We all know the hype surrounding Coachella and many other summer festivals. While some of us would rather scroll through social media to see the action, others want to be surrounded by other people having fun in the sun every single minute. I love to sit on the sidelines and roll through Instagram to see what people are wearing. One thing I've figured out is that these festivals are all about the fashion! From appropriation of other’s cultures, to literally so many flowers I want to puke, the list is never ending when it comes to bad festival fashion. In this list, we’ll be exploring major issues when it comes to festival fashion choices and while of course anyone can wear whatever they want, sometimes it just goes a bit too far. From just being sloppy to embracing fast fashion and trends, everything is on this list so you might want to brace yourself. You might find you’ve been doing some of these things as well! Hopefully in the future we will all be able to see people trying to be a bit more creative and embracing their own style instead of following trends, because yes even the celebrities constantly follow each other’s trends for the one week they’re even relevant. Let the #Coachella peanut gallery begin!

20 What Is That?!

Oh no, what even is that?! Katy Perry is sporting a neon camo designer dress with sporty neon matching shades. Not to mention the horrid pink cut out boots. What was she thinking?! This whole look in general really doesn’t do her justice, but the truth is that it wouldn’t look good on anyone! I’d really love to know what she was thinking with that color combo and even just the accessories she pulled together for this look. Although in past years she’s recovered from this nightmare, it’s just such a bad look many still can’t believe it even happened in the first place. Let’s not even talk about style anymore but simply the practicality of something like this at a Coachella festival just doesn’t make sense at all. I’m all about comfortable chic when going to a festival, obviously Katy Perry wasn’t. Would you wear something like this to a summer festival? Kudos to you if you would!

19 Flower Crowns

While this simple look might seem harmless at first, don’t be mistaken! Flower crowns are at the peak of fast indie fashion and honestly I have no clue as to why they’re still hanging around summer fashion! Flower crowns are seriously cliche and just make everyone think that you listen to Lana Del Rey everyday. Flower crowns reached popularity back in 2013, and back then they were really cute, but today flower crowns seem dated and a bit too lazy when it comes to styling a festival outfit. While this minimalist approach to many more excessive flower crowns is the way to go if you really want to sport a flower crown. It would probably be best if you just left the crown behind and tried a new trendy hairstyle instead. You never know, even a loose braid could match your outfit a bit more than faux flowers!

18 Fringe

The fringe is never a good idea, but it always comes around no matter what! While this look isn’t one of the top worst Coachella looks, it is pretty close. Mixing those studded boots, lace short shorts, suede hat, flouncy shirt, and fringe is just too much. The whole look together is awful and should just be stopped! While fringe was popular in the past and has made a few short comebacks, anyone interested in fashion 101 would know that it doesn’t last and when you mix fringe and fringe together it never works! Stick with simple silhouettes or one single statement piece to really make a huge impressed when it comes to your festival outfits. This way you’ll still stand out from the crowd, yet still be comfortable and expressing your own style with a bit of a summer twist. Just experiment and have fun!

17 Not Into It

Those people that hate on everyone else's fun and crazy outfits while they just wear the most boring gear of all are too negative and don't want to leave their comfort zone to have a bit of fun. This would normally be perfectly okay... but when there's so much hate and negativity being spread around, it's not a good thing. While this chic look would be great for brunch with friends or even a date, when you wear something like this to a festival, you’re just going to successfully convince everyone that you don’t believe in fun! Try to get out of your comfort zone by including a statement piece, something you wouldn’t normally wear. Finding the happy medium between the two and really trying to maximize this summer festival to it’s fullest by having fun and being involved! What would your signature statement piece for your outfit be?

16 Fall Boots

How does this even make sense?! Wearing fall boots with bikinis, short shorts, and of course to top it all off, flower crowns, is not a good idea. These types of fall ankle boots are seriously like a plague when it comes to summer festival fashion. It just isn't super flattering when you’re all decked out in summer gear! Kendall Jenner wore these nude ankle boots at Coachella and while the outfit is cute, this look could have been much better if those boots were just left behind. Go for some hot trainers that are trending and probably a lot more breathable when walking around all day. Fall boots don’t seem that practical when they’re designed to hold in heat, unless you really do want your feet to reek when you go back to your tent. Not sure your festival buddies would appreciate that! Opt for breathable sneakers or trainers that are stylish and sleek!

15  A Different Season

Wearing regular clothing can make you stand out more than going all crazy with body paint! It’s not a good look. How boring can you get? This is supposed to be a time where people can have fun and explore the freedom that comes with festivals. When it comes to rocking normal clothes at a party such as Coachella, it makes it seem like those individuals aren’t even wearing summer looks! More like spring and fall! Get it together, people! Once again, this type of look really doesn’t make anyone stand out like they want to when they go to a festival. Festival fashion is all about having fun and trying new things. Try something a bit more stylish and summery, search for on trend ways to create an interesting hairdo or DIY a shirt that will be the only shirt like that in the world! Whatever you do just remember to have fun!

