When we look at celebrities, with all their riches and their fame, we tend to idolize them as something more than regular human beings who don’t have regular human being problems. This isn’t the case. Just like us, they too have to pay bills, attend PTA meetings, and have arguments with their folks. While, yes, we too can sometimes have rocky relationships with our parents or other family members, when it comes to celebrities who get into tiffs with their family, it usually is over said money or said fame. More often than not, if a star becomes famous at such a young age, their parents tend to micromanage (I’m looking at you, Kris Jenner, with your “momager” title) every aspect about their child’s life and career. Some would even go as far as steal their own child’s money!

These 15 stars have had more than a rocky relationship with their own parents, so much so that they’ve resorted to either treating them like crap, or end up cutting them out of their lives completely.

15 Lindsay Lohan

Since Lindsay Lohan was a young actress just gaining her footing in Hollywood, she’s had a strained relationship with both her parents, Michael and Dina Lohan, who are now divorced. Since hitting the scene well over a decade ago, Lindsay has fallen on hard times, and her parents seem to be taking the blame for it. “I think, inevitably I think we are responsible for the path that Lindsay took,” father Michael expressed to Steve Harvey on his talk show last year, citing the actress' trouble with drugs and alcohol. “Our divorce, because of our relationship, affected Lindsay to the point where she drowned her sorrows and numbed her pain. And it breaks my heart to think she suffered because of the way I acted.” Lindsay’s parents divorced in 2007 and while she appears to have repaired her relationship with Dina, her relationship with her father seems almost non-existent. Though I can’t blame the actress since both parents seems highly narcissistic and hungry for the spotlight obtained by their daughter.

14 Ariel Winter

According to the Modern Family star Ariel Winter, she grew up already having a pretty strained relationship with her parents – so much so that she got an emancipation, a legal process where you’re deemed an adult before 18 so you can essentially “divorce” your parents. Because of this, Winter was able to take control of her own living and financial situation. The actress’ sister, Shanelle Workman, became her legal guardian from the ages of 14 to 17 and she became legally emancipated at 17. Winters went on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and talked about her rocky relationship with her mother and explained that she is no longer on speaking terms with her. She told DeGeneres that it was her mother who pushed her into acting at the delicate age of four. Not that Winter doesn’t love the craft, she just wishes she had a choice in the matter. “Not to say that this isn’t my passion and I don’t love it,” Winters explained. “I do love it and I would love to continue doing it for the rest of my life. But I also want to explore other avenues. I’ve wanted to go to college since I was very young.”

13 Aaron Rodgers

Fame can apparently change a person. These were the words spoken by the father of Green Bay Packers All-Star quarterback Aaron Rodgers when asked why there was a rift between Rodgers and his entire immediate family. Currently, the quarterback is estranged from both his parents and two brothers – one of which appeared on The Bachelorette. Rodger’s father, Ed Rodgers, confirmed with the Times that no one in the immediate family has spoken with the quarterback since 2014 and has no idea if things had gotten better with Aaron over the last two years. It’s hard to tell sometimes,” Ed said. “Fame can change things.” When Aaron’s brother Jordan went on The Bachelorette, all the family’s dirty laundry with Aaron became public knowledge. “It would have been nice to share JoJo (the bachelorette) with not only my parents and my brother Luke, but Aaron as well,” Jordan said regarding the situation when he brought JoJo home to meet the family. “I miss my brother a lot, especially in moments like this because my family means so much.” Pretty sure it didn’t help matters when the feud became a public affair, but Jordan knew what he was walking into when revealing everything, so that’s all on him and his family, not Aaron.

12 Drew Barrymore

I believe it’s okay to officially hate your parents if they did something like, oh, I don’t know, LOCK YOU UP IN A MENTAL INSTITUTION AT THE AGE OF THIRTEEN AND TAKE ALL YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY. This was the case for actress Drew Barrymore, who hit stardom at the age of five, and by seven, she actually started drinking. By 11, she was a full fledged alcoholic and by 12 she was a drug addict. Even though her mom was her manager, her parents had all but abandoned her. By 13, her mother had her “locked up in an institution,” which Barrymore said was needed at the time and taught her discipline. She ended up divorcing her mother at 14 and branching out on her own by cleaning toilets in order to get by. It was actually the institution that suggested she become emancipated from her mother for her own mental health. It’s sad when a mental institution believes it’s better for a 14-year old to be out in the world alone rather than be paired back up with her crazy mother in the long run. Yikes.

