A great deal of the time, we do not see celebrities as actual human individuals. We see them as these mythical beings who are out-of-reach from the rest of society even though they are coveted like objects. Sure, they make millions of dollars, get to travel the globe, are showered with luxury gifts by designers and retail shops, but the fact that we specifically only see this proves that society believes money and fame can buy you happiness. Truth be told, IT CAN’T. Some of the celebrities on this list of “celebs who suffer more than you do” just wanted to do what they love and what they are good at, whether that be acting, singing, or some other talent, and did not realize that a lot of baggage comes with being in the spot light. In Hollywood, not everything is as glamorous as it seems, but yes as shocking as it may seem, there are celebs who are suffering!

15 Justin Bieber

This particular photo of Canadian sensation Justin Bieber went viral a couple months ago. All the guy wants to do is eat a little lunch and look what happens: People start surrounding him like he is an animal in some zoo who is about ready to perform some silly tricks. Imagine not being able to go somewhere without a plethora of people gawking at you like a monkey. You could not do simple, mundane things without an audience. While some people might think it would be fun to be that adored, clearly Bieber does not agree. He looks agitated here as he attempts to eat and ignore the circus going on just a few feet away. I would be almost worried for him if I did not find him so annoying (sorry, folks). That looks like a freaking fire hazard for anyone who happens to be in that building that mob is blocking.

14 Jennifer Lawrence

Women go through a billion times more heartache in Hollywood than men do. It’s a known fact – they have every single aspect about their looks and personality analyzed with a microscope. Jennifer Lawrence is one such actress. Sure, she appears to be down to earth and all folksy with her sense of humor and girl-next-door demeanor, but truth is, she has suffered through major social anxiety. It must be extremely difficult to have to smile and laugh in the public eye when all you want to do is retreat from the world and hide. Back in 2013 (when she took on the role of Katniss Evergreen, protagonist and all around bad-a$$ from the Hunger Games series and after she won her Oscar for Silver Linings Playbook), she revealed that she struggled with hyperactivity and had to be medicated during her childhood. She eventually used acting as a method of keeping her social anxiety under control, but the job of being one of the most famous women in the world can be taxing, especially when you have cameras following your every move.

13 Amanda Bynes

From time to time, when an actor or actress attempts to turn their career around after being a child star, the effects can be rather shaky. Most can’t make the transition from being a lovable character to a serious actor without messing up along the way. This happened to be the case for Amanda Bynes, who used to be a Nickelodeon little darling. After hitting her mid twenties, Bynes was busted for possession, got a couple DUIs, was charged with a hit-and-run, and even had to be committed to a psychiatric ward after she apparently set fire to someone’s driveway. She went out in public sporting outrageous hair styles (that are actually not so uncommon these days, but back in 2012 it was considered a tad bit “out there”) while her parents often covered for her whenever she was arrested for a DUI. Her father went on the record with People magazine and said that his daughter “doesn’t drink” despite the fact that she took a breathalyzer test. She went on to blame the cops for her destructive and dangerous behavior behind the wheel and even tweeted out to then president Obama: “Hey @BarackObama… I don’t drink. Please fire the cop who arrested me. I also don’t hit and run. The end.” Yes, tweeting at the most powerful man in the free world, telling him to personally fix your problems won’t make you seem like a whack job AT ALL.

12 Cara Delevingne

Like a great deal of individuals, model/actress Cara Delevingne suffers from the skin condition psoriasis, but unlike most people who have the same thing, Delevingne has to sport her outbreaks in the public eye. There are many different forms of psoriasis, from mild to severe, and the cause for an outbreak can range from a great deal of factors, one being stress. While Delevingne had opened up about her skin condition in the past, it became visually taxing while she was globetrotting for her film Suicide Squad about a year ago. She was sporting very painful looking red soars on her back and arms as she walked the red carpet. Delevingne has admitted that her sudden outbreaks are often caused by stress, which usually happens around the time she has to promote a film hardcore or even when she has to take on the hell known as Fashion Week. “It only happened during the Fashion Weeks, which are, of course, the worst time of year for me to be covered in scabs,” the model admitted in 2013. “Psoriasis is an auto-immune disease, and I’m sensitive.”

