Facial hair. It can make a man look exponentially hotter than they do without it and it can also make a man look like he superglued patches of dog hair to his face. 15 Charlie Hunnam
It’s pretty obvious that there is a huge difference between the Sons of Anarchy star with a beard and without, no doubt about it. With the short hair and the scruff, Charlie Hunnam could even pass for a high school student even though he was in his late twenties in the photo. Hunnam has been capturing the hearts of men and women for years (remember him in Nicholas Nickelby?) but he’s making serious waves in Hollywood by starring in blockbusters such as Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, The Lost City of Z, and Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim. His next film is a remake of the 1973 film Papillon. Also, he’s British which means he has a very sexy English accent. Basically, Hunnam is just way hotter with the beard. That’s not even an opinion, it’s just a straight-up fact. End of discussion.

There comes a time in the life of every boy band member when it’s time to leave the band, muster up some creative integrity, ditch the boyish look, get a buzzcut, and grow some facial hair--just ask Justin Timberlake and Nick Jonas. Zayn Malik is no exception. There have long been rumors that Malik and the other One Direction members were forbidden from growing facial hair for years which makes sense. These boy bands are marketed to young pre-teens and most of them have not developed an appreciation for a well-groomed beard. However, once Malik broke free from the grips of his band, released a less than mediocre album, and got some tattoos, of course he had to grow a beard as well. Jon Snow might know nothing but Kit Harington definitely knows a thing or two about how some well-groomed scruff can practically double his hotness. We watched Harington grow from a boy to a man in Game of Thrones and now it’s hard to even imagine him without his muscular build and scruffy beard. Seriously, he has a little baby face without the scruff! It almost looks like he’s two different people. Also, like Charlie Hunnam, Harington is British which means he also has an English accent and who doesn’t love English accents? Leslie played Jon Snow’s love interest Ygrette in Game of Thrones which makes their relationship super romantic.

Speaking of hot Game of Thrones actors, Pedro Pascal is another attractive celeb who is way more handsome with the scruff than without. Though you may know him best for his portrayal of Oberyn Martell in Game of Thrones or Javier Pena in Narcos but you might not remember that he also appeared in an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer! He played Eddie, a sort-of friend to Buffy that she meets in college. However, her new friend gets turned into a vampire by the head campus vampire and Buffy has to kill him. Don’t you just hate it when that happens? It’s safe to say that Pascal’s characters have some seriously bad luck. In a Reddit AMA, Pascal revealed that his small role on Buffy was one of his first jobs that he got after he graduated college and it made his sister and her friends “very very proud.”
11 David Beckham
Many millennials pine over the fact that they are too young for David Beckham and too old for his sons which is a true tragedy because good looks run in the Beckham family. Besides the fact that he looks a million times hotter with a beard and his black and white H&M Bodywear commercials (which totally deserve an Emmy or something) the most attractive aspect of Beckham is his relationship with his wife, Victoria Beckham. The two are both strikingly gorgeous and totally in love with each other. You don’t have to be a soccer lover or a Spice Girls fan to see that those two form one attractive couple. Like his wife, he seems to get more attractive as he ages and he no longer has that clean-cut, baby face. Beckham just has a ruggedly handsome aesthetic that is totally amplified by the sexy scruff.
10 Riz Ahmed
Riz Ahmed became the newest Internet Boyfriend practically overnight after starring in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Though there are still a lot of people who get him confused with Dev Patel (seriously almost everyone confused the two at the BAFTAs this year), it’s fair to say that Ahmed has become a lot more popular in the past few months than he’s ever been before. Before his big role in Rogue One, he had some small roles in movies such as Jason Bourne and Nightcrawler. Just this year he was nominated for both Golden Globe and SAG nominations and appeared on TIME magazine’s Most Influential People of 2017 list. Not to shabby! With the beard, Ahmed goes from a baby-faced boy to a smoldering stud. However, it’s hard not to totally fall in love with him regardless of his facial hair situation.
9 Oscar Isaac
Oscar Isaac is another example of the Internet Boyfriend because he’s totally handsome in a totally unconventional way. Isaac has been in Hollywood for years and appeared in some big films such as Ridley Scott’s Body of Lies and Robin Hood, Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch, and Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive which he starred in alongside Ryan Gosling. All of his performances truly stand out from the crowd, especially his performances in the indie movies such as A Most Violent Year, Inside Llewyn Davis, and Ex Machina. However, now that he’s landed some big roles in some big films such as Star Wars: The Force Awakens and X-Men: Apocalypse, he’s blowing up in a big way. So prepare to see Isaac in a lot of movies over the next few years. Hopefully we’ll be seeing a lot more of him with a beard because, honestly, he looks way hotter with the scruff.