11 Macaulay Culkin

It seems to be somewhat normal that young child actors become emancipated from their over-demanding parents when they hit an age where realization sets in. This happened with actor Macaulay Culkin once he hit fame after the first Home Alone film was released. Culkin has been a millionaire since the age of 10, thanks to his father Kit, who pushed his son into acting at the age of four. Though Culkin once said that his father ruled “his kingdom” by way of humiliation and bullied all his children. “My father was overbearing,” Culkin said of Kit way back in 2004. “Very controlling. He was always the way he is, even before my success. He’d play mind games to make sure I knew my place.” After Culkin retired from acting at the age of 14, Kit ditched his kids and Culkin’s mother Patricia filed for custody of all the kids, which started a public battle with Kit. Eventually, Culkin blocked both parents from controlling his fortune and is estranged for good from Kit.

10 Adele

As of late, Adele is one of the most recognized faces (and voices) in the entire world. She dominated all the charts when she swept onto the scene a few years ago and blew everyone out of the water with her insanely gorgeous voice and soulful lyrics that tugged at the heart strings. Since she’s got her love life and personal life on track, Adele seems pretty much at ease – that is, until you mention her relationship with her own father. Turns out, Adele’s alcoholic father ditched her mother when the songstress was only three years old. Her father had recently spoke to publications (like The Sun) about how he used to treat his family in the past. “I was a rotten father at the time when she really needed me,” he said of his past relationship with Adele. “I was putting away two litres of vodka and seven or eight pints of Stella every day.” When her father suggested that Adele’s lyrics might be a direct reflection of him abandoning her mother, Adele blew up at him and cut off their relationship. “He’s f***ing blown it,” the singer expressed. “He will never hear from me again. It makes me angry. To come back after 10 years and be like, ‘Maybe her problem with men comes down to me.’"

9 Kate Hudson

As we all know, actress Kate Hudson is the golden daughter of actress Goldie Hawn and was pretty much raised by Hawn and her partner Kurt Russell, even though Hudson’s biological father is Bill Hudson. Kate opened up about her estrangement from her natural father on The Howard Stern Show back in 2016 and explained that she eventually found peace after Bill slammed both Kate and her brother Oliver Hudson in DailyMail. “I say to them now, ‘I set you free,’” Bill said. “I had five birth children and I now consider myself a father of three. I no longer recognize Oliver and Kate as my own. Oliver is dead to me now. As is Kate.” Ouch. Kate decided to be the bigger person, however. “I think forgiveness in any aspect is something that is complex,” she told Stern. “It is the greatest tool to be able to separate that attachment. So for me, I recognize whatever those issues are is something he has to live with. That must be painful for him and I forgive him.” Props on being the bigger person there, Kate.

8 Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie and father Jon Voight had always had a rocky, and public, relationship with each other. Years ago when Jolie became famous, her actor father went on Access Hollywood and claimed that Jolie suffered from “serious mental problems”. Well, after that, the entire family broke off contract with Voight, all siding with Angelina, including her mother Marcheline Bertrand. It wasn’t until six years later, when Bertrand started suffering from ovarian cancer, did Jolie publicly reconcile with Voight. They have been on the mend since and were even spotted having dinner with her father following her very public split from actor Brad Pitt. She’s most likely looking to him for advice since he divorced Bertrand back in 1977. Though Jolie isn’t one to be “new” to divorce since she’s been married a couple times before, but this is the first relationship where children are actually involved, so it’s good to have Pops back in her life.

7 Courtney Love

We all know Courtney Love has always been a bit of a wild child all throughout her youth, spilling well over into her adult years. She seemed to spiral downwards after husband Kurt Cobain took his own life over 20-years ago. What’s worse is when your own estranged father actually blabs to the press that he believes you’re actually the reason your own husband took his own life, which is what Hank Harrison, Love’s father, believes. Harrison expressed to RadarOnline.com that he believes his daughter was complicit in her husband’s death and that she’s directly to blame. He’s even planning to publish this very proof in the republishing of his own book Love Kills: The Assassination of Kurt Cobain. So not only are they not on speaking terms with each other, but now her dad is outright blaming her for his son-in-law’s death? What a lovely father/daughter relationship.

