Every fashion-forward woman loves to play around with trends. Sure, most of us have a certain style that we gravitate towards, but it can be really fun to pick out one or two trendy pieces that revamp your look a little. Whether it’s a new type of shoe with a classic outfit, or a new top to pair with your most beloved pair of jeans, it can be a huge asset to your style to incorporate some trends every now and then. However, men and women are often very different when it comes to style – something that a man thinks is completely hideous can be a beloved, high fashion item in a woman’s closet that all her friends gush over.

Pretty much every woman’s magazine and site has cycled through some of those trends that divide the genders, and there are definitely a few trends that simply baffle men. At the end of the day, though, ladies? You’re rocking that outfit, not him – if you think you look super chic and feel two seconds from busting out a Beyoncé move because you feel so damn confident, then you better keep that item in rotation. What if he hates it? Well, what if he does? You probably look fabulous. You do you.

After all, as Queen B says, who run the world? Girls. And we do it while looking totally on trend.

20 High Waisted Jeans/Shorts

[caption id="attachment_12543" align="alignnone" width="960"] via: famecherry.com[/caption]

What women see as trendy high-waisted jeans, men see as lame mom jeans. They can’t understand why women would want their jeans to ride so high rather than showing off a little skin. Part of the reason the high waisted trend is so hot right now is because of the rise of the crop top – a high waisted pant allows women to wear a crop top without looking a little too Las Vegas for the grocery store. Plus, honestly, high-waisted jeans can just be really comfortable sometimes and give a great retro look. Sorry, guys – this one is probably around to stay.

19 Peplum

[caption id="attachment_12544" align="alignnone" width="1000"] via: aliexpress.com[/caption]

Most women likely know what peplum is, but in case someone needs a refresher, peplums are the extra piece of fabric on a dress, skirt, or even shirt, that flares out in a little ruffle. They started popping up like wildfire a few years back, mostly because of how they flattered a woman’s figure. Simply put, peplum emphasizes the smallness of your waist while simultaneously disguising any problem areas you might have in your lower stomach (you know that little pooch that many women have? Yeah, peplum will take care of that for you). While it seems like a trend men should love in theory – after all, it emphasizes your curves – in reality, they just think it looks a little weird and too ruffle-y.

18 Wedge sneakers

[caption id="attachment_12545" align="alignnone" width="1500"] via: spoonfulofflair.com[/caption]

Wedge sneakers are one of those fashion trends that guys just don’t get. Most men love a woman in sneakers – it shows she’s not afraid to be a little casual every now and then. However, wedge sneakers are a totally different beast. First of all, even though wedges are a godsend for ladies (so comfortable!), guys tend to find they look clunky and strange on a woman. And honestly, most men are just baffled by the fact that sneakers, a shoe they normally recognize, gets a little lift with a wedge heel. Is it casual? Is it dressy? Can you run in them like a normal sneaker? They just don’t get it.

17 Floppy hats

[caption id="attachment_12546" align="alignnone" width="870"] via: asos.com[/caption]

Floppy hats are definitely a fairly strong look, and most women bold enough to rock them have a definite boho-chic vibe to their personal style. However, it seems that men just aren’t really a fan of this particular type of chapeau. In the words of a regular guy surveyed by thefashionspot.ca, “there are really only 2 places where this hat works: at the beach, and at a horse race.” So, he might cheer your foresight if you bring a floppy hat to the beach to protect your gorgeous face from sunburn, but if you rock it on a regular date downtown? He might try to get you to take it off indoors. Manners, you know?

16 Bandeau bikinis

[caption id="attachment_12547" align="alignnone" width="800"] via: ladytrend.com[/caption]

Okay, many women are huge fans of the bandeau bikini top. First of all, it’s great for tan lines – you’re not stuck with those white strips near your shoulders that most bikinis leave you with. Second, many women find them fairly comfortable, given that they’re essentially just a stretchy strip of fabric. However, let’s be honest for a second here ladies – the bandeau bikini is not always the most flattering look. While regular string bikini tops lift the ladies a little bit, and many even have some padding for those who want a little more curves, it takes a certain body type to rock a bandeau, and guys just aren’t digging them.

15 Jeggings

[caption id="attachment_12606" align="alignnone" width="1600"] via:littlemissladybella.wordpress.com[/caption]

It’s a simple fact – most men love tight jeans on a woman. I mean, it’s hard for anyone not to love that look, but jeggings are a little bit different. For the most part jeggings can become a little saggy over time and that will not compliment a woman's perfectly sculpted behind. There's also the fact that most of the time jeggings are worn with baggy shirts, another item of clothing men do not love. They are comfy and cute but men just don't have the same appreciation for them as we do.