Donald Glover is one of those people who is just good at everything and he’s so talented, it almost seems unfair. He’s seriously got it all: he’s a hilarious comedic actor (Community), a great dramatic actor (Atlanta and The Martian), a successful TV writer (30 Rock), a popular stand-up comedian (Weirdo), and a talented musician with three amazing albums that are critically and commercially acclaimed. Oh, and he’s going to play a young Lando Calrissian in the untitled Han Solo film and he will provide the voice for Simba in Jon Favreau’s upcoming live-action remake of The Lion King. Seriously how can one person be so talented? Not only is he funny, smart, and creative, but he’s also very attractive and though he’s totally adorable without the beard, the facial hair takes him to a whole different level. With the scruff, he’s pretty much the complete package.
7 Chris Pine
Let’s be honest: it’s hard to keep all of the Chris’ of Hollywood straight. There’s Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Pratt, and Chris Pine and they are all white, blonde, and very handsome. While three of them (Hemsworth, Pratt, and Evans) are super heroes in the Marvel cinematic universe, Pine hasn’t had his chance at playing a super hero just yet but is starring in Wonder Woman, (though Wonder Woman is a part of the D.C. universe). Though he hasn’t been a super hero, he has played the iconic role of Captain James T. Kirk in J.J. Abram’s Star Trek. Unfortunately, Kirk never had a beard in Star Trek: The Original Series but we wish that he did because Pine looks mighty fine with some scruff. You may have loved the baby-faced Pine in Princess Diaries 2: A Royal Engagement, but it safe to say that now that he’s all grown up with a ruggedly handsome look, we have a newfound appreciation of him.
6 Zac Efron
Speaking of actors we had crushes on when we were kids, Zac Efron was the ultimate teenage heartthrob back in the days when he played Troy in the High School Musical trilogy. With his side-swept bangs and blue eyes, every teenager swooned when he sang "Breaking Free" with Vanessa Hudgens at the end of the first movie. Efron has since veered away from his musical days and has appeared in several successful (and not so successful) comedies such as Neighbors, Dirty Grandpa, and the upcoming summer flick Baywatch. He’s also made us swoon again in his appearance in The Lucky One, which is another poorly written and emotionally draining Nicholas Sparks sob-fest. Even if you don’t like any of his films, it’s hard to ignore the fact that he is totally hot and he looks much more grownup and rugged with the beard which is a lot different than his pretty-boy HSM aesthetic.
5 Idris Elba
Idris Elba may not be the James Bond that we have but he is the one that we deserve. Elba has been in talks to play Bond for years and we’re ready for it to just happen already? Besides, Daniel Craig has already let the world know that he hates the role so maybe it’s time for someone else to take a crack at 007. Regardless, Elba has won our hearts with his fantastic performances in Luther, Beyonce’s and Ali Larter’s obsession in Obsessed, Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, Thor, Pacific Rim, Star Trek: Beyond, and the critically acclaimed films Beasts of No Nation and Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. He’s obviously a very talented actor but he is also quite the hunk especially with a face full of scruff. Elba is one of the few actors in Hollywood who is ruggedly handsome with or without the facial hair.
4 Drake
Going from the adorable Jimmy Brooks to smoldering the hip-hop hunk he is today, Drake is the ultimate example of “started from the bottom now we’re here.” We fell in love with Drake’s adorable baby-face when he played a high schooler on Degrassi but he made us swoon when he bulked up and grew a beard. While his music generally still revolves around a girl he loves who left or did him wrong, his aesthetic went from the sensitive “nice guy” who might write you poems and profess his love to you in the rain so as to hide his tears to the kind of guy who would never let someone walk all over him, even the girl he loves. He and Rhianna might not be together anymore but we just know that he’s the kind of guy who knows how to treat his girl right.

Just try to find a picture of The Weeknd without his beard and you will be surprised how difficult it is. If you look at the photo of him without the facial hair, you will quickly see why these photos are so hard to find. The Weeknd totally needs his beard. Abel Makkonen Tesagye (aka The Weeknd) hasn’t been on the scene for too long and only gained recognition after uploading some of his songs to YouTube in 2010. After releasing Beauty Behind the Madness in 2015, he solidified himself as an incredibly talented alternative R&B artist whose music could also play on mainstream radio stations. Right after Beauty Behind the Madness, he was known as the guy with the weird hair but after he released Starboy last year, he chopped off the hair, and started dating Selena Gomez, he was no longer the guy with the weird hair.
2 Joe Manganiello
If you’ve seen Magic Mike or True Blood, you know that Sofia Vergara’s hunk of a husband is just plain hot, with or without facial hair. That is definitely not up for debate. Besides being married to Vergara, Joe Manganiello is pretty much known for being one of the hottest dudes in Hollywood. Way back in the early 2000s, he tried out for the part of Peter Parker in Spider-Man and while he didn’t get the part, he did land the role of Eugene (Flash) Thompson which was his first acting job after college. Manganiello in Spider-Man looks like a completely different person than he is today. Sure, he was definitely still handsome but he grew out of his baby-face and continues to make us swoon with all of that hunkiness and well-groomed scruff, he is definitely Magic Mike material.

We are truly blessed to have Jason Momoa as the new Aquaman because who wouldn’t want to stare at this hunk on a big screen for two hours? Another reason why Momoa is perfect for the part is that he was born in Hawaii which means he’s a good swimmer and that’s kind of Aquaman’s whole thing. Not only is the Game of Thrones actor incredibly attractive, he’s also a total family man. He’s been with Lisa Bonet since 2005 and the two have a daughter named Lola and a son named Nakoa-Wolf. Besides the sexy facial hair, he also has a very mysterious scar over his eye which he got from a bar fight when he was slashed in the face with a broken beer glass in Hollywood. The story might not be as mysterious as you may think but the scar still adds to his allure.
