were inseparable for four years until 2015, when we lost out faith in love when the two split for good.

There’s do denying that these two were extremely fond of one another, and have kept things full of sweetness and heart-eye emojis since they called in quits. When Stone was nominated – and won – for her role in La La Land in 2017, Garfield gave her a standing ovation and sang her praises in red carpet interviews. While these two are no longer together, we’re still holding out hope that something – another movie, perhaps? – will bring them together again.

4 LOVE IRL: Miley Cyrus & Liam Hemsworth, The Last Song

These two crazy kids had a rocky go of things a few years back, but now they seem more solid than ever! After meeting on the set of The Last Song in 2010 (another Nicholas Sparks adaptation that saw real-life love blossom), Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth fell head over heels for one another and got engaged in 2012.

As we all know, what followed was a period of craziness for Cyrus that saw her cut loose, complete with a foam finger and glittery pasties, and the engagement was called off and the couple split up for a while in 2013. However, with time apart to grow and mature, these two lovebirds found their way back to one another and got engaged again! Now parents to a menagerie of animals, we think they've got the stuff to make it for the long haul.

3 LOVE IRL: Blake Lively & Ryan Reynolds, Green Lantern

Giving us #couplegoals since they met in 2010, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds were able to at least get one good thing out of the turkey Green Lantern!

While the couple met in 2010, their relationship wouldn’t go public until late 2011, but they’ve shown us that the waiting was worth it! After tying the knot in 2012, the couple has since welcomed two daughters, James and Ines, and have mostly kept their marriage healthy by behaving like two normal, happy people! In addition to ribbing each other on Twitter and Instagram, the pair are also adorably devoted to one another in interviews, press circuits, and red carpets. (For the record, both of these beautiful people have a history of falling for their costars: Lively dated Gossip Girl costar Penn Badgley for three years while Reynolds had a thing with his sitcom costar Traylor Howard in the late ‘90s.)

2 LOVE IRL: Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie, Mr. & Mrs. Smith

We know that these two didn’t end up as the happily ever after we had pictured, but it was quite a sight to watch Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie fall in love during the filming of Mr. and Mrs, Smith in 2004.

While Pitt was still married to actress Jennifer Aniston, which of course started the tabloid-fuelled “feud” between the two actresses for years to come – Jolie was a free agent, despite having a long list of former costars as her ex-lovers. Pitt split from Aniston in 2005, adopted Jolie’s three children, and the pair were together but unwed for almost ten years – with an additional three biological children added to their brood in the meantime! After exchanging “I dos” in 2014, the fairytale that divided the public went south as Jolie filed for divorce and primary custody in 2016. But hey, we can’t deny that what was once between them was very real!

1 LOVE IRL: Channing Tatum & Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Step Up

Another real-life couple that visibly fall in love as the film progresses, we have Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan-Tatum. While on the set of the 2006 dance movie Step Up, with Dewan-Tatum as a ballerina and Tatum as a guy from the streets who’s got the moves, these two kept things pretty quiet until their wedding in 2009.

In the nine years since they tied the knot, this couple was going stronger than ever, wearing matching couple costumes on Halloween, gushing over their mutual adoration online and in interviews, and being doting parents to daughter Everly – until April 2nd 2018, when they announced their surprise split via Channing's Instagram! Keeping things amicable for the sake of their daughter, there’s still no doubt in our minds that these two definitely found love IRL while on set, even if it didn’t have them riding off into the sunset forever.