14 Menswear Inspired

[caption id="attachment_12549" align="alignnone" width="3000"] via: thatpleasantsurprise.com[/caption]

One frequently recurring trend over the past few years has been menswear-inspired looks. Women love incorporating a little bit of androgyny into their daily outfits, whether it be a menswear-inspired oxford shoe or simply a jacket that has a different silhouette than women’s clothing tends to. However, guys? Love women’s curves. So it only makes sense that an outfit which downplays those curves wouldn’t earn the most male fans. But at the same time, they absolutely go crazy when a woman wears a men’s shirt with no pants, walking around the house. Go figure.

13 Harem Pants

[caption id="attachment_12550" align="alignnone" width="870"] via: weheartit.com[/caption]

Do we even need to explain this one? Many women love harem pants because they’re trendy, they’re a fun way to incorporate a different type of silhouette into your wardrobe, and most important, they’re crazy comfortable. Seriously – they’re basically like wearing pajama pants, depending on the fabric. However, guys don’t dig the unconventional shape. Most hate how it doesn’t exactly do much to accentuate a woman’s derriere, and others simply think it looks like a diaper – super not sexy. Come on though, guys – a woman who rocks a harem pant is a confident woman who isn’t afraid to take risks. That’s the type of woman you want to keep around!

12 Hair bows

[caption id="attachment_12552" align="alignnone" width="1000"] via: custommade.com[/caption]

While a hair bow might not be something you wear when you want to look ultra professional, they can be a fun way to add a bit of whimsy to your outfit with a simply accessory. Plus, let’s be honest – we just like to play around with our hairstyles every now and then. However, for guys, it’s a huge no-no. To them, hair bows just take them back to when they were on trend in elementary school and every female classmate wore them. What women see as a little quirky and fun, men see as accessories that should be reserved for children.

11 Maxi skirts

[caption id="attachment_12553" align="alignnone" width="1600"] via: wattpad.com[/caption]

For women, the maxi skirt trend has been amazing. Most maxi skirts are super comfortable, and they’re incredibly versatile. They’re flattering and feminine without showing too much leg, something that not all women are comfortable doing, and can be a godsend during those hot summer days. However, men aren’t always a fan. Sure, they like the way some of the tighter maxi skirts cling to your curves, but it’s not their skirt length of choice. Why, exactly? Simple – they want to see as much bare leg as possible. Boys will be boys, right?

10 Ugg boots

[caption id="attachment_12554" align="alignnone" width="736"] via: pinterest.com[/caption]

There’s a common thread between a handful of the fashion trends that women love – they all include a healthy dose of comfort with their stylishness. Sure, we like to get dolled up every now and then and put on our sleekest little black dress and favorite stilettoes. However, it’s pretty exhausting to bring that level of glam every day – sometimes, we just want to shove our sore feet into some cozy fur-lined Uggs and walk around with toasty warm toes and blister-free feet all day. Sure, they’re not the most flattering look, which is why guys hate them – but they have no idea the kind of pain that heels can cause. Keep rocking those Uggs, ladies.

9 Long, fake nails

[caption id="attachment_12555" align="alignnone" width="1936"] via: styledemocracy.com[/caption]

Some women dislike fake nails, but they’ve become such a huge thing in the beauty industry that it’s difficult to argue they’re not a trend. The reason is simple – many women just aren’t able to grow their own nails to the lengths they’d like them to be at, and additionally, fake nails come in endless colors and designs. Yes, nail art can be done on natural nails, but it’s a lot tougher. Men are never going to really notice whether you went for coral nails or tangerine for date night, but if you opt for crazy long acrylic claws? They’ll definitely notice – and they probably won’t be the biggest fans.

8 Bright lip color

[caption id="attachment_12556" align="alignnone" width="3000"] via: youtube.com[/caption]

Women absolutely adore bold lipsticks. They’re just a fun way to mix up your beauty routine. Sure, for a day at the office, most women stick with the traditional reds and pinks, but for girls’ night? Fire truck red, vibrant orange, soulful purple… the possibilities are truly endless. They can totally transform a look from ordinary to high fashion. However, guys hate this look for a fairly selfish reason – they know that, if you’re rocking a bright lip, they won’t be able to kiss you without getting that color all over their own face.