11 Lena Dunham

People walk a fine line when it comes to actress Lena Dunham: you either love her, or you hate her. There’s usually no grey area in between. This probably has to do with the fact that she tends to open up her mouth at the wrong times, or that people associate her very whiny Girls character Hannah with her real life persona. Love her or hate her, it’s clear that Dunham tends to suffer more than the rest of us put together. The HBO star suffers from endometriosis, a disorder where the tissue that usually lines the uterus grows on the outside of the uterus instead. The actress has been in and out of the hospital so many times and suffered from a great deal of pain. “I’ve been hurting more and more,” she explained on a podcast earlier this year. “I started antibiotics, didn’t do anything, and the pain in my back and my pelvis has become overwhelming and so I’m here to figure out if I have an ovarian cyst or some other kind of ovarian issue that’s causing the continuous pain that is draining me out of my life force.”

10 Caitlyn Jenner

Imagine trying your hardest to be a good role model, only to have critics attempt to tear you apart at every turn. The entire Kardashian clan have known to be media hogs and when it was publicly announced that Kris Jenner’s former husband Bruce Jenner was making the transition to Caitlyn Jenner, everyone’s reaction was rather split. Personally, I believe Jenner brought a light and shined it on the transgender community and has stepped up as a role model to young children who don’t need to suffer when they don’t identify with the gender they were born. While a great deal of people praise her for her bravery, not everyone sees it as such. Jenner has to deal with every single criticism and it has to take a toll on her in the long run. Sure, she’s stunningly strong, but you can only be strong for so long. Her support system is in place, but they’re dealing with their own spotlights and swimming in a vapid pool of narcissism. Caitlyn has openly talked about her surgeries and the pain she’s had to go through. It’s hard to listen to her critics who attempt to try to break her down after she takes steps forward to shine an optimistic light on the trans community. You just can’t do that to a role model who has had a positive influence on both children and adults of a particular community – it just isn’t fair.

9 Amanda Seyfried

The young Mean Girls, Mamma Mia!, and Les Miserables actress seems only at peace when she’s resting in her secluded home, far away the chaos of the real world. The actress suffers from OCD and has been on medication in order to keep the disorder at bay. “I’m on Lexapro, and I’ll never get off of it” she told Allure magazine a couple years ago. “ I’ve been on it since I was 19. I’m on the lowest dose. I don’t see the point of getting off of it.” She said that when she suffers from it, her mind goes over worst case scenarios pretty rapidly. “I had pretty bad health anxiety that came from the OCD and thought I had a tumor in my brain. I had an MRI, and the neurologist referred me to a psychiatrist. As I get older, the compulsive thoughts and fears have diminished a lot. Knowing that a lot of my fears are not reality-based helps.”

8 Jon Hamm

Sure, fans of the brilliant AMC show Mad Men remember that Jon Hamm’s character Don Draper had a massive drinking problem that would often cause his life to spin out of control. Just a couple years ago, the actor himself admitted to being an alcoholic and spent 30 days in rehab. “Life throws a lot at you sometimes and you have to deal with it as much as you can,” the actor told Australian magazine TV Week. “I’ve said in varying ways that acting can be a difficult endeavor.” Of course, Hamm has the support of his longtime girlfriend Jennifer Westfeldt, which he says helps a great deal. Many stars have suffered openly with alcoholism, most notably Amy Winehouse, who lost her life back in 2011 after her struggle with alcohol and drugs. It’s good to know that Hamm got the help he needed when he recognized he had a problem.

7 Emma Stone

Like a good deal of incredible actresses, Emma Stone dropped out of school in order to pursue her acting career. And like a great deal of incredible actresses, she happens to be an autodidact, which can present its own share of problems. When you’re a smart individual, you’re likely to suffer from more anxiety issues and even sometimes panic attacks. When she was only 15, Stone made the decision to move to Hollywood in order to pursue her acting career in order to ease her chronic problems with anxiety (how on earth being thrust into the public eye helps your issues with anxiety, I will never know). “It’s just the way I’m wired,” Stone told The Hollywood Reporter. “I think my parents saw that acting was the thing that made me fulfilled and happy.” Once the fame actually hit though, Stone was tossed back into a state of extreme panic. She eventually relocated from LA to New York in order to ease her mind a bit and wanted to be able to get lost in a crowd once again.

