Celebrities absolutely need fans to survive. Sure, their fans aren’t the ones who make the choice on whether or not they get a part in a certain movie, or whether the record label wants another album out of them. However, if a celebrity has a huge fan base, the people who make those decisions are far more willing to take a risk on them because they know their fan base will help ensure some success.

That fame comes with a dark side, though. While many fans are regular people who just enjoy watching their celebrity of choice, there are certain fans who take things a little bit too far. They begin sending the celebrity gifts, they cross security boundaries in a desperate attempt to get closer to their favourite star, and they might even sneak into their home. In situations like that, when a celebrity’s safety is in danger, they often have to give the cops a call to sort the situation out. Most celebrities manage to keep things safe thanks to a security team and a secure home, but sometimes those systems fail and things happen.

Here are 15 celebrities who called the cops on their fans, for various reasons. Hey, sometimes you have to call in the pros.

15 Justin Bieber — He Does Not Care How Long You Wait

Given how absolutely insane Justin Bieber’s fans are — those Beliebers are devoted to their idol like none other — it was really only a matter of time before one crossed the line from super fan to security risk. Apparently, one of his fans ended up outside his mansion and was there for about 12 hours, just waiting for the star, before Bieber finally made the decision to call the cops. Look, we get it — you really want a glimpse of your favourite celeb. However, while it’s just devoted fandom if you show up to a meet and greet or concert hours in advance in order to ensure you get a good spot in line or a spot near the front of the stage at an open air festival, if you show up to a celebrity’s house and wait there for hours? That’s an entirely different matter, and one where the celeb will most likely get their security team involved.

14 Ariana Grande — 8 Yankee Candles Later And She Still Ain't Having It

Many celebrities have fans who end up showering them with gifts, and sometimes certain items will tickle a celeb’s fancy and they’ll post about it on social media. However, there are many gifts that aren’t wanted, particularly if a fan starts sending an endless stream of gifts in a way that seems a little obsessive. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what happened with Ariana Grande. The powerhouse pop star had a fan who sent her eight (yes, eight) Yankee candles, a mirror set, an anklet, calendars, a rock from the mountains, and finally, a giant pumpkin that weighted 42 pounds! Anyone would agree that those gifts are excessive and a little bit concerning. Grande definitely thought so, and she ended up calling the cops on her fan to ensure things didn’t escalate from gift-giving to a full-on break and enter situation, as has happened with other celebrities and their super fans.

13 Taylor Swift — Emotional Fan Showed Up At Her House Begging To 'Marry' Her

Taylor Swift is such a massive star now that she basically always has a security team nearby, whether she’s travelling and touring or simply at one of her many properties relaxing with friends. And even though it may feel silly to have a constant security detail, it can come in handy, as she discovered last year. The pop princess was at her Rhode Island mansion, having just thrown her famous 4th of July bash, when a man showed up out of the blue. He was emotional and saying he was supposed to see Swift and marry her. Obviously, her security team realized that it was definitely not in Swift’s best interests to allow the fan to see her, so they called the police who took the emotional fan away. The moral of the story? If you truly want to see a celebrity up close, just buy tickets to the darn concert. Don’t show up at their house.

12 Brad Pitt — Stalker Scenario From A Movie Scene

For many celebrities, it’s bad enough when a crazy fan approaches you when you’re solo — it’s even worse if someone approaches you when you’re with your family. All of a sudden, you don’t just have to worry about your own safety, but about the safety of the people you love the most. That’s the situation Brad Pitt faced when he was in a hotel in Sydney with his son Pax. The two were in the hotel parking garage, about to head out to the Sydney Harbour, when a man approached them. Luckily, Pitt had his bodyguards with him, who ended up tackling and subduing the man while they all waited for the police to arrive. Seriously, even if you’re just a regular person, having someone approach you in a parking garage is always a little bit nerve-wracking — if you’re a celebrity, it’s a whole different story.