14 American Flags

Any flag is a bit too much, not to mention how many people find wearing your country's flag on your body a bit distasteful. From the flip flops to the matching unitards, this look is not cute. Nope. It’s not cute and it never will be. What were these people thinking?! If you want to match with your partner, find something a bit cuter like a matching band shirt or a matching hat, button, or patch! There are so many options for matching something cute with your partner, but this is just way too far. Do I really need to say much else about how this look is just devastating? Not only this look but any look that has someone wearing a country's flag on their body just seems a bit too disrespectful. There’s just something off about it. Try experimenting with colors and finding your own color combo to rock at your next festival. Be eye catching in a way that’s a bit more positive and not because you’re making everyone around you cringe!

13 Costumes

Not only are huge costumes not practical when going to a summer festival you’ll be spending all day at, it’s also a bit rude to the people around you. Everyone is jam packed into a small space so wearing excessive things that could get ruined or even block someone’s view is annoying. A huge costume that just gets in the way every time you move, how could that possibly be comfortable or even make you feel cute! While many people at festivals even go larger than this, even minor things like this hat or boots can cause other people some major discomfort. Since when did festivals become a place to focus on fashion for a weekend, when it’s supposed to be about the music! Sticking to something a bit more form fitting that not only looks chic and stylish, as well as functional, but it would also help everyone get along around you, instead of causing people to get heated because they can’t see the performance from behind your huge hat!

12 Stop With The Flowers

It’s great to experiment with style, but when it comes to florals during a summer festival, that brings us way back to 2013 and we don’t want to be there. From flowers as bras, headbands, underwear, boob covers, and decorations in a man's beard, these are too much for me to handle anymore! This Coachella look is excessive and over the top and while that might make some right at home. I know the fashion and style gurus have had enough of the cliche flower look! Even as I’m writing this, I’m sick of seeing all the flowers people try to incorporate into their summer festival looks. While some pull it off, in most cases it’s a bit of a stretch just because of how dated this look is, yet people keep pushing and pushing it every year. Maybe we can all agree that next year we can try something a bit more unique?!

11 All Black

Not comfortable at all! This just looks like a sweat disaster waiting to happen! Summer festivals are all about color and expressing yourself in a place you feel safe and free to express your own style and expression. While this would be cute as an everyday look, these sisters really should have tried to go out of their comfort zone instead of settling for an outfit they would have normally rocked out on the town. I can’t imagine that this look actually held up well with all the heat. While they both do look super cute, it just looks a bit ridiculous at a summer festival like this. Maybe trying to take aspects of this look and transform them into something more unique that's a bit more flattering as well, then it could work, but as the outfit was, it was a bit of a reach. Do you agree that this was a fail, or would you rock something like this this summer?

10 Beach Wear

This whole look is too much! You don't want to look like you're heading to the hotel pool instead of spending a day out in the desert. It’s not a flattering look and makes quite a bit of people look dumb. Beach wear, just like underwear, is really not a great choice when you’re packed in a crowd and it just makes everyone including yourself, uncomfortable. A bikini paired with a very bold and dated skirt, this look didn’t do Paris Hilton any favors with her fans. This look has been on every single worst dressed Coachella lists for years, so there’s no way I couldn’t include it. While people usually confuse summer clothes with beach wear, the two aren’t the same, summer wear usually embraces something flouncy and flowing, not something that just looks like you’re heading to the pool! Maybe next time stick with a small top that really looks a bit more chic than just a cheap bikini!

9 Zebra Skinnies

Zebra skinny jeans paired with a plaid flannel... Do I need to say more?! Jared Leto might be one of the most loved celebs in history (especially today with all the amazing work he’s been doing in various communities), but sorry Jared. This doesn’t excuse the fact that this look just isn't cutting it. While sometimes mixing and matching patterns can work out in someone’s favor, it doesn't work in this particular case. This Coachella style should be left in the past, but I couldn’t help bringing it up to serve as a warning to anyone who thinks this look actually looks hot! Do I really need to say anything else about this look? Other than it just is overall one of the worst looks on this entire list!? Would you wear something as crazy as this, have you in the past? Either way this look just needs to stay in the distant past!

8 Bindis

Don’t even get me started on how rude wearing a bindi is! Because it's really awful! It’s that simple. Just take it off and don’t steal someone else's culture. These are also known as face jewels and when it comes to festival attire, they are honestly out of the question. They don’t look fantastic and they don’t look good on individuals who are stealing from someone else’s culture. I’d love to know what these individuals have to say when confronted about appropriating another culture! Maybe some people aren’t aware of how bad this is, and if they aren’t, talk to them about it and help them understand and hopefully that will start to sink in over time. Maybe just experiment with makeup if you want to bring more attention to your face, that way you can easily change up the look when you’re bored of it. There’s no need to take someone else’s culture away from them just for a summer festival.