7 Strapless tops

[caption id="attachment_12557" align="alignnone" width="870"] via: tumblr.com[/caption]

Many women swear by strapless tops in the summertime – a bit of bare shoulder can be sexy, and especially if you’re rocking the long hair, it can be a lifesaver to feel a little breeze on your shoulders. But it’s not necessarily a look that men love, simply because many women need a little bit of support to keep all their curves looking perky and in place. Strapless tops, unless you’re blessed with a gravity-defying bust, can make the girls look either flat or a little bit saggy. And since guys are such huge fans of a woman’s curves, they want them looking at their best at all times.

6 Big sunnies

[caption id="attachment_12605" align="alignnone" width="750"] via;www.aliexpress.com[/caption]

We blame Hollywood for this one. Sunglasses are a sensible accessory – they protect your eyes and help prevent you from squinting all day in the bright light. However, as more and more celebrities started wearing big sunnies, they became a trend that women everywhere coveted. For women, big sunglasses add an instant dose of glamour, and can be ultra forgiving at concealing any beauty issues you’re having that day. However, for guys? If you’re rocking huge sunnies, they have trouble seeing your face at best, and worst case scenario, you look a little more fly than vixen.

5 Shoes you can’t walk in

[caption id="attachment_12560" align="alignnone" width="1800"] via: magazine.foxnews.com[/caption]

We know, we know, we’ve all been there – you find an adorable pair of shoes, and they look perfect with your outfit, but after walking for about two minutes you soon realize that they’re torture devices meant for someone who has no feeling in their feet. This one isn’t restricted to high heels – even the most deceptively comfortable looking flats or boots can quickly begin to pinch or rub your feet in ways that will have you wishing you could just whip the shoes off and walk around barefoot. Moral of the story – save those cute but unwalkable pairs for girls’ night in, when the furthest you have to walk is from the couch to the kitchen to refill your wine glass.

4 Boldly printed pants

[caption id="attachment_12561" align="alignnone" width="736"] via: pinterest.com[/caption]

A tight pair of blue jeans is probably one of the clothing items that men find sexiest on a woman – they’re casual, they shows off a woman’s curves, and they just look damn good on a woman’s body. Even a pair of skinny jeans in an untraditional color can be a cute look. However, a boldly printed pant? Guys just don’t get it. Girls take this trend as a way to incorporate a little color, and sometimes texture, into a look. A printed pant and a simple, well-made white tee-shirt? Super chic, according to women. According to guys? Just too much going on in your lower half..

3 Jumpsuits

[caption id="attachment_12562" align="alignnone" width="870"] via: asos.com[/caption]

Are you sensing a trend yet? Men tend to favor looks, in general, that are fairly simple, figure-hugging, and feminine. A jumpsuit is often ultra comfortable, like wearing full body pajamas, but they frequently have unusual silhouettes or fabrics, a bold print, some complex details, or all of the above. A jumpsuit is a more high fashion, trendy look that you can rock for girls’ night out. For date night? Maybe opt for a different outfit – your guy just won’t appreciate how on point your jump suit game is. And why would you waste your incredible jump suit on someone who doesn’t even appreciate it?

2 Flatforms

[caption id="attachment_12563" align="alignnone" width="870"] via: us.asos.com[/caption]

Flatforms are a fun trend – they have a hint of nostalgia, and they’re a way of adding an inch or two of height without having to sacrifice comfort. I mean, what woman who grew up in the 90s can forget owning a pair of platform flip flops? Flatforms have evolved since then, but the basic premise is the same – a huge, clunky sole an inch or two in height. For men, it’s just not a good look. Or, in the words of one man in the Huffington Post, “good for the retired schoolteacher from Florida.” Um… maybe a retired schoolteacher whose style is rocking? Guys just don’t get it.

1 Oversized sweaters

[caption id="attachment_12564" align="alignnone" width="775"] via: thebeautyoflifeis.blogspot.com[/caption]

When the weather gets chilly, an oversized sweater become an indispensable item in a woman’s closet. There is absolutely nothing better than slipping on a big, cozy, knit sweater, preferably with a pair of leggings or comfy jeans and some cute boots. In fact, we basically spend all winter figuring out ways to make oversize sweaters appropriate for every occasion – it’s like walking around with a blanket! However, guys just don’t love it, because they show off absolutely none of your curves and just drown you in fabric. Cozy, soft, scrumptious knitted fabric. Keeping this one too, guys.