11 Gwen Stefani — When You Need Acupuncture Because You Went To Your Acupuncture Appointment

Gwen Stefani has been going to a certain acupuncture clinic for quite a while now — you can see many paparazzi shots of her leaving the spot after getting some treatment on that toned physique. Unfortunately, a fan figured out her spot of choice, and reached out to the singer and fashion mogul threatening to meet her there. Obviously, a message like that is cause for concern, so Stefani was on high alert and called the police. They ended up chatting with a random guy who just was in the wrong spot, but if he had been the fan who reached out to Stefani, the police would have been able to successfully remove him and keep Stefani safe. Seriously — celebrities may be used to fans approaching them on the street, but that doesn’t mean you should stake out where they’ll be. That’s weird, and a surefire way to get the cops called on you.

10 P Diddy — Crazy Fan Breaks Into His Home And Lives Like Him For 24h

Seriously, we don’t know how many times the press needs to make this clear — if you show up at a celebrity’s home unannounced, or even worse sneak in, they’re never going to be happy to see you. They won’t admire your determination and skill at breaching their security system — they’re going to assume you’re absolutely nuts and call the cops immediately. That’s exactly what happened with Diddy. The star had a fan named Quamine Taylor who broke into his Hamptons mansion (by sneaking in through an unlocked basement door), and he ended up staying in the house for nearly an entire twenty four hours. Yes, we’re totally serious. Diddy luckily wasn’t there, but the fan basically spent the time living like he was the star — using his toothbrush, drinking his liquor, and even sleeping in his bed. Yeah, that’s not showing that you’re a fan — that’s showing that you’re a stalker.

9 Sandra Bullock — Had To Use Her Safe Room To Keep Away From Stalker Who Broke In While She Was There!

Poor Sandra. The A-List actress has a legion of fans who will go see any movie she stars in, and she has a stellar career that shows no signs of slowing down. However, that level of celebrity can come with downsides, as she learned back in 2014. Bullock had a super fan turned stalker, Joshua J. Corbett, who was obsessed with her, and ended up breaking into her home while she was there. Bullock thankfully managed to think quickly and shut herself into a safe room she smartly had installed in her home, where she called the cops and had them come out to the house to remove the threat. Particularly since she’s a single mama with children to look after, we can only imagine how terrifying that must have been. Seriously — having a great security team and security system on your home is integral if you’re a huge celebrity.

8 Chris Brown — Had To Place A Restrainer Order On Stalker Who's Now In Jail

Chris Brown has certainly made mistakes over the course of his career, but that doesn’t mean that all his fans have abandoned him — he still has many super fans, unfortunately for him in this case. A fan named Danielle Patti showed up at the star’s house not once, but twice, breaking in and attempting to get close to him. Brown obviously called the cops on the woman, and ended up actually getting a restraining order against her. He can sleep worry-free for the next little bit, as Patti is currently in jail, but we have a feeling he definitely beefed up the security on his house a little bit after that. It’s bad enough when a fan tries to approach you in a suspicious way in public, but when they break into the privacy of your home? That’s got to be majorly unsettling.

7 Leigh Anne Pinnock — Got A Harsh Reminder What It Means To Be In The Limelight

Many fans try to reach out to their favourite celebrity with some kind of gift, but others take a bit of a different approach, as this fan demonstrated. Leigh Anne Pinnock, one fourth of the British girl group Little Mix, was out having dinner with some friends when a guy came up to the table and started being really aggressive. Celebrities are fairly gracious at handling all types of fans, so Pinnock was just laughing and trying to diffuse the situation at first. However, the fan ended up slapping her in the face, and Pinnock left the restaurant in tears with her friend, upset at the situation. Her friend (likely at Pinnock’s request) called the cops on the attacker, although the guy left before law enforcement arrived. No matter what time it is, or where you’re at, it’s never okay to slap someone in the face!

6 Shia LaBeouf — Can Be Heard On 911 Call Telling Stalker 'Not To Touch Him'

Shia LaBeouf has a reputation for being a little bit strange, but even he got weirded out by a fan back in 2014. The star had a stalker, something that quite a few celebrities have had to face over the years, but he ended up calling the cops to report her after three weeks of her constantly popping up wherever he was. It’s one thing for the paparazzi to follow you everywhere — you know it’s their job, and all they want is to get a photo to sell to the tabloids — but it’s an entirely different scenario to be followed everywhere by an obsessive fan. And, it’s not as if she attempted to keep her distance and simply watch him from afar — in his call to the police, you can hear him saying “don’t touch me” to the woman who was obviously invading his personal space. Yikes!