6 Adele

If you are a human who has any sort of good taste, you know and love all of Adele’s songs. Much like songstress Taylor Swift, Adele manages to take her heartache and turn it into gold whenever she heads to the recording studio. But unlike Swift, Adele doesn’t use it as a platform in order to boost her career. She doesn’t go through relationship after relationship, man after man, and then use her power to create tell-all songs. No. Instead, Adele looks for love and happens to get seriously screwed in the process (she’s happily married to the love of her life now). I’m not saying that Swift DOESN’T get hurt, it just seems like she uses men for her music. Most of Adele’s music has been to get over a very private breakup, but she also suffers from health issues on top of that. She’s known to physically exhaust herself in order to please fans, this includes going on tour when she’s clearly ill. She literally suffers for her art and the fans who adore her.

5 Christina Ricci

Actress Christina Ricci has suffered from numerous issues since coming into the spotlight as a child actor. Back in 2010, the government hit Ricci with a tax lien of $180,000 because she did not pay her 2008 taxes (despite getting well paid for her gigs). Money issues was not the only thing that Ricci publicly faced during her three decades of working in the Hollywood industry – she also suffered from anorexia at the tender age of 14. She was a dark and moody teenager and often took on roles that reflected that, which only ended up making her typecast. She struggled for years to break out of that mold but really couldn't the older she got. She finally had to create her own path by producing her own projects. Most recently she produced the story of F Scott Fitzgerald’s wife Zelda and starred as main character.

4 Jim Carrey

On September of 2015, actor Jim Carrey’s ex-girlfriend Cathriona White committed suicide by taking an overdose of pills. He was then hit was a wrongful death lawsuit filed by White’s estranged husband Mark Burton, who claimed that the actor attempted to cover up his role in White’s death. It was said that Carrey himself paid for White’s entire funeral (which her husband viciously objects), even thought he allegedly was the one who bought her the fatal pills himself. Carrey openly suffered after the death of his ex so the lawsuit was a low blow and a desperate act of a supposed grieving husband. Carrey has suffered from known depression and, according to all past lovers, is usually a roller coaster of emotions. Since White’s death, Carrey had attempted to disappear from the lime light and has reappeared to do a few movies (including Dumb and Dumber to).

3 Janet Jackson

Singer Janet Jackson’s entire world has always been put on display ever since she was a child, putting all her troubles under a microscope for the entire world to over-analyze. She publicly dealt with the death of her beloved brother Michael in 2008, not to mention dealing with that “little” incident during that one Super Bowl halftime show with Justin Timberlake years ago. More recently, Jackson gave birth to her first child at the age of 50 with billionaire husband Wissam Al Mana and then shortly after, split up with her husband. It was rumored that Al Mana had become too controlling during her pregnancy so she split up with him shortly after the birth of their son. For one it’s hard going through a marriage split if you’re a regular person out of the limelight, but it’s even harder when you’re a new mother and come from Pop superstar royalty.

2 Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore not only grew up right before our very eyes, she also suffered deeply throughout her childhood right before of our very eyes as well. At 12 years old, she was sent to rehab in order to kick a drug and drinking habit. By 14 she filed an emancipation from her parents. Was twice married and twice divorced by 25. Jeez, talk about going through a lot and that is only in the first half of her life! Needless to say, the actress had her fair share of troubles that she was forced to suffer through in the public eye at a very delicate age. Luckily, she was able to kick her entire past to the curb and start a newer, and much healthier, life with her husband and two children. Not saying that she no longer suffers from the ghosts of her past (we all do), but if she does, she hides it pretty well.

1 Ashley Judd

Ashley Judd was raised in one of the most well-known families in the industry. But just because you’re in a famous family doesn’t mean you can escape certain demons. Judd released a tell-all memoir a few years back that made some pretty intense claims. She suffered from depression as a child because her mother Naomi and sister Wynonna would be off traveling the globe as very successful country-music artists. Since little Ashley wasn’t a singer, she was often left with her father while she attended school. In the book, she said that she was often physically abused of a great deal of men, one of which was an unnamed family member. She also blamed her mother for exposing her to this at a very early age (from her mother parading her numerous affairs in front of her). Even though the entire family appeared to be happy on the outside, the stories of the darkness that plagued them behind the scenes is extremely traumatic.