6 Gary Coleman

Even though actor Gary Coleman died years ago, the battle with his estranged parents raged long after he was placed in the ground. Back in 1989, when Coleman’s show Diff’rent Strokes was no longer on the air, Coleman sued both of his adopted parents for mishandling his multi-million dollar trust fund. Coleman passed away in 2010 at the age of 42 from a brain hemorrhage he suffered after falling at his own home. Rumors started to swirl around that Coleman left behind a secret will that cut out his parents from what was left of his fortune and his estate. It was Todd Bridges, the screen brother of Coleman’s character on the show, who said he actually had the paperwork where his friend explained that his parents were to get nothing after his death. Both parents went to court in order to get custody over Coleman’s body, but withdrew their court bid after a short time. To this day, his parents claim that it was their ex accountant who had stole all the money from Coleman’s trust fund and not them.

5 Eminem

If you’ve ever listened to rapper Eminem’s music, you know that his relationship with his mother Debbie Mathers is, well, sorta strained, to say the least. Both mother and son have been estranged for more than 15 years, but that’s all on Eminem, according to Debbie, who has been trying to repair their relationship. “I just want to give him a big hug,” Mathers said to MLive.com. “Mama is waiting with open arms. Life is short. Come here, Mama wants a hug.” It appears that Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, doesn’t share his mother’s feelings to patch up their relationship, even though he appears to have addressed it in his lyrics in the song “Headlights”: “to this day we remain estranged and I hate it though, ‘cause you ain’t even get to witness your grand babies grow.” He even apologized for using abusive lyrics against her back in his 1999 album, The Slim Shady LP, which caused her to take action against him for the said lyrics.

4 Roseanne Barr

Actress Rosanne Barr spoke out publicly against her parents back in 1991 when she accused them of physically abusing her while she was growing up. Barr said that she had repressed the memories of abuse and they all come flooding back thanks to former husband Tom Arnold triggering the memories. Her parents, Helen and Jerome Barr, both violently denied all the accusations. “Keeping the secret of incest has taken all my energy and courage for 38 years,” Barr said back in 1991. “For most of my life, voices in my head must have been telling me, ‘Shut up. Shut up. Shut up and take it. There’s nothing you can do, take it, forget it.’” Since digging up the repressed memories, Barr suffered through anxiety attacks and depression, which she’s been working out through therapy. Barr wanted to open up about her past trouble with her parents in hopes of encouraging others who suffer in silence to confront their problems and seek out help.

3 Oprah Winfrey

In the past few years, Oprah Winfrey has had a pretty public feud going with her step-mother Barbara Winfrey, the ex-wife of her father Vernon. Barbara actually lived in a home that was purchased by Winfrey back when the couple married in 2000, until Oprah publicly had Barbara evicted from the house. “I have lost everything,” Barbara exclusively told MailOnline.com. “It’s not just a house, this is my home. All my memories are here. I’m trying to keep it together but there are some days I just don’t understand how I could have made her so angry that she would kick me out on the street and think nothing about it. But that’s Oprah – she’s judge and jury.” Barbara went on to paint Oprah as a manipulative mastermind who treats her family like staff. She even crosses a line and says that Oprah’s relationship with partner Stedman Graham isn’t even real, and that they’re just together based on mutual convenience.

2 Janice Dickinson

Former model Janice Dickinson has been very public about her relationship with her estranged late father, Ray Dickinson, who she claims was a pedophile. In her autobiography No Lifeguard On Duty, Dickinson claims that she and her older sister were physically abused by her father and suffered from heavy emotional abuse at the hand of her mother, who knew about the abuse and refused to help either of the sisters. Dickinson even went on to say (via her autobiography) that she even might be directly responsible for the death of her father after she purposefully tossed out his heart medication WHILE he was in the middle of a heart attack. My question is, if she hated her father so much and he outright abused her when she was a child, why was she around him when he suffered a heart attack? Seems odd to me.

1 Jennifer Aniston

Ever since she became a super star back when Friends became a hit on NBC back in the 1990’s, Jennifer Aniston had a strained relationship with her mother, former model Nancy Dow. It didn’t help that Dow wrote and published a memoir all about her daughter back in 1999 titled From Mother and Daughter. Aniston always claimed that Dow was extremely critical of her and of everything she did. “Because she was a model, she was gorgeous, stunning,” Aniston expressed to The Hollywood Reporter. “I wasn’t. I never was. I honestly still don’t think of myself in that sort of light, which is fine.” When Dow passed away in 2016, she had cut Aniston out of her will, even though her daughter was still supporting her financially. She had only reconciled with Dow two weeks before her passing, but Dow had changed the will a year before she died. Aniston explains that she loved her mother even though she was cold to her.