5 Chloe Grace Moretz — Just Don't Even Think Of Bringing Her Cookies On A Skateboard

There are certain things that may seem innocuous, but could actually end up being dangerous, and this is one of them. Chloe Grace Moretz had a fan who rode up to her house on a skateboard with a box of cookies in his hands. Now, it doesn’t seem threatening — I mean, they’re just cookies. However, while it’s possible that the guy was just a sweet fan who wanted to share some baked goods with the star, it’s also possible that he may have baked them with some unsavoury ingredients. You just never want to take the risk. So, after he was asking her neighbour whether or not he had the right house, Moretz ended up calling the cops to remove the guy in question. Moral of the story? If you want to deliver a star baked goods, bring them to a meet and greet or something. They probably still won’t eat them, but you’ll at least be able to hand them over.

4 Tom Daley — A Crowd Full Of Screaming Girls At The Mall Was An Overkill

While A-List celebrities don’t tend to just hang around at movie theatres meeting their fans, many athletes and YouTube stars and authors have a specific way to reach out to their fans — the meet and greet. Meet and greets give fans an opportunity to get an autograph and a few seconds time at the front of the line with their favourite celebrity. Great idea, right? Well, most of the time — unfortunately sometimes, fans get a little too enthusiastic, a little too many fans show up, and you have a situation on your hands. That’s exactly what happened to the dreamy Olympic diver Tom Daley. Daley was at a shopping center in Kent, hosting a meet and greet for his fans and signing copies of his book, when things got out of hand. There were just way too many screaming fans, and Daley ended up having to call some cops to do crowd control.

3 Adam Saleh — A Youtuber Who's Meet & Greet Got Out Of Control

While the average person may not know who Adam Saleh is, he’s another one of those YouTube stars that command absolutely unfathomable crowds whenever they have some type of event or meet and greet. Saleh was in London hosting a meet and greet, and his fans came out in droves — to such an extent that Saleh eventually had to call the cops because they were mobbing him and he found himself unable to safely leave the meet and greet. Seriously, it’s such a double edged sword. On the one hand, YouTube stars make their money off their fans clicking their videos, so having a large and devoted fan base that will watch anything you put out, and buy any product you put your name on, is invaluable. However, it also makes it difficult when you’re hosting any type of event with face to face interaction when your fans get a little too crazy.

2 Keanu Reeves - The Matrix Still Haunts Him

This is another case where we just have to say — no matter how much you love a certain celebrity, you should never show up to their house, and you should certainly never do it with any type of suspicious package, even if you claim it’s a gift. Keanu Reeves learned this a while back when a super fan showed up at his house and put a FedEx envelope in his mailbox. Reeves obviously didn’t rush out to see what kind of gift he’d received — he got his security team to check it out, and had the LAPD at his home shortly. Apparently, the fan was a huge Matrix junkie whose envelope contained a cryptic message as well as a phone number to contact. Obviously, Reeves just let the authorities handle it and didn’t actually give that number a ring to see what was up.

1 Shannen Doherty — She Actually Cares For Her Fans' Safety

This situation is drastically different from the normal case where celebrities call the cops on their fans, because Doherty wasn’t afraid for her own safety — she was afraid for her fan’s safety. You see, a woman in New Jersey apparently told Doherty on Twitter that she’d do something drastic if the former Beverly Hills 90210 star didn’t give her a call. In situations like that, you really have no option besides calling the cops to ensure the other person stays safe and doesn’t make any crazy decisions — and that’s exactly what Doherty did. Luckily, the woman gave Doherty her address for some reason, so the star was able to tell the New Jersey police exactly where to go to check up on the fan. She ended up being just fine, but still — in situations like that, you just never want to take the risk.