7 Underwear

Good for you that you have the confidence to rock underwear in public... but sometimes, a look like this can really make others uncomfortable simply because of how close everyone is to each other at a summer music festival. This kind of look should really just stay at home or honestly anywhere but a festival. Not only does this look not flatter anyone, it just goes to show how far people will go to not think carefully about their fashion choices. You should think more about what looks good together instead of going outside and looking like you got dressed in the dark! Ugh! It’s much more flattering when every piece of your outfit was chosen for a specific purpose. Being purposeful with fashion is a very easy and mindful way to stand out and you definitely shouldn't look like you just threw together a random outfit.

6 The Extra Hat

Just like the huge costumes, you can achieve the same level of discomfort by wearing a huge hat in a crowd. While this outfit is pretty cute, this hat just ruins the whole ensemble! Just stop while you’re ahead! You don’t need something like this! This hat is way too much when going to a summer music festival because there will probably be people behind you trying to see over the crowd. It’s just not considerate. Try a fun hairstyle instead that captures your creativity and will probably be less hot than wearing a very large hat. Maybe this next summer festival you plan on going to, you can forget the big hat and bring something a bit more thoughtful when ti comes to the people around you! Possibly a smaller hat that gives similar coverage if that’s what you’re worries about. Or maybe even just stick to big shades and a neat hairstyle!

5 Masks

I get there might be a practical reason behind it, but people need to stop wearing masks to festivals! On top of all the obvious reasons behind why you shouldn't wear these, I think for most people it just comes down to one thing: it's not that cute! It really ruins the chemistry of a whole outfit that you’ve spent time putting together. Masks get in the way of makeup, and most likely, wearing masks makes breathing and cooling off a bit harder when out there in the direct sun and extreme heat. Just leave behind the mask and stick with an easy scarf that still looks stylish and brings your whole outfit together. You can definitely find something that works better with the rest of your style instead of something overly excessive and that just ends up being the focus of your whole outfit! Anything would be better than masks!

4 So-Called Festival Wear

Found at your local trendy mall! This is the worst! Fast fashion is a whole other issue we don’t have time to cover but clothing that is already branded so it's easy and effortless isn't super amazing. These clothes are made to look DIY and they are ruining the fashion industry as we know it. Not to mention the fact that these so-called festival clothes are way too marketed and they look cheap. You can definitely have some fun and get creative with your festival looks and do it yourself, but instead people would rather pay too much money for these clothes. Just look up some DIYs for inspiration and get to work on a summer festival outfit that matches your unique style and really pushes the limits of your creativity. There’s nothing wrong with not going with the flow when it comes to trendy fashion. If anything, it’s refreshing and inspiring when people do their own thing!

3 Tutus

This is not middle school! The tutus need to stop! And honestly, so do those furry boot covers. I won’t even mention this flower headband. Not only do people think this is cute but many celebs have tried this look as well. From the low rise of the tutu because it’s so short, those furry boots, and a bra, this look is probably one of the worst outfits on this whole list. There is nothing about this photo that’s cute, and it could honestly be made a little bit cuter if there was just some effort. Possibly trying out a crop top that coordinates with the tutu, or even trying a skater skirt with creepers would be a much more pulled together et still functional outfit that is trendy but expressing your style. That could be a look that turns heads for all the right reasons opposed to something thrown together like this.

2 Spikes

I hate this whole look, especially the cultural appropriation, but also that spiked thing she’s wearing on her chest! At least this outfit matches! The bra and everything going on in this photo should be put away and never worn again. It doesn't matter who wears this outfit because it wouldn’t look good on anyone, no matter what shape or size, because of how dated it looks. And, of course, taking something from someone else's culture is never a smart or polite idea. I feel like anyone that wears something like this is just trying to fit in by being edgy and incorporating funky festival culture into their outfit, but it usually turns out like a jumbled mess. Everyone should just really try to take the time to think their fashion choices through. Would you wear a spiked bra like this? Please don’t! I know I wouldn’t and I’d definitely would be sure not to sport something from another culture either!

1 Put The Headdress Down!

There is absolutely NO need to sport a headdress when going to a summer festival. The whole trend is stupid and very unnecessary... not to mention beyond offensive. Taking something from someone else’s culture and wearing it without any regard to what it really means (and not being active in that community yourself) is a bad idea. Respect where people come from and embrace your own culture and be open to learning about others. That does not mean that anyone should go out and wear a sacred war bonnet for a festival. We see it time and time again and honestly it needs to stop right now! We all have to learn to be respectful of each other and learn what’s right and wrong. So many things in this world are carelessly appropriated, educate those around you and if you see someone wearing something like this, talk to them about it! Help them understand and hopefully there will be some hope for humanity. These festival looks are a big no no!
